Description
The Beka James is Beka Hospitec's electric tilting shower and commode chair. Savaria Patient Care lists it for North America as James. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
James is the chair with a separate electric backrest. The chassis tilts 25° and the backrest adds another 30°, so the seat can reach 55° for hygiene access. That is the figure Beka and Savaria print for this model. If you were named a basic attendant shower commode, this is a different product. If you were named James, this is the listing.
Who it is for
This chair is for a person who needs a hospital-grade shower and commode chair with powered height and tilt, when the therapist has named a Beka James. Beka marks it for mobility groups 2, 3, and 4. The JAMES user manual describes indoor showering in hospitals, nursing homes, care centres, and homes, plus short indoor transport on even floors. Stay inside the 180 kg (397 lb) rating printed on the JAMES type plate.
- Long-term care and home bathrooms that asked for James, not a fixed-tilt commode
- Hygiene work that needs the extra 30° backrest so the caregiver can reach the lower body
- People inside 180 kg (397 lb)
- Rooms that already use a Beka Nora or a Beka CARLO to seat the person onto the chair
What you get
The frame is aluminum. Four 100 mm (3.9 in) castors carry the chair. All four have brakes. Lock every brake before a transfer, a height change, or a tilt. The seat and back are soft PUR foam. Standard cushions are 495 mm (19.5 in) wide. An XL set at 545 mm (21.5 in) can be quoted. The hygiene opening locks for showering and opens for commode work. A 3D headrest moves horizontally and vertically.
The cable remote raises and lowers the seat, tilts the chassis, and tilts the backrest. The motors are self-locking, so the seat does not drop if power is lost. A red emergency stop sits on the chair. Twist it clockwise to release it before first use. Charge the lithium-ion battery about 6 hours before the first shift. The charge plug is magnetic. Do not use the chair while it is charging. The electrics are IPX4 (splash-proof) and are for indoor use only.
- Electric height, 300 mm (11.8 in) of travel
- Electric chassis tilt 25° plus electric backrest 30° (55° combined)
- Adjustable armrests, leg supports, and footrests
- Lockable hygiene opening and optional bedpan holder
- Optional Park, Clean, and two memory keys on the remote
- Optional shower-head bracket, fold-up safety armrests, Comfort individual legs, and a safety belt

Product weight is 71 kg (157 lb). Seat height is 550-850 mm (21.7-33.5 in). Length is 1155 mm (45.5 in) at the lowest upright position and 1745 mm (68.7 in) at the highest reclined position. The battery is a 25.55 V, 2.6 Ah lithium-ion pack. Charge time is about 6 hours. Duty cycle is 2 minutes of motion, then 18 minutes of rest.
Do not read a 150 kg Milo rating or a 230 kg Leon rating onto this page. Do not read a 515-820 mm seat-height line from a marketing table onto this page. The IFU numbers above are the ones we publish.
Colour and options
Use the Colour selector to pick the factory code on your quote:
- 920125000: JAMES Barolo
- 920125020: JAMES Azur
This listing is quote-only. The chair, cable remote, magnetic charger, PUR cushions, 3D headrest, and lockable hygiene opening come with the colour you pick. A sling is not part of this chair. A bedpan, XL cushions, Comfort legs, fold-up armrests, memory keys, shower-head bracket, and safety belt are quoted with the room when you need them.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control, the tilt, and the emergency stop before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
This shower chair is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Which lifts this chair works with
Beka prints that James is compatible with NORA and CARLO. The JAMES manual shows how to seat a person from a NORA stand-up aid and from a CARLO floor lift: lower the chair, set the seat level, raise the footrests, lock all four brakes, then bring the lift in. Fold the armrests back so the sling can come off once the person is sitting.
We already sell those lifts. Use the Beka Nora when the person can stand for a short time with support. Use the Beka Nora Pro when you were named the Pro cushion. Use the Beka CARLO Classic when the person needs a full-body loop-sling transfer. The sling belongs to the lift, not to this chair. Start at sit-to-stand slings for Nora, or full-body slings and toileting slings for CARLO.
Measure the bathroom door and the shower threshold with us before you order. The chair is for even indoor floors. Do not push it over slopes or raised sills.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a German parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Beka manufacturer warranty
Beka and Savaria do not print a year split on the current JAMES cards we used. Ask us for the Beka terms that ship with your serial number. Authorized Beka service keeps that warranty in force. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the tilt range of the James shower chair?
The chassis tilts 25°. The backrest adds 30°. Together the seat can reach 55°. Beka and Savaria print that combined figure for James. Raise the backrest first when you return the person to a sitting position.
What is the safe working load?
The JAMES user manual and type plate for article 920125000 print 180 kg (397 lb). Stay inside that number for the person plus anything on the seat.
How is James different from a standard shower commode?
James has powered height, a powered chassis tilt, and a separate powered backrest. A standard attendant commode is usually a fixed seat on a steel or aluminum frame. If you only need a simple over-toilet chair, ask us for that class instead.
Which colour should I pick?
Barolo is 920125000. Azur is 920125020. The chair is the same. Pick the cushion colour the room wants. XL cushions, Comfort legs, and fold-up armrests are quoted on top of that colour.
Does James work with the Beka lifts we already sell?
Yes. Beka names NORA and CARLO. We sell the Nora, the Nora Pro, and the CARLO Classic. Lock all four chair brakes before the lift comes in.
What is included with the chair?
You get the James chair in the colour you pick, the cable remote, the magnetic charger, PUR seat and back, the 3D headrest, and the lockable hygiene opening. A sling, a bedpan, and XL cushions are sold separately.
Can I use James as a commode?
Yes. The seat has a lockable hygiene opening. A bedpan holder (920120030) is an option. We will confirm that kit on the quote if you need over-toilet or bedpan use.
Do the castors lock?
Yes. There are four 100 mm (3.9 in) castors and all four have brakes. The manual says to lock all four before a transfer or a height change.
How do I charge James?
Use the magnetic plug on the control box and the charger that ships with the chair. First charge is about 6 hours. Keep the emergency stop released while charging. Do not shower a person in the chair while the cable is connected.
How fast can a purchased James be set up in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased chairs across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased setup.
What is the warranty on the James shower chair?
Ask us for the Beka terms that ship with your serial number. Authorized Beka service keeps that warranty in force. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work. Details are on our service and repairs page.
