Description

The Handicare FGA-700 is a 700 lb patient lift: Handicare's heavy-duty aluminum full-body floor lift. Savaria Patient Care lists it for North America under the same FGA-700 model name. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care settings in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Handicare prints a 700 lb (318 kg) safe working load on the specification table.

The boom and the base are both powered. The standard carry bar is a four-point double bar with spring-loaded clips and a 360-degree turn. Support bars on the mast are for gait and walking practice, then rotate out of the way for a regular transfer. This is not a foldable homecare lift and not a sit-to-stand lift. If 350 lb and a compact fold are enough, see the Handicare Carina 350. If the person can still stand with help, see the Handicare MiniLift. If you want a foldable 400 lb SPAN lift, see the SPAN America F400.

Who it is for

This lift is for a person who needs a full-body sling transfer inside 700 lb, when a lighter Handicare or SPAN floor lift is not enough. Handicare describes it as a lifting aid used by health-care professionals to transfer clients. The brochure also names gait and ambulation training after illness or injury. The lifting range lets a caregiver pick a person up from the floor.

  • Home, long-term care, or rehab rooms that need 700 lb on a mobile floor lift
  • Transfers from bed, chair, commode, or the floor, with a Handicare sling on the four-point bar
  • Gait or walking practice using the support bars, then a regular transfer with those bars rotated away

Handicare says this mobile lift is not a transport device for corridors or long moves. Plan each transfer in the same room or area. A risk assessment of the caregiver and the client comes first. We will not promise that one person is enough.

How it lifts

You get the FGA-700 in the model you pick, the four-point carry bar, the electric hand control, and the integrated charger. A sling is sold separately. An optional wall-mount charger is quoted when the room needs it.

The caregiver opens the powered base around the bed, chair, or commode, attaches a Handicare sling to the carry-bar hooks, and raises the boom from the hand control. The mast can be assembled in three height positions, two inches apart, so the lowest and highest reach can be set for that room. The control box stores lift-usage data for reporting. Rear casters lock.

Safety on the Handicare manual: an emergency stop on the control box, electrical emergency raise and lower from the control box, and a mechanical emergency lowering handle. After the mechanical handle is used, a qualified technician must reset the lift before anyone uses it again. An audible alarm sounds if the load is too great, and lifting stops.

Handicare FGA-700 specifications

These figures are for the Handicare FGA-700. They come from Savaria's live card, brochure HC-BRO-0053, the FGA-700 Dimensions sheet, and owner's manual 753114 Rev E. The specification tab holds the stored values. Use Model to pick which row applies.

Both models: 700 lb (318 kg) safe working load, aluminum frame, 59 in (1500 mm) overall length, reach 17.8 to 18.9 in, max reach 27.2 in, lowest-mast lift range 21.3 to 72.5 in, 24 VDC lift motor, 24 VDC (2 x 12 V) 2.9 Ah sealed lead-acid battery, integrated charger (100-240 VAC in, 24 VDC 0.65 A out), electric hand control. Rated performance is 30 lifts at 700 lb or 60 lifts at 350 lb on a charge. Duty cycle is 10 percent use and 90 percent rest. Service life is 8 years. The manual conforms to EN ISO 10535.

Standard Base (280400 / 280401): 161 lb (73 kg), inner base 25.2 to 41.9 in, outer base 30.1 to 46.8 in, lifting height 25.2 to 76.4 in, floor to top of legs 6.1 in, floor to bottom of legs 3.3 in, dual-wheel casters 4 in front and 5 in rear, turning radius 62.8 in.

Low Base (280402 / 280403): 141 lb (64 kg), inner base 25.2 to 41.2 in, outer base 30.1 to 46.1 in, lifting height 23.2 to 74.5 in, floor to top of legs 4.1 in, floor to bottom of legs 1.4 in, dual-wheel casters 3 in front and 4 in rear, turning radius 63.1 in.

Model

Use Model to pick the factory code. This is a quote. There is no extra on the QRS or low-base rows.

  • Standard Base (280400) is the FGA-700 with the standard-height legs and the four-point carry bar.
  • Standard Base with Handicare QRS (280401) is the same standard base with the Handicare QRS carry bar named on the models table.
  • Low Base (280402) is the FGA-700LB. The legs sit lower so they can pass under a lower bed.
  • Low Base with Handicare QRS (280403) is the low-base lift with the Handicare QRS carry bar.

Slings and carry bar

The standard bar is a four-point double carry bar with spring-loaded clips and a 360-degree turn that clears the mast and boom. Handicare's transfer steps put the sling straps on the hooks of that bar. Check both sides before you raise. QRS models use the Handicare QRS carry bar listed for that code. The manual also shows a two-point QRS bar as an attachable option.

