Description
The Sunrise Medical Breezy EC, sold by Westin Healthcare as Breezy EasyCare, is a chrome-plated carbon steel folding wheelchair. Westin delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is a standard wheelchair with composite mag rear wheels and hand rims. The person in the seat can self-propel, or a caregiver can push from the handles.
The high-strength lightweight EC 4000 is the Breezy EasyCare configuration these figures belong to. Sunrise prints a 33.5 lb frame without riggings, a 250 lb weight capacity, and 16, 18, or 20 inch seats. Front casters are 8 inches. Arms flip back and come off. Swing-away footrests or elevating hangers were the factory options.
Sunrise Medical's current Canadian and US pages no longer take new orders for the Breezy EC Series. Call (905) 451-7743 so we can confirm what is on the floor. If this chair is gone, we will show you a current folding standard wheelchair.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who needs an everyday self-propel wheelchair in a 16, 18, or 20 inch seat, and who wants a folding steel frame that a caregiver can also push. Families usually call us when they want a basic home chair, not a custom rigid frame, and not a small-wheeled transport chair that only a companion can push.
If you only need a companion-pushed chair with small rear wheels, look at a transport chair such as the Drive Fly-Lite DFL19 instead. If you want a current folding self-propel frame that Drive still lists, see the Drive Cruiser X4 and the rest of our standard wheelchairs.
- A 16, 18, or 20 inch seat and a 250 lb rating
- Someone who may self-propel, or who may be pushed
- A folding steel chair for home, short trips, or loaner use
Design and build
The Breezy EC 4000 is a chrome-plated carbon steel folding frame. Pull up on the seat to fold it for the car or a closet. Rear wheels are composite mag style with aluminum hand rims, which is how the person self-propels. Front casters are 8 inches. Dual axle positions let the shop set adult seat height or a lower hemi height.
Flip-back desk arms come off for a side transfer. Front hangers swing away and come off. Sunrise listed industry-compatible swing-away footrests or elevating hangers, and a 2 inch seat extender on 16 and 18 inch chairs. Upholstery on the 4000 is padded nylon. This is a practical folding chair, not an ultra-light rigid frame.
- Folding chrome-plated carbon steel frame
- Composite mag rear wheels with aluminum hand rims
- 8 inch casters
- Flip-back removable desk arms
- Swing-away footrests or elevating hangers
- Padded nylon upholstery
Breezy EC 4000 specifications
These figures are Sunrise's published numbers for the Breezy EC 4000. The specification tab holds the stored values. They do not apply to the heavier EC 2000, the 450 lb EC 2000 HD, or the EC Transport.
Seat 16, 18, or 20 inches wide. Seat depth 16 inches on the 16 and 18 inch chairs, 18 inches on the 20 inch chair. Adult seat-to-floor height 19.75 inches, or 17.75 inches at the hemi axle. Back height 16 to 18 inches. Overall width with removable arms 23, 25, or 27 inches. Overall depth without riggings 30.5 inches. Chair weight 33.5 lbs without riggings. Weight capacity 250 lbs.
Sunrise's published sheet lists a limited lifetime frame warranty on the EC 4000 and one year on other components. The owner's manual writes those terms for the USA. Canadian coverage can differ by province. Westin Healthcare handles the claim.
Seat widths on the Breezy EC 4000
Sunrise printed three EC 4000 seat widths: 16 inch, 18 inch, and 20 inch. Remaining chairs are sold from stock, so call (905) 451-7743 and we will tell you which width we have, or we will point you to a current folding chair in the size you need.
Funding help for a manual wheelchair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a manual wheelchair when the need is long-term and the chair is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every chair qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, unfold it, and show you the brakes, the fold, and the footrests before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty
Sunrise's Breezy EC 4000 sheet lists a limited lifetime warranty on the frame and cross brace for the original purchaser, and one year on other Sunrise-made parts. Tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and push-handle grips are not covered. The owner's manual states that those written terms apply in the USA. Sunrise's Canadian page says coverage may vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Breezy EasyCare a transport chair or a standard wheelchair?
It is a standard wheelchair. Sunrise lists the Breezy EC 2000, 3000, and 4000 with large rear wheels and hand rims so the person can self-propel. The Breezy EC Transport is a different model with 8 inch wheels front and back. The EasyCare name on this chair is the EC self-propel line, not that transport model.
Who pushes this chair?
Either person can. The user can self-propel on the mag wheels, or a caregiver can push from the handles. That is the usual split on a standard folding wheelchair.
Will this chair fold into a car trunk?
The steel frame folds. Sunrise prints 33.5 lbs without the hangers and 30.5 inches deep without the hangers. That is heavier than a 20 lb transport chair. Two people and a larger trunk or hatch make the lift easier. Come into a Brampton or Toronto store if you want to try the fold on your vehicle.
How should the seat width fit?
Measure the person's hip width and leave a little room on each side. Sunrise printed 16, 18, and 20 inches for the EC 4000. Call us so we can confirm the width we have left. If you need a wider seat than 20 inches, look at a current heavy duty chair instead of this one.
What is the weight capacity?
Sunrise lists 250 lbs for the EC 4000. That is not the 300 lb figure printed on some 20 inch EC 2000 chairs, and it is not the 450 lb EC 2000 HD. If the person is near 250 lbs, tell us before we book delivery so we can confirm the chair is the right class.
Why large rear wheels instead of 8 inch transport wheels?
Large rear wheels with hand rims let the person wheel themselves and roll more easily over small thresholds. They make the chair wider, heavier, and harder to lift than a transport chair. Choose them when independence matters. Choose a transport chair when a companion will always push and you want a lighter lift.
What is the warranty on the Breezy EC 4000?
Sunrise's sheet lists limited lifetime on the frame and cross brace, and one year on other Sunrise-made parts, for the original purchaser. The owner's manual writes those terms for the USA. We process the Canadian claim. Details are on our service and repairs page.
Does funding help with this wheelchair in Ontario?
Some Ontario routes can help with mobility equipment, and eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy. We will point you to the right path for your case.
Can I rent a wheelchair before I buy?
Westin Healthcare rents chairs for short-term needs. See the folding wheelchair rental page and the transport wheelchair rental page. A rental chair may be a different model than the Breezy EC. Call (905) 451-7743 to check what is on the floor.
Can I still buy a new Breezy EC from the factory?
Sunrise Medical's current Canadian and US pages say the Breezy EC Series is no longer available to order. Westin can check remaining stock and show you a current folding standard wheelchair if this one is gone.
What is included with the Breezy EasyCare?
You get the folding steel wheelchair with flip-back desk arms and the hangers that are on that chair. A cushion is not listed as included on Sunrise's EC 4000 sheet. Call us so we can describe the exact chair we have.
