Description
The Golden Companion 3-wheel mid-size is Golden's portable 3-wheel mobility scooter for everyday indoor and outdoor routes. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets the GC240 up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Golden rates it at 350 lbs (159 kg), 5 mph (8.0 km/h), and 15 miles (24.1 km) on two U1 batteries. The turning radius is 37 inches (94 cm). Assembled weight is 170.8 lbs (77.5 kg). The heaviest printed piece is 48 lbs (21.8 kg).
Who this scooter is for
This scooter is for a person who wants a 3-wheel mobility scooter that comes apart for a car, stays at or under 350 lbs, and prefers a mid-size deck over the full-size Companion. Families usually call us when a Buzzaround still feels small for all-day use and a 400 lb Companion is more scooter than they need.
If you want a 400 lb rating, digital dash, and front and rear suspension, see the Companion GC340. If you want a lighter 300 lb scooter that comes apart wirelessly, see the LiteRider 3-Wheel. The GC240 is not a folding travel scooter.
- 350 lb (159 kg) rating and a 37 inch (94 cm) turn
- Two U1 batteries, 15 miles (24.1 km)
- Disassembles; heaviest printed piece 48 lbs (21.8 kg)
Range, speed, and batteries
Golden's current Companion mid-size sell sheet rates the GC240 at 15 miles (24.1 km) on two U1 batteries. Top speed is 5 mph (8.0 km/h). Heavier riders, hills, and cold weather shorten those figures. The charger is a 3.5 amp off-board unit. Golden's Companion manual asks for 6 to 8 hours after daily use and 12 hours on a new pair.
A 90 amp Dynamic R-Series controller and rear-wheel drive move the scooter. Freewheel mode lets a helper push it. Sleep mode shuts the electronics down when the scooter sits. The tiller has a charge port and an LED headlight.
Portability and transport
The Companion GC240 disassembles for a car. Golden's Canada brochure lists a 45 lb front half, a 48 lb rear half, and a 26 lb seat. Assembled weight is 170.8 lbs (77.5 kg). Width is 24 inches (61 cm). It does not fold.
The two U1 batteries are sealed lead-acid. Golden's sheet marks them air-travel safe as sealed cells. That is not the same as a lithium carry-on pack. Confirm the airline before you book. The owner manual says not to operate or store the scooter in rain, snow, mist, or below-freezing temperatures.

Mid-size or full-size Companion: which 3-wheel fits
The GC240 is the mid-size step: 350 lb, 15 miles, 37 inch turn, 170.8 lb assembled. The GC340 is the 400 lb full-size 3-wheel with a digital dash, front and rear suspension, and a 45 inch turn. The Companion HD is the 500 lb 3-wheel. Pick GC240 for the tighter turn and the lighter full-time portable. Pick GC340 for the 400 lb rating and the 2024 dash.
Funding help for a mobility scooter in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a mobility scooter when the need is long-term and the scooter is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every scooter qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Service and warranty
When something on the scooter needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Golden manufacturer warranty
Golden's printed Companion GC240 terms are lifetime limited on the frame, 2 years on the drive train, 2 years on electronics, and 1 year on the batteries. Wear items such as tires and shrouds sit outside that term. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
How far can a mobility scooter go?
The Golden Companion GC240 travels up to 15 miles (24.1 km) on two U1 batteries. Heavier riders and hills shorten that figure.

The Companion GC240 uses a 3.5 amp off-board charger. Golden's Companion manual asks for 6 to 8 hours after daily use and 12 hours on a new pair.
Can I take a mobility scooter on a plane?
The Companion GC240 uses two sealed U1 lead-acid batteries. Golden marks them air-travel safe as sealed cells. That is not a lithium carry-on pack. Confirm the airline before you book.

The Golden Companion owner manual says not to operate or store the scooter where it will be exposed to rain, snow, mist, or below-freezing temperatures. It is not an all-weather outdoor scooter.
Does ADP cover scooters?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a power scooter when a long-term need is confirmed through an ADP-registered therapist and an ADP-registered vendor. Westin Healthcare walks that route with you. A scooter bought before those steps is not reimbursed.
What is the difference between a 3-wheel and a 4-wheel scooter?
The Companion GC240 is a 3-wheel scooter with a 37 inch (94 cm) turning radius. The Companion GC440 is the 4-wheel full-size sibling with a 56 inch turn. Three wheels here are for indoor turning, not folding.
