Description
The Handicare H3 is a bariatric mobile shower and commode chair rated 750 lb (340 kg). It is the highest-capacity chair in the Handicare H series, and the highest-capacity bathing product Westin Healthcare lists. Westin quotes it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Handicare is part of the Savaria family. The H series runs four chairs, and the two things that separate them are capacity and tilt. Stay on this page when the prescription names H3 and the person needs a rating above what the standard-capacity chairs offer.
Who it is for
This chair exists for one reason: rated capacity. At 750 lb (340 kg) it carries 250 lb more than any other chair in the series, and it does the shower and the toileting session in the same seat so the person is not transferred twice. The seat does not tilt, so the person needs enough trunk control to hold an upright position for the length of the session.
- Households and care rooms that asked for the Handicare H3 by name
- People who need a rated capacity above 500 lb, which is the ceiling of every other chair in this series
- People who can sit upright through a shower or a toileting session with a caregiver assisting
- Rooms where one chair has to cover both jobs, rather than a bariatric shower chair plus a separate bariatric commode
If the person cannot hold an upright position, the H3T is the bariatric chair that tilts, and it is rated 500 lb rather than 750 lb. That trade is set out below.
Choosing between the four H series chairs
The series gives you two decisions: how much capacity you need, and whether you need tilt. They interact, because in this series the tilting chair is always rated below the fixed chair it is named after.
- H2 is the fixed-seat chair at 500 lb (227 kg).
- H2T adds tilt and is rated 350 lb (159 kg).
- H3 is the bariatric fixed-seat chair at 750 lb (340 kg). This page.
- H3T is the bariatric tilt chair at 500 lb (227 kg).
The consequence for a bariatric order is worth reading twice: adding tilt to the bariatric chair costs 250 lb of rated capacity, taking you from 750 lb on this chair down to 500 lb on the H3T. If the person is above 500 lb, this chair is the only one in the series that covers them, and tilt is not available at that weight. Call us with the assessment and we will confirm it against the person's weight before you order.
If toileting is not part of the picture, our Drive bariatric shower chair with cross frame brace is a shower-only bariatric option. If the capacity requirement is lower than it first appears, the Ezee Life 18 inch tilt rehab shower commode is a published lighter alternative. More seated bathing options sit on the bathroom safety page and the commodes page.
Handicare H3 specifications
The figures below are for the H3 and no other chair in the series. The rated capacity is 750 lb (340 kg). Stay inside that number for the person plus anything they are wearing or carrying. Do not read the 500 lb H2 or H3T ratings, or the 350 lb H2T rating, onto this page.

Seat width between the arms is confirmed against your order rather than listed here, because the reachable sources do not agree on a single figure. On a bariatric chair the seat width matters as much as the capacity, so call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will send you the current figure before you commit. Send us the bathroom door width and the space beside the toilet at the same time and we will check the fit with you, because a chair at this rating is wider than a standard commode chair and doorways are where bariatric orders usually go wrong.
Height adjustable castors
Height adjustable castors are available for this chair under order code HRZTAC. Handicare lists them for the H2 and H3 models, so this chair is named directly. They let you set the seat height so the chair clears the toilet rim it has to roll over, which matters when the bathroom has a comfort-height or a wall-hung toilet.
They are ordered separately and are not assumed in every carton. Tell us the toilet height when you ask for a quote and we will tell you whether you need them.
Funding help for bathroom safety equipment in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund bathroom safety equipment, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada's Home and Vehicle Modification Program, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), extended health plans, and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, check the brakes, and walk you through the chair in the room it will live in before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a shower and commode chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our rentals hub; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
This chair is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If it is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department, and our technicians come to the home or workplace. A chair working near the top of its rating earns a closer eye on the castors and the brakes, so book it in as soon as something feels different.
Handicare manufacturer warranty
The frame is warranted for 5 years. Unauthorized changes and non-Handicare parts can void a claim. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What weight can the Handicare H3 hold?
750 lb (340 kg). It is the highest rating in the H series and the highest of any bathing product we list. Stay inside that figure for the person plus anything they wear or carry.
Is the H3 a shower chair or a commode chair?
Both. It is built to do the shower and the toileting session in one chair, so the person is not transferred twice. Ask us whether a pail and splash guard should be added to your order.
What is the difference between the H3 and the H2?
Capacity. The H3 is the bariatric chair at 750 lb (340 kg) and the H2 is the standard chair at 500 lb (227 kg). Neither one tilts. If the person is inside 500 lb and does not need the extra frame, the H2 covers the same job.
Is there a bariatric chair in this series that tilts?
Yes, the H3T, and there is a trade to understand. Adding tilt drops the rating from 750 lb on this chair to 500 lb on the H3T. If the person is above 500 lb, this fixed-seat chair is the only one in the series that covers them.
Can I add height adjustable castors?
Yes. Height adjustable castors are available under order code HRZTAC, which Handicare lists for the H2 and H3 models, so this chair is named directly. Tell us the height of the toilet the chair has to clear and we will confirm whether you need them.
How wide is the seat between the arms?
Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will send you the current figure before you order. On a bariatric chair this is worth settling first, along with the bathroom door width, because doorway clearance is where bariatric orders most often come unstuck.
Does ADP cover a bariatric commode chair in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not fund bathroom safety equipment. Other routes may help, including March of Dimes Canada's Home and Vehicle Modification Program, Veterans Affairs Canada, extended health plans, and community programs. Our funding page sets out the options, and our staff will point you to the right one.
How fast can an H3 be set up in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased chairs across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service rather than to a purchased setup.
