Description

The Handicare SlingBarWrap for SlingBar S/M/L is Handicare's soft protection for the middle of a two-point sling bar, manufacturer code 70200009. Handicare's own description of what it does is direct: it protects the patient's head in the event of impact with the mid-section of the sling bar. It fastens with Velcro, comes off for cleaning, and fits all versions of SlingBar S, M and L. Westin Healthcare ships it across Canada and delivers across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Order it as 70200009. Handicare makes a second wrap for a different bar: SlingBarWrap MiniLift, code 70200012, for the bar of MiniLift160 and MiniLift200. The two are not interchangeable. If you have a MiniLift, tell us and we will quote the other code.

What it does

The mid-section of a two-point sling bar is the part directly above the user, where the bar meets the link from the lift arm. For most people in most slings it is nowhere near them. For some it is close enough to matter.

Handicare names the two situations. The first is a user in a sling that holds an upright seated posture, which brings the head higher up into the space under the bar. The second is a user who has a tendency to tilt forward, whose head can come towards the bar during the lift rather than away from it. In both cases a bare aluminium bar is a hard surface in the wrong place, and this is the part that softens it.

  • Users with uncontrolled movements, which is how Handicare's catalogue describes the need
  • Users in upright-posture slings, where the head sits closer to the bar
  • Users who tilt forward during a lift

It is a soft protection and not a load-bearing part, so it carries no rating of its own and does not change the rating of anything else. The SlingBar it fits is rated 300 kg (660 lb) in every width.

Fitting it

Two steps, no tools. Handicare's instruction is to place the SlingBarWrap around the mid-section of the slingbar, where an open section in the wrap allows connection of the link from the lift arm, and then to secure it by joining the Velcro strips. Because of that opening, the wrap goes on without taking the bar off the lift.

Which bars it fits

It fits all versions of SlingBar S, SlingBar M and SlingBar L, which is Handicare's own statement and the reason the pricelist description reads for Sling bar S/M/L. Those are the SlingBar S at 35 cm, the SlingBar M at 45 cm and the SlingBar L at 60 cm.

It does not fit a MiniLift bar. Handicare's MiniLift datasheets list a separate part for that: SlingBarWrap MiniLift, code 70200012, described as soft, wipeable protection for the bar of MiniLift160 and MiniLift200. Our MiniLifts are the MiniLift160EE and the MiniLift200. If that is what you have, call us on (905) 451-7743 and we will quote the right code rather than sell you a part that will not fit.

Handicare does not publish a material, a dimension or a washing temperature for this wrap in its instructions for use; it asks you to read the product label for the care instructions. None of those figures is claimed here. What is published is what it does, what it fits, how it attaches and the two care rules quoted above. Direct Healthcare Group's own product listing describes the wrap as wipeable. If you need a laundry specification for a facility protocol, ask us and we will request it from the manufacturer.

Looking after it

The wrap comes off for cleaning, and Handicare's care instruction is to read the product label. Two rules are printed in the manual itself: do not use rinsing agent, and avoid tumble-drying to prolong product life.

Handicare also asks for a visual and mechanical inspection after every laundering: check that seams and material are free from damage, check that the fabric is not worn or faded, and discard the product if there are signs of wear. That is a short check and it is worth building into the laundry return rather than leaving to an annual service.

Related sling bar parts

The bars this wrap fits are the SlingBar S, SlingBar M and SlingBar L. To open a sling out further there are the SlingBarSpreader M side bars, supplied in pairs. For horizontal lifting the bar changes entirely to the StretcherBar.

Other spare parts and lift hardware sit on the lift parts shelf, and every lift we stock is on the patient lifts hub.

Handicare inspection and warranty position

Handicare asks for a visual and mechanical inspection of this product regularly and after every laundering: check that seams and material are free from damage, check that the fabric is not worn or faded, apply load and check that clasps and handles withstand heavy load, and discard the product if there are signs of wear.

No warranty year count is printed in the instructions for use. Ask us for the terms that ship with your order and we will handle a claim with you.

Handicare's broader instruction applies here too: always read the manuals for all assistive devices used during a transfer, keep them where the people using the product can reach them, and never leave the user unattended during a transfer.

Frequently asked questions

What is it actually for?

Protecting the user's head. Handicare's instructions for use say it plainly: the SlingBarWrap is an accessory that is placed around the slingbar, and it protects the patient's head in the event of impact with the mid-section of the slingbar. The mid-section is the part directly above the user, where the bar meets the link from the lift arm.

Who needs one?

Handicare names two groups: users who use slings that enable an upright seated posture, and users who have a tendency to tilt forward. In both cases the head can come up towards the middle of the bar during a lift. Facilities also fit them as a matter of course for users with uncontrolled movements, which is how the manufacturer's catalogue describes the need.

Which sling bars does it fit?

All versions of SlingBar S, SlingBar M and SlingBar L. That is the manufacturer's own statement and it is why the pricelist description reads "for Sling bar S/M/L".

Does it fit a MiniLift?

No, and this matters. The MiniLift takes a different wrap: SlingBarWrap MiniLift, code 70200012, which Handicare describes as soft, wipeable protection for the bar of MiniLift160 and MiniLift200. Ordering this one for a MiniLift would give you a part that does not fit the bar. If you have a MiniLift, tell us and we will quote 70200012 instead.

How does it attach?

Handicare's fitting instruction is two steps: place the SlingBarWrap around the mid-section of the slingbar, where the open section allows connection of the link from the lift arm, then secure it by joining the Velcro strips. No tools.

Does it get in the way of the lift link?

No. The wrap is made with an open section precisely so the link from the lift arm passes through it. That is why it can be fitted without taking the bar off the lift.

Can I wash it?

It comes off for cleaning, and Handicare asks you to read the product label for the care instructions. Two of Handicare's own instructions are printed in the manual: do not use rinsing agent, and avoid tumble-drying to prolong product life.

What do I check after washing?

Handicare asks for a visual and mechanical inspection after every laundering: check that seams and material are free from damage, check that the fabric is not worn or faded, and discard the product if there are signs of wear.

Does it change the weight rating of the bar?

No. It is a soft protection, not a load-bearing part, and it carries no rating of its own. The SlingBar it fits is rated 300 kg (660 lb) in every width. Remember that the lowest rating in the assembly of lift, bar and sling sets the rating of the whole system.

Should I buy one per bar or one per user?

One per bar is the practical answer, because it stays on the bar. A facility that launders them on a cycle usually wants a spare so a bar is never in service without one. Handicare supplies them singly.
