The problem the XC solves: sinking and bottoming out

A standard mattress is the wrong tool for a sleeper past its weight rating, and it fails in two measurable ways. First, the surface sinks: a softer standard surface lets a heavier sleeper sink in, and sinking is exactly what makes rolling over, repositioning, and getting out of bed hard work. Second, the foam bottoms out: the sleeper presses through the comfort layer onto the base, which collapses the comfort and loads the pressure points. The XC is built against both failures.

Harmony's own answer is a deliberately firm, responsive surface. The CoolGel Flex High Capacity top layer holds the sleeper up instead of letting them sink in, which is what makes turning over and transferring out of bed easier, and it carries heat away while it does it. Underneath, the 8 inch High Capacity base is the dense foundation that stops the bottoming out.

The other problem the XC solves is the room. Most 600 lb mattresses sold in Canada are bariatric hospital products: 42 to 48 inch widths on institutional beds. The XC puts the 600 lb rating into ordinary mattress sizes that fit ordinary bedrooms and standard sheets, on a bed that looks like furniture. That is the gap Harmony built the line to bridge.

Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a sleeper whose weight is past the 350 lb rating of the standard Harmony Relax, on a Harmony bed in the Queen width. Queen is the two-sleeper width on the Harmony Hi-Low, or a roomy single surface. At 59 inches wide the bedroom needs the same clearance a residential queen bed needs.

The capacity has to match at both levels: the mattress surface at 600 lbs, and the bed underneath it. Harmony positions the XC against the 880 lb capacity of the Hi-Low, which is the pairing Westin sells. Construction and how it works

Harmony builds the Relax XC in two layers, 10 inches in total:

• Top layer: 2 inches of CoolGel Flex High Capacity foam, the deliberately firm, cooling surface of the line
• Base layer: an 8 inch High Capacity foam core that carries the 600 lb rating

The cover removes and washes, which Harmony lists on the XC's own page and not on the standard Relax: a mattress built for higher weights is a mattress that needs washing more often, and the XC's cover comes off for exactly that. The line is optimized to pair with the 880 lb capacity Harmony Hi-Low bed: the mattress and the base are built as one capacity system, and the warranty on the XC is 2 years.

How the XC differs from the standard Harmony Relax

How much weight does the mattress hold?

Harmony rates the XC sleep surface at 600 lbs. The Harmony Hi-Low bed underneath lists an 880 lb lift capacity that includes the mattress and the people on the bed, and Harmony builds the XC to pair with that bed.

Why is the mattress rated 600 lbs but the bed 880 lbs?

They measure different things. The 600 lb rating is the sleep surface: what the mattress itself is built to carry. The Hi-Low's 880 lb figure is a lift capacity for the whole system, mattress included, plus the sleepers. Matching the two is why Harmony built the XC for that bed.

Why is the warranty 2 years instead of the Relax's 10?

Because Harmony warrants the high-capacity build on its own terms. Denser foam carrying higher loads is warrantied as a working surface, not as a decade-long consumer mattress. We state it plainly because a buyer comparing lines should see it plainly; in exchange the XC carries 250 lbs more capacity and the washable cover.

Can the cover be washed?

Yes. The XC's cover is removable and washable, which Harmony lists on the XC's own page. The standard Relax does not publish a washable cover, so this is an XC-only care feature.
