This page is the head and trunk family. The Geo-Matt Pillow and Head Support spread load around the cranium. The 30 degree and 45 degree body wedges hold the torso for turning and sacral offload. Who these positioners are for

These foams are for a person who needs the head or trunk held in a planned position in bed: side-lying at 30 degrees, a long torso wedge, a cranial cutout that floats the ear or the occiput, or a roll at the neck or the popliteal space. Families, wound-care nurses, and therapists usually call us when the turning plan names a Span+Aids head support, Geo-Matt pillow, or body wedge, not a wheelchair seat and not a heel boot.

Construction and how it works

Each code is a shaped foam block. There is no pump. The Geo-Matt Pillow and the Geo-Matt 30 degree Body Wedge use Span's segmented cell surface so the foam follows the person instead of acting as one hard plane. The Head Support has a cutout that floats the ear in side-lying or the back of the head in supine. The O.R. Head Positioner is that same shape with a slot for tubes during a face-down procedure.

The Geo-Matt Pillow ships with a Soft Skin cover. The 30 degree body wedge can be ordered bare and vacuum packed, with fire-retardant Soft Skin, or with a vinyl cover. The 24 inch 45 degree wedge is long enough for the full torso. Some codes ship vacuum packed to save cupboard space. The line conforms to California Technical Bulletin 117.

These figures are for the Head and Body codes on this page. They are not Extremities limb elevators, not Heel Manager, and not the Geo-Matt Wedge wheelchair seat. The specification tab holds the stored values.

The Geo-Matt 30 degree Body Wedge is 7 3/8 by 11-5/8 by 20 inches. The standard 45 degree body wedge is 9 by 10-1/2 by 24 inches. The economy 45 degree wedge is 8 by 9-1/2 by 21 inches. Positioning rolls are 5 inches across and 12 or 17 inches long. Lateral wedges are 16 by 18 by 7.5 inches or 18 by 8 by 8 inches. Span does not publish a weight rating or a year-count warranty for this family. Ask us for the current term on the code you pick.

Which beds these positioners fit

Span writes these foams for the head and trunk in bed. Span does not name a bed brand or a deck width. They sit on a standard hospital or long-term care sleep surface. Tell us the mattress width and the turning plan and we will lock the matching codes.

The 30 degree Geo-Matt Body Wedge is also written to support an arm or a leg in side-lying, or to sit at the foot of the bed so the person does not slide when the deck is gatched. It is not the Geo-Matt Wedge wheelchair seat. If the seating plan named that 4 to 2 inch seat, ask us for that listing.

This page is the head and trunk. Extremities is the arm and leg set: Foot Drop Stop, Cradle Boot, limb elevators, and similar limb shapes. Ask us for Extremities if the plan names a foot, ankle, or arm elevator.

How is this different from Heel Manager?

Heel Manager is Span's dedicated heel-offload boot. These Head and Body foams do not float the heel. Ask us for Heel Manager when the wound plan is the heel.

How is this different from Surgical and Post-Op?

Surgical and Post-Op is the operating-room kit: abduction pillows, open-heart leg sets, laminectomy cradles, and the O.R. Table Pillow. The slotted O.R. Head Positioner on this page is the Head Support with a tube slot. Ask us for the surgical listing if the plan names a kit or an abduction pillow.

Is the Geo-Matt 30 degree Body Wedge the same as the Geo-Matt Wedge cushion?

No. The 30 degree Body Wedge is a 7 3/8 by 11-5/8 by 20 inch trunk positioner for the bed. The Geo-Matt Wedge cushion is a 4 to 2 inch wheelchair seat in 16 to 20 inch widths. They do not share part numbers. Pick this card when the plan is the bed wedge.

What sizes and codes can I get?

Fourteen Head and Body codes, from the Geo-Matt Pillow (50960-200) through the 18 by 8 by 8 inch lateral wedge (SP265-000). The default is 50960-200. Manufacturer case packs travel with each code.

Does this family need a pump?

No. Every code on this page is non-powered foam. There is no pump to plug in.

Which bed does it fit?

Span does not name a bed model. The foams sit on a hospital or long-term care mattress. Tell us the deck width and the turning angle and we will match the wedge or the pillow.

What is Soft Skin?

It is Span's protective cover on the Geo-Matt Pillow (50960-200) and on the fire-retardant 30 degree body wedge (50960-301). The vinyl-cover 30 degree code is 50960-300-96. Head Supports, rolls, and the 45 degree wedges are ordered as foam unless we add a cover on the quote.

How is the O.R. Head Positioner different from Head Support?

Both float the ear or the occiput. The O.R. Head Positioner (SP124-000) adds a slot so tubes can pass during a face-down procedure. Head Support is the closed cutout in standard, economy, or pediatric density.

Can I use the 45 degree wedge on a 90 degree face?

Span writes the 45 degree body wedge for full-torso support and notes that both 45 degree and 90 degree angles are available. The orderable codes are 50630-507 (24 inch standard) and 50630-307 (21 inch economy). Ask us if the turning plan needs a different torso angle.

What is included?

The quote is the positioner in the code you pick, in the manufacturer case pack. The default is the Geo-Matt Pillow with Soft Skin (50960-200). The bed, the mattress, and any cover that is not already on that code are sold separately. Westin Healthcare delivers across Brampton and the GTA.
