Description

The Quickie IRIS is Sunrise Medical's aluminum Category 5 tilt-in-space wheelchair. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not an off-the-shelf cart chair. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses first. Then Westin builds the seat, the back, and the hangers on Sunrise's order form.

Sunrise's current IRIS page lists 40 or 55 degrees of Intelligent Rotation in Space, which can be set to reach 45 or 60 degrees posterior, a 300 lb standard capacity, a 400 lb heavy-duty capacity, and a 38 lb aluminum frame. The seat rotates around the rider's centre of gravity so the chair stays balanced through the tilt. Seat width and depth each run 14 to 22 inches.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who needs a manual dynamic tilt because they cannot shift their own weight, and whose therapist wants the wider IRIS option set rather than the steel 45 degree SR45. Caregivers tilt from the handles, or from an optional attendant control if power tilt is on the order. Reverse configuration is available when the person still self-propels and also needs full tilt.

If a simpler 45 degree steel tilt is enough, start with the Quickie SR45. If you want a Ki Mobility Complex Rotation base instead, see the Focus CR or the CR45.

  • Category 5 manual dynamic tilt after an ADP-registered therapist assessment
  • 40, 55, or 60 degree tilt on an aluminum IRIS frame
  • 300 lb standard or 400 lb heavy-duty Sunrise ratings

Design and build

The IRIS frame is aluminum. A curved rocker keeps the person's centre of gravity lined up with the chair's centre of rotation through the tilt, which is how Sunrise keeps the wheelbase short. Frame choices on the order include standard, heavy duty, a vent or battery tray base, and a contracture seat frame. Struts can be fixed or width adjustable.

Hangers swing in or out. Elevating and articulating legrests, a contracture footplate, and JAY lower-extremity supports are order-form options. The MONO backrest, power tilt with a toggle or attendant control, Empulse R20 caregiver assist, transit brackets, a vent tray, and reverse configuration are also order-form options. They do not ship on every IRIS.

  • Aluminum tilt frame, model EIZ4-2
  • 40 or 55 degree rotation, set to reach 45 or 60 posterior
  • Seat 14 to 22 inches wide and deep
  • Seat-to-floor 12.5 to 19.5 inches front and rear
  • Standard 300 lb or heavy-duty 400 lb
  • Optional power tilt, reverse configuration, and transit

Quickie IRIS specifications

These figures are for the Quickie IRIS Westin configures from Sunrise's current Canada page and the 2025 Canada order form. The specification tab holds the stored values. Use the 38 lb / 300 or 400 lb / aluminum / 40-55-60 lines, not a 265 lb / 39 lb SR45 paste if that still appears on the tab.

Seat width 14 to 22 inches. Seat depth 14 to 22 inches. Front and rear seat-to-floor 12.5 to 19.5 inches. Tilt 40, 55, or 60 degrees. Back height 15 to 21 inches or 18 to 24 inches. Back angle -30 to 5 degrees. Camber 0 degrees. Frame aluminum. Transit yes. Capacity 300 lb standard, 400 lb heavy duty. Chair weight 38 lb. Model EIZ4-2.

Warranty for the original purchaser is lifetime on the frame and cross-brace, and one year on Sunrise-made parts, in the USA and Canada. Tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and push-handle grips are outside that term.

Seat size and hangers

Seat width, seat depth, back height, and heavy-duty versus standard are set on the Sunrise order form with the therapist. There is no single in-stock size. Widths and depths each run 14 to 22 inches.

Use Legrest Footrest Type to set swing-away or elevating hangers. Swing-in/out geometry, contracture plates, power tilt, reverse configuration, and transit stay on the order form that Westin submits with you.

ADP funding for a Category 5 wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the assessment, the configuration, and the ADP submission are in place. We bring it in, check the tilt, and show you the wheel locks, the hangers, and the tilt release before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

Sunrise warrants the IRIS frame and cross-brace for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year from first consumer purchase, in the USA and Canada. The term does not cover wear items such as tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips, and it does not transfer to a later owner. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What does Category 5 mean on the IRIS?

Category 5 is Ontario's adult manual dynamic tilt class. The IRIS is a tilt-in-space chair for a person who cannot independently weight-shift. It is not a Type 1 or Type 2 folding everyday chair and it is not a transport chair.

Who qualifies for ADP on this chair?

Ontario residents with a valid health card who need a mobility aid for six months or longer may apply. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess the person before the chair is ordered. We cannot promise that a given buyer will be approved.

How does the 75 / 25 split work?

For eligible clients, ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price of an eligible manual wheelchair. The client pays the remaining 25 percent. People on Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD can be covered at 100 percent. Options that ADP does not list stay with the client.

What is the assessment process?

An ADP-registered OT or PT confirms that a generic or transport chair will not meet the need, trials tilt when that is the minimum device, and writes the prescription. Westin helps complete the application and submits it. A chair bought before approval is not reimbursed.

How long does ADP take?

Ontario aims to review a mobility-aid application within about eight weeks of receiving it. A configured IRIS then has a build time. Ask us for a current picture when the paperwork is ready.

Can we trial an IRIS?

Westin can show a Category 5 tilt at a Brampton or Toronto store when one is on the floor. The therapist's trial is what decides the tilt range and the seating. A floor chair may not match the final seat size.

What seat width do I need?

Sunrise lists 14 to 22 inches on the IRIS. Measure seated hip width with the therapist. Heavy-duty capacity and the contracture seat frame change which options can sit on the same order. We will not guess a width from a photo.

Who pushes this chair?

A caregiver often pushes and works the tilt. The person can self-propel if the therapist sets large rear wheels, or reverse configuration if they need both full tilt and hand propulsion. Optional Empulse R20 assist is a caregiver add-on, not a power wheelchair.

Does the IRIS fold into a car trunk?

The frame is not a folding commuter chair. A fold-down back is available to shorten the package. Sunrise lists 38 lb for the chair. Plan on a van or a hatch, or ask us about delivery.

What is the warranty?

Lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What happens if ADP declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal route. Do not take delivery of a custom chair on the assumption that a decline will reverse. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will walk through the letter with you and the therapist.

Is this the same chair as the SR45?

No. The IRIS is aluminum, 14 to 22 inch, 300 or 400 lb, with 40, 55, or 60 degree tilt. The SR45 is steel, 14 to 20 inch, 265 lb, and 45 degrees only.
