Description
The Zippie X'CAPE is Sunrise Medical's pediatric folding wheelchair for growing kids. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not an off-the-shelf cart chair. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses first. Then Westin builds the seat, the hangers, and the colours on Sunrise's order form.
Sunrise lists the X'CAPE at as little as 19 lbs (8.6 kg) with a 165 lb (75 kg) rating. Patented XLOCK crossbrace locks when the frame is open so the fold still pushes like a rigid kids wheelchair. Seat width starts at 8 to 16 inches and grows to 18 inches. Seat depth starts at 8 to 18 inches and grows to 20 inches.
Who this kids wheelchair is for
This chair is for a child who self-propels or is pushed, who still needs a folding frame for the car or the classroom, and whose therapist wants rigid-style lockup instead of a loose crossbrace. Families usually call us when a standard adult folder is too wide, too heavy, or has no growth left.
If the child wants the lightest rigid Zippie and does not need to fold the frame, start with the Zippie Zone. If you need more growth and the choice of a folding or rigid frame, see the Zippie GS. If the child needs tilt in space, go to the Zippie IRIS.
- Pediatric folding wheelchair after the child's OT or PT assessment
- As little as 19 lbs (8.6 kg) with XLOCK lockup
- Built-in width and depth growth, transit option as Sunrise states it
Design and fold
XLOCK is a folding crossbrace that fully locks when the chair is open. Sunrise describes one-hand push-to-lock and pull-to-fold. The frame is aluminum. Hangers can be swing-in/swing-out for transfers or fixed for the lightest setup.
VersaRail is the seat rail. Bolt-on mounts and clamps can share the same rail so a JAY seat, armrests, wheel locks, and side guards do not fight for one hole. Z-finity sets the footplate from 0.5 inches above the seat pan to 21 inches below it, and the angle is open.
Growth is 2 inches in the crossbrace and 3 inches in the seat rail. Sunrise's current Canada page lists 24 frame colours and 20 crossbrace and back-shell colours (9,600 combinations). Occupied transit is listed as yes and the flyer marks ANSI/RESNA WC-19. Use only the transit kit Sunrise approves, and follow the supplement that ships with the chair.
Zippie X'CAPE specifications
These figures are for the Zippie X'CAPE Westin configures from Sunrise's current Canada page and the X'CAPE sheet, model EIFZ1. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Seat width 8 to 16 inches, grows to 18 inches. Seat depth 8 to 18 inches, grows to 20 inches. Product width 14.8 to 26.5 inches. Front seat-to-floor 13 to 18 inches. Rear seat-to-floor 11 to 18 inches. Back height 9 to 24 inches standard, 12 to 24 inches dynamic. Back angle 8 degrees forward to 24 degrees aft. Camber 0 or 3 degrees. Centre of gravity 3 inches. Frame aluminum, folding, 80 degree front. Capacity 165 lbs (75 kg). Chair weight 19 lbs (8.6 kg). Transit yes.
Warranty in the Zippie owner-manual family is lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips sit outside that term. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province.
How this chair is configured
Seat width, seat depth, hangers, back type, camber, colour, seating, and transit are set on the Sunrise order form with the child's therapist. There is no single in-stock size and there is no add-to-cart colour radio. Westin submits the form after the assessment.
X'CAPE, Zone, or GS
The X'CAPE is Zippie's folding pediatric wheelchair canada option when the family needs a trunk fold and locked-open push. The Zone is the 14 lb (6.4 kg) rigid for an active self-propeller. The GS is the growth chair with folding or rigid frames and reverse wheel placement. For tilt, use the Zippie IRIS, the Zippie TS, or the compact Sphynx. Early intervention strollers are the Voyage and the Xpress.
A live ADP pediatric folder already on this site is the Ki Mobility Spark. The adult rotation-in-space sibling is the Quickie IRIS, which is not a kids wheelchair.
Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario
This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the assessment, the configuration, and the ADP submission are in place. We bring it in, check the fold and the wheel locks, and show you the growth hardware before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or school.
Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty
Zippie owner manuals warrant the frame and cross-brace for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items sit outside that term. The term does not transfer to a later owner. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does ADP Cover Pediatric Wheelchairs In Ontario?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program covers pediatric wheelchairs for eligible clients. ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess first. We cannot promise that a given child will be approved.
How Does The X'CAPE Grow With A Child?
The Zippie X'CAPE grows 2 inches in the crossbrace and 3 inches in the seat rail. Seat width starts at 8 to 16 inches and can grow to 18 inches. Seat depth starts at 8 to 18 inches and can grow to 20 inches.
How Much Does The Zippie X'CAPE Weigh?
The Zippie X'CAPE weighs as little as 19 lbs (8.6 kg) on Sunrise's Canada spec table. Options such as seating, transit, and hangers add weight. The 165 lb (75 kg) rating is the user limit, not the chair weight.
Does The X'CAPE Fold Into A Car?
The Zippie X'CAPE is a folding pediatric wheelchair with one-hand pull-to-fold. Sunrise lists a shipping carton of 33 by 38 by 13 inches. Folded width on the sheet starts at 5 inches without wheels, hangers, and footplates. Plan on removing the rear wheels for the tightest package.
Is The X'CAPE Transit Approved?
Sunrise lists transit as yes on the Zippie X'CAPE and marks ANSI/RESNA WC-19 on the product sheet. Occupied transit needs the Sunrise transit kit and the WC-19 supplement. Follow the vehicle and kit instructions. A chair without the kit is not a car seat.
What Seat Width Do I Need?
The Zippie X'CAPE seat width runs 8 to 16 inches and can grow to 18 inches. The child's therapist measures seated hip width. We will not guess a width from a photo.
X'CAPE Or Zone: Which Kids Wheelchair?
The Zippie X'CAPE folds and locks open with XLOCK. The Zippie Zone is a 14 lb rigid that does not fold as a crossbrace chair. Choose X'CAPE when the car or the classroom needs a fold. Choose Zone when the child self-propels all day and weight is the first limit.
What Colours Can We Order?
Sunrise's current Zippie palette on the X'CAPE page includes 24 frame colours and 20 crossbrace and back-shell colours. The child's therapist and Westin pick the combination on the order form.
What Is The Warranty?
Zippie owner manuals warrant the X'CAPE-style frame and cross-brace for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.
What Happens If ADP Declines?
Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal route. Do not take delivery of a custom chair on the assumption that a decline will reverse. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will walk through the letter with you and the child's therapist.
