Description

The Quickie GP is Sunrise Medical's classic aluminum rigid wheelchair, built to the person's measurements. Westin Healthcare configures it in Brampton after an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses the need, then helps with the ADP submission. It is a Category 4 ultralight rigid chair. ADP can fund 75% of the approved price for eligible clients. The assessment comes first. This is not a boxed chair that ships the next day.

Sunrise's Canadian card lists a 23.75 lb GP, a 23.6 lb tapered GPV, and a 24.5 lb GP Swing-Away, a 250 lb weight limit (350 lb on a Built-4-Me order), and seat widths from 12 to 22 inches on GP and GPV. The frame is a one-piece aluminum box. It does not fold. A folding back is an option. GP Swing-Away adds removable hangers for transfers. It is not a transport chair.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who will self-propel a made-to-measure rigid box frame, fits the GP size range, and stays at or under Sunrise's 250 lb rating (or the 350 lb Built-4-Me rating if that is the order). Families usually call us when the therapist wants a proven aluminum rigid with a lot of axle and camber range, or when the person already knows the GP from an older chair.

If you want a lighter carbon or aluminum APEX instead, see the Motion Composites APEX C and the Motion Composites APEX A. If you want another Category 4 rigid, see the Ki Mobility Ethos.

  • Self-propel use on a rigid aluminum box frame
  • A 23.75 lb GP on Sunrise's current card (GPV 23.6 lb, Swing-Away 24.5 lb)
  • Seat width and depth set on the order after the therapist measures

Design and build

The GP uses a one-piece aluminum box frame that Sunrise still describes as hand-crafted. The frame stays in one piece. Rear wheels come off for the car. The GPV tapers at the front for a tighter foot space. GP Swing-Away keeps the rigid frame and adds removable hangers, including the option of elevating hangers.

Front-frame angles are 60, 70, 75, or 80 degrees. Camber on the current card runs 0 to 11 degrees. The axle plate sets the centre of gravity from 0.5 to 3.5 inches. Standard rear tires on the owner's manual are 24 inches (22 and 26 optional). Standard casters are 5 inch polyurethane. Wheel locks are low-mount as standard. The chair is not transit approved on the Canadian card.

  • Aluminum box frame (GP, tapered GPV, or GP Swing-Away)
  • Adjustable axle plate and camber
  • Optional folding back, not a folding frame
  • Quick-release rear wheels
  • Optional rear anti-tip tubes

Quickie GP specifications

These figures are for the current Quickie GP Series on Sunrise Medical's Canadian card. The specification tab holds the stored values. Do not mix them with folding Quickie 2 numbers or with the lighter Nitrum / 5R cards.

Product weight: GP 23.75 lb, GPV 23.6 lb, GP Swing-Away 24.5 lb. Weight limit 250 lb, or 350 lb on a Built-4-Me order. Seat width 12 to 22 inches on GP and GPV, 12 to 20 inches on GP Swing-Away. Seat depth 12 to 22 inches. Front seat-to-floor 15.5 to 23 inches. Rear seat-to-floor 14.5 to 20.5 inches. Non-folding back 8 to 20 inches. Folding back 11 to 20 inches. Transit: no.

Warranty for the original purchaser is Sunrise's Canada term: lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for as long as that purchaser owns the chair; one year on Sunrise Medical parts and components. Tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips sit outside that term. The anticipated useful service time printed in the manual is five years.

How the chair is specified

The GP is built on Sunrise's order after the assessment. Westin and the therapist choose GP, GPV, or GP Swing-Away, then write seat width, seat depth, frame angle, camber, axle position, back, and colour. Those choices are not a boxed stock list. A floor chair, if we can show one, will not match every prescribed size.

ADP funding for a Category 4 wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, confirm the prescribed fit, and show you the wheel locks and the quick-release rear wheels before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

Sunrise's Canada warranty for the original purchaser is lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for as long as that purchaser owns the chair, and one year on Sunrise Medical parts and components. Tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips are outside that term, as are neglect, accident, misuse, and going over the weight limit. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What does Category 4 mean on this chair?

Category 4 is the ultralight rigid group: a rigid frame whose published light weight sits under 25 lb. The GP is a rigid aluminum box frame. Sunrise prints 23.75 lb for the GP, 23.6 lb for the GPV, and 24.5 lb for the Swing-Away. All three sit under that line.

Who qualifies for ADP on a Category 4 chair?

Ontario residents with a valid health card whose disability needs the device for six months or longer, after an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses them. Income is not the test. We cannot promise that a specific person will qualify. Devices bought before those steps are not reimbursed.

How does the 75 / 25 split work?

ADP can fund 75% of the approved price for eligible clients. The person pays the remaining 25% unless they are on Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD, in which case ADP can cover 100% of the approved price. Extra items that are not on the approved list are paid separately. Talk to us before anyone orders.

What happens at the assessment?

An ADP-registered therapist measures the person, confirms a long-term need, and writes the Category 4 prescription. Westin then builds the Sunrise order (GP, GPV, or Swing-Away, plus seat, back, and axle) and helps submit the ADP form. The chair is made after that path is in motion, not off a shelf.

How long does ADP take?

Ontario's mobility-aids page says ADP aims to review a complete application within 8 weeks. Build time at the factory sits on top of that. Ask us for a current picture once the therapist has written the order. Do not buy first and apply later.

Can I try a GP before we order?

Come into a Brampton or Toronto store and ask what we can show. A floor chair will not match every prescribed size. The GP has been in clinics for many years, so some people already know the ride. We will tell you honestly what is on the floor.

How should the seat width be chosen?

The therapist measures seated hip width and leaves a little room on each side. Sunrise offers 12 to 22 inches on GP and GPV, and 12 to 20 inches on GP Swing-Away. Depth runs 12 to 22 inches. Do not guess a width from a photo.

Does the Quickie GP fold?

The frame does not fold. Rear wheels come off. A folding back is an option if the therapist writes it. GP Swing-Away adds removable hangers, which helps transfers, but the box frame stays rigid. It is not a folding everyday chair and it is not a transport chair.

Who pushes this chair?

The person in the seat, using the handrims on the large rear wheels. A companion can also push from the back if push handles are on the order. Engage both wheel locks before sitting or standing.

What is the weight capacity?

Sunrise lists 250 lb on the standard GP. Built-4-Me orders can go to 350 lb. Stay at or under the rating on the order. Tell us before we write the form if the person is near 250 lb.

What is the warranty?

Lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, one year on Sunrise parts. Wear items such as tires and grips are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim. Details are on our service and repairs page.

What if ADP declines the application?

ADP sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. The chair should not have been bought yet. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will read the letter with you and talk about the next step, including other funding routes on the funding page.
