Description
The Drive 3-Position Bariatric Geri Chair D574EW is Drive's extra-wide 25 inch (63.5 cm) seat recliner with a 500 lb (227 kg) rating, a five-position tray, and 5 inch casters. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
The carton on the floor is Drive D574EW-BR. Drive's current extra-wide sheet also prints Charcoal, Chocolate, and Tan. This is the bariatric D574EW, not the standard 19 inch D574.
Who this bariatric geri chair is for
This geri chair is for a person who needs Drive's 500 lb (227 kg) extra-wide frame and a 25 inch (63.5 cm) seat, with 24.5 inches (62.2 cm) between the arms. It is for long sits in a patient room or a home when a standard 19 inch D574 is too narrow or the 250 lb rating is too low.
If 19 inches and 250 lb are enough, use the Drive 3-Position Geri Chair D574. If the person needs a motor that lifts them to a stand, start with a 3-position lift chair instead. A lift chair is not an extra-wide geri chair.
- 25 inch (63.5 cm) seat, 24.5 inches (62.2 cm) between arms
- 500 lb (227 kg)
- Upright, deep recline, elevated leg rest
3-position recline, tray, and casters
Drive prints the same three positions as the standard chair: upright, deep recline, and elevated leg rest / footrest. A retractable lock bar holds the set. Drive's self-adjusting seat suspension is there so the person does not bottom out. There is no lift motor and no hand control.
The large blow-molded tray locks in 5 positions and stores on the side. Five-inch casters, two of them with locks, roll the chair and hold it. Side panels pop off for cleaning. Drive prints a moisture barrier on the seat, a built-in headrest, and angled armrests. The steel frame is a neutral colour Drive says is easy to clean. Foam and vinyl meet California Technical Bulletin 117.

Standard or extra-wide geri chair

Funding help for a geri chair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund geri chairs, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), extended health plans, long-term-care and community programs, and a geri chair may qualify as a medical expense on a Canadian tax return when prescribed. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
