Description

The Zippie IRIS is Sunrise Medical's pediatric tilt in space wheelchair. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not an off-the-shelf cart chair. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses first. Then Westin builds the tilt range, the frame, and the seating on Sunrise's order form.

Sunrise lists 40 or 55 degrees of Intelligent Rotation in Space, which can be set to reach 45 or 60 degrees posterior. The seat rotates around the child's centre of gravity. Capacity is 225 lbs (102 kg), or 165 lbs (75 kg) if Z-finity footrests are on the order. The rigid weighs 32 lbs (14.5 kg). The optional XLOCK folding frame weighs 35.8 lbs (16.2 kg).

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a child who needs tilt in space pediatric positioning because they cannot shift their own weight, and whose therapist wants rotation around the centre of gravity rather than a fixed-pivot 45 degree tilt. Caregivers tilt from the handles. A folding XLOCK frame is available when the car needs a shorter package.

If a simpler 45 degree pediatric tilt is enough, start with the Zippie TS. If you need a compact static tilt that folds into a trunk, see the Zippie Sphynx. The adult sibling is the live Quickie IRIS.

  • Pediatric rotation-in-space after the child's OT or PT assessment
  • 40 or 55 degree tilt, set to reach 45 or 60 posterior
  • Rigid 32 lbs or folding 35.8 lbs, transit option as Sunrise states it

Tilt, fold, and growth

The rotation arm is sized for pediatric users. Sunrise lists a foot-release tilt actuator with no exposed cables, push-button hub locks on the back canes, and an angle-adjustable stroller handle with 260 degrees of sweep (standard with the height-adjustable backrest).

The optional XLOCK folding crossbrace locks when open and folds for transport. Folding growth is up to 4 inches of depth and 2 inches of width. The rigid uses width-adjustable strut tubes. Through True Fit Growth, the original Zippie IRIS owner qualifies for one free growth kit within 5 years (not on SE models). That kit is the parts to adjust seat width and depth. It is not a second chair.

Occupied transit is listed as yes and the brochure marks ANSI/RESNA WC-19. Use only the transit kit Sunrise approves. Leckey Mygo and Squiggles seating can mount on this base when the therapist writes them.

Zippie IRIS specifications

These figures are for the Zippie IRIS Westin configures from Sunrise's current Canada page and the IRIS sheet, model EIZ5A. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Seat width rigid 10 to 18 inches; folding 10 to 16 inches, grows to 18 inches. Seat depth 10 to 18 inches. Product width 17.5 to 25.5 inches. Front and rear seat-to-floor 13 to 19 inches. Tilt 40 or 55 degrees (set to 45 or 60 posterior). Back height fixed 19, 22, or 25 inches; adjustable 16 to 22 or 19 to 25; reclining 21 or 24; MONO 18.7 or 21.7. Back angle 5 degrees forward to 30 degrees aft. Centre of gravity 6 inches. Frame aluminum, rigid or folding tilt. Capacity 225 lbs (102 kg), 165 lbs (75 kg) with Z-finity. Rigid 32 lbs (14.5 kg), transport 22.8 lbs. Folding 35.8 lbs (16.2 kg), transport 26.6 lbs. Transport weights exclude footrests, rear wheels, seat pan, armrests, and transit. Transit yes.

Warranty in the Zippie owner-manual family is lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items sit outside that term. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province.

How this chair is configured

Tilt range, rigid or folding, seat size, back type, seating, transit, and colour are set on the Sunrise order form with the child's therapist. There is no single in-stock size. Westin submits the form after the assessment.

Zippie IRIS, TS, Sphynx, or adult Quickie IRIS

The Zippie IRIS is the tilt in space pediatric rotation chair. The Zippie TS is the original 45 degree fixed-pivot tilt at 29 lbs and 165 lbs. The Sphynx is a 30 lb static tilt (10, 20, or 30 degrees) that folds to 34 by 25.5 by 16.75 inches. Daily folders and rigids without tilt are the X'CAPE, the Zone, and the GS.

The Quickie IRIS is the adult Category 5 sibling already live on this site. It uses the same rotation idea on a larger frame: seat 14 to 22 inches, 300 or 400 lb rating, 38 lb chair, and no True Fit kids growth kit. Do not order an adult IRIS for a child who still fits Zippie sizes. Do not order a Zippie IRIS for an adult who needs 18 to 22 inches and a 300 lb rating.

Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the assessment, the configuration, and the ADP submission are in place. We bring it in, check the tilt, and show you the wheel locks, the hangers, and the tilt release before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or school.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

Zippie owner manuals warrant the frame and cross-brace for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items sit outside that term. The term does not transfer to a later owner. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What Is A Tilt In Space Pediatric Wheelchair?

A tilt in space pediatric wheelchair tips the whole seat without changing the child's hip and knee angles. The Zippie IRIS does that by rotating the seat around the child's centre of gravity, 40 or 55 degrees, set to reach 45 or 60 degrees posterior.

Does ADP Cover Pediatric Wheelchairs In Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program covers pediatric wheelchairs for eligible clients. ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess first. We cannot promise that a given child will be approved.

How Is The Zippie IRIS Different From The Adult Quickie IRIS?

The Zippie IRIS is the kids rotation chair: seat 10 to 18 inches, 225 lb rating, 32 or 35.8 lbs, and a True Fit growth kit. The adult Quickie IRIS is the live Category 5 page: seat 14 to 22 inches, 300 or 400 lb, 38 lbs, no kids growth kit. They share the rotation idea. They are not the same order form.

Does The Zippie IRIS Fold?

The Zippie IRIS is sold as a rigid tilt or with an optional XLOCK folding crossbrace. The folding frame weighs 35.8 lbs (16.2 kg) and grows 4 inches in depth and 2 inches in width. The rigid is 32 lbs (14.5 kg).

What Is True Fit Growth?

True Fit Growth is Sunrise's program for the original Zippie IRIS owner: one free growth kit within 5 years, with the parts to adjust seat width and depth. The brochure says it is not available with SE models. It is not a second chair and it is not an ADP promise on its own.

Who Pushes This Chair?

A caregiver usually pushes and works the tilt on the Zippie IRIS. Large rear wheels can be ordered if the child still self-propels. The stroller handle adjusts so a taller or shorter caregiver can push from a tilted position.

What Seat Width Do I Need?

The Zippie IRIS rigid seat is 10 to 18 inches. The folding seat is 10 to 16 inches and can grow to 18 inches. The child's therapist measures seated hip width. We will not guess a width from a photo.

Is The Zippie IRIS Transit Approved?

Sunrise lists transit as yes on the Zippie IRIS and marks ANSI/RESNA WC-19 on the brochure. Occupied transit needs the Sunrise transit kit and the WC-19 supplement. Follow the vehicle and kit instructions.

What Is The Weight Capacity?

The Zippie IRIS is rated at 225 lbs (102 kg). Adding the Z-finity footrest drops that limit to 165 lbs (75 kg). Stay at or under the limit that matches the footrest on the order.

What Is The Warranty?

Zippie owner manuals warrant the IRIS frame for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What Happens If ADP Declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal route. Do not take delivery of a custom chair on the assumption that a decline will reverse. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will walk through the letter with you and the child's therapist.
