JAY Solid Seating

The JAY Solid Seating line is Sunrise Medical's wheelchair seat rigidizer for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is not a skin-protection cushion. The current card covers two builds: a wood Solid Seat Insert that slides inside a JAY cushion cover, and an Adjustable Solid Seat in ABS plastic that replaces sling upholstery. The Adjustable Solid Seat table prints a 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) height, widths 10 to 22 inches, depths 10 to 20 inches, 2 lbs (0.9 kg), and a 250 lb (113 kg) rating.

Who this seating is for

JAY Solid Seating fits a person whose therapist wants a firm, level base under a properly fitted cushion. Stay here when sling upholstery is hammocking the pelvis. Pair the insert with a current JAY cushion such as the JAY Easy Cushion or the JAY Ion Cushion. A seating therapist should confirm the 250 lb rating still fits.

Insert or adjustable seat

The Solid Seat Insert is a wood base sized to standard JAY cushion widths. Extra sizes go through JAY Your Way. It does not replace the sling. It sits inside the cushion cover so the foam sits on a flat board.

The Adjustable Solid Seat is ABS plastic with a non-skid top. Each size covers a range of chair widths and depths. Hardware raises, lowers, or angles the seat up to 1.5 inches. Drop Seat hardware lowers 2.5 inches when a taller cushion or foot propulsion needs more floor access. The family spec table prints JAY Your Way as not available for this ABS seat.

A seating therapist names the insert or the adjustable seat, the chair width and depth, and whether Drop Seat hardware is required. Westin maps that to the Sunrise form. There is no drop-down on this page.

Which JAY wheelchair cushion fits

JAY Solid Seating is the rigidizer, not the cushion. Order a current seat with it. The JAY Easy Cushion has its own curved-bottom option for sling chairs. The JAY Basic Cushion is mild foam with a beveled bottom. The JAY Ion Cushion and the JAY Fusion Cushion still need a level base if the sling is hammocking.

Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario

This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help.
