Description
The Golden Companion 4-wheel is Golden's full-size 4-wheel mobility scooter for all-day indoor and outdoor use. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets the GC440 up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Golden rates it at 400 lbs (181 kg), 5 mph (8.0 km/h), and 19 miles (30.6 km) on two U1 batteries. The turning radius is 56 inches (142 cm). Assembled weight is 222 lbs (101 kg). The heaviest printed piece is 67.5 lbs (30.6 kg).
Who this scooter is for
This scooter is for a person who wants a 4-wheel mobility scooter with a quilted high-back seat, stays at or under 400 lbs, and prefers four wheels on pavement. Families usually call us when the 3-wheel GC340 feels light at the front, or when they want the 2024 digital dash and front and rear suspension on a 4-wheel deck.
If you want a tighter turn on three wheels, start with the Companion GC340. If you need 500 lbs, see the Companion HD or the Avenger. The GC440 is not a folding travel scooter.
- 400 lb (181 kg) rating and a 56 inch (142 cm) turn
- Two U1 batteries, 19 miles (30.6 km); optional 50 AH for longer range
- 10.75 inch solid tires on all four corners and full suspension
Range, speed, and batteries
Golden's current Companion 4-wheel sell sheet rates the GC440 at 19 miles (30.6 km) on two U1 batteries. An optional 50 AH pair is listed for longer range; Golden does not print a mile figure for that upgrade on the 2024 sheet. Top speed is 5 mph (8.0 km/h). Heavier riders, hills, and cold weather shorten those figures. The charger is a 3.5 amp Super Charger, off-board. Golden's Companion manual asks for 6 to 8 hours after daily use and 12 hours on a new pair.
A 90 amp Dynamic R-Series controller and rear-wheel drive move the scooter. Freewheel mode lets a helper push it. USB on the tiller charges a phone. The digital dash shows remaining battery as a percent.
Portability and transport
The Companion GC440 disassembles. Golden's Canada brochure lists a 67.5 lb front half, a 51 lb rear half, and a 29 lb seat. Assembled weight is 222 lbs (101 kg). Width is 24.5 inches (62 cm). It does not fold. The 67.5 lb front half is a two-person lift for many households.
The two U1 batteries are sealed lead-acid. Golden's sheet marks them air-travel safe as sealed cells. That is not a lithium carry-on pack. Confirm the airline before you book. The owner manual says not to operate or store the scooter in rain, snow, mist, or below-freezing temperatures.

GC340 or GC440: 3-wheel or 4-wheel Companion
The GC440 is the 4-wheel full-size step: 56 inch turn, 10.75 inch tires all around, 222 lb assembled. The GC340 is the 3-wheel sibling with a 45 inch turn and a 207 lb assembled weight. Capacity, speed, range, dash, and suspension match. Pick GC440 for four-wheel pavement stability. Pick GC340 for indoor turning. The LiteRider 4-Wheel is the lighter 300 lb portable if you do not need a 400 lb seat.
Funding help for a mobility scooter in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a mobility scooter when the need is long-term and the scooter is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every scooter qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Golden manufacturer warranty