Use Handicare slings approved for this lift, and stay inside 700 lb on both the lift and the sling. The sling is sold separately. Start with our full-body slings or universal slings. Toileting and divided-leg styles are in toileting slings and divided-leg slings. We will confirm the Handicare sling on the quote. We will not claim every loop sling on the market.

This is not a sit-to-stand bar. A ThoraxSling belongs on the Handicare MiniLift, not on the FGA-700.

Which patient lift this is

Pick the FGA-700 when the person needs a 700 lb full-body floor lift with a powered base. It does not fold. Stay with a sibling when that is the better fit:

  • Handicare Carina 350: foldable Handicare full-body lift at 350 lb, two-point SlingBar M, compact for a closet or a car.
  • Handicare MiniLift: powered sit-to-stand lift with a ThoraxSling. The person has to take part. It is not a passive hoist.
  • SPAN America F400: SPAN F-series foldable full-body lift at 400 lb with a six-point bar. Use it when 400 lb and a fold are enough.
  • Drive bariatric patient lift: Drive's 600 lb floor lift when a Drive sling and cradle are what the therapist named.

Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund patient lifts, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: the March of Dimes Canada Home and Vehicle Modification Program for ceiling lift installations, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), extended health plans, and community programs, and a patient lift may qualify as a medical expense on a Canadian tax return when prescribed. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this lift across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control, the powered base, the emergency stop, and the mechanical lowering handle before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our patient lift rental service; purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Floor patient lifts are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the lift is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?

Yes. If you only need a lift for a recovery, or you want to live with a floor lift before you buy, rent first. See current packages and rates on patient lift rentals in Brampton.

Rental packages include an electric floor lift and a sling. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term on the rentals page is one week.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules. Ask us whether a 700 lb floor lift is on the rental fleet for your dates. The rental unit may be a different model.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Handicare manufacturer warranty

Handicare's FGA-700 owner's manual guarantees new equipment against failure for 1 year from the date of installation or 18 months from the date of manufacture, whichever is shorter. Batteries are covered for 90 days from original purchase. Unauthorized service voids that warranty. Water on the lift is not covered. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does ADP cover patient lifts in Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Other funding routes may still help, depending on the person and the assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.

What is the safe working load of the FGA-700?

Handicare prints 700 lb (318 kg) on the FGA-700. Stay inside that number for the person plus anything in the sling. The sling has its own rating. Use the lower of the two.

How is the FGA-700 different from the Carina 350?

Both are Handicare full-body floor lifts. The Carina 350 folds, is rated 350 lb, and ships with a two-point SlingBar M. The FGA-700 is a 700 lb aluminum lift that does not fold, with a powered base and a four-point double carry bar. Choose the Carina when 350 lb and a compact fold are enough.

How is the FGA-700 different from the MiniLift?

The MiniLift is a sit-to-stand lift used with a ThoraxSling. The person has to take part in standing. The FGA-700 is a passive full-body hoist. If the person cannot stand with help, stay on the FGA-700 or another full-body lift.

Is the FGA-700 now a Savaria lift?

Savaria Patient Care lists the FGA-700 for North America. The model name is still FGA-700, and the factory codes are still 280400 to 280403. Handicare remains the heritage name on the brochure and the owner manual. We sell it as the Handicare FGA-700.

What sling fits the FGA-700?

A Handicare sling whose straps seat on this four-point (or QRS) carry bar, rated at or above the person's weight and not above 700 lb. We will confirm the sling on the quote. Sit-to-stand vests belong on the MiniLift.

Does a sling come with the lift?

No. Handicare ships the FGA-700 with the carry bar, hand control, and integrated charger. The sling is sold separately.

What do Standard Base and Low Base mean?

Standard Base (280400) has 6.1 in to the top of the legs and 4 in / 5 in casters. Low Base (280402) drops that clearance to 4.1 in to the top of the legs and uses 3 in / 4 in casters so the legs can pass under a lower bed. Both are 700 lb. Ask us if you are unsure which bed you have.

Can the FGA-700 lift someone from the floor?

Yes. Savaria and Handicare both state that the FGA-700 lifting range allows a client to be lifted from the floor. We will still confirm the sling and the room layout before the first transfer.

Can one caregiver operate the FGA-700?

Handicare requires a trained operator and a risk assessment of the caregiver and the client. We follow that note. We will not promise that one person is enough.

Can I rent a patient lift before buying?

Yes. See current packages and rates on the patient lift rentals page. Ask us whether a 700 lb unit is on the rental fleet for your dates. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program.

What is the warranty on the FGA-700?

Handicare prints 1 year from installation or 18 months from manufacture, whichever is shorter, and 90 days on the batteries. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.
