Description
The Ki Mobility Ethos is a dual-frame rigid wheelchair built to the person's measurements. Westin Healthcare configures it in Brampton after an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses the need, then helps with the ADP submission. It is a Category 4 ultralight rigid chair. ADP can fund 75% of the approved price for eligible clients. The assessment comes first. This is not a boxed chair that ships the next day.
Ki's brochure lists an 11.6 lb transport weight on a 16 by 16 inch standard-length frame with the rear wheels off, a 275 lb weight capacity, seat widths from 12 to 20 inches, and seat depths from 14 to 20 inches. The seat frame is isolated from the base frame by four polymers. The chair does not fold. It is not a recliner.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who will self-propel a made-to-measure rigid frame, fits the 12 to 20 inch width and 14 to 20 inch depth range, and stays at or under Ki's 275 lb rating. Families usually call us when the therapist wants a Category 4 rigid with a separate seat frame and base frame, or when the person wants a smoother ride over cracked pavement than a single-tube rigid gives them.
If you want another Ki Category 4 rigid, see the Ki Mobility Rogue ALX or the Ki Mobility Rogue 2. If you want a carbon or aluminum APEX instead, see the Motion Composites APEX C.
- Self-propel use on a dual-frame rigid
- An 11.6 lb transport lift on Ki's defined 16 by 16 setup
- Seat width and depth set on the order after the therapist measures
Design and build
Ethos uses two frames. The seat frame is the one you sit on. The base frame carries the casters and the drive. Four polymers sit between them so vibration from the casters is less likely to travel into the seat and the footplate. Ki calls that Iso Tech. The base frame is built to stay stiff. The front caster area is described as having a little flex so the casters stay on broken ground.
The wheelbase can be set independently of the seat. Camber is 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 degrees. Tubing is 1 1/8 inch. Rear wheels come off for the car. The brochure marks the chair ANSI/RESNA WC-19 transit approved. Ki lists 21 frame colours, 8 highlights, and 8 anodized options on the order. The chair does not fold, and the back is not a recliner.
- Isolated seat frame and rigid base frame
- Four ride polymers between the frames
- Independently adjustable wheelbase
- Quick-release rear wheels
- Transit approved on Ki's brochure
Ki Mobility Ethos specifications
These figures are for the current Ethos on Ki's brochure (DCN0632.1) and the 2025 user manual. The specification tab holds the stored values. Use these, not a 19 lb chair-weight line and not folding-chair language.
Transport weight 11.6 lb on a 16 by 16 inch standard-length frame with a fixed-height back, 4 inch poly casters, a tubular open footplate, standard upholstery, and the rear wheels removed. Weight capacity 275 lb. Seat width 12 to 20 inches. Seat depth 14 to 20 inches. Front seat height 13.5 to 20.5 inches. Rear seat height 13.5 to 20 inches. Camber 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 degrees. Tubing 1 1/8 inch. Transit: yes, ANSI/RESNA WC-19 on the brochure.
Warranty for the original purchaser is Ki's North America term: lifetime on the frame, polymers, and quick-release axles; one year on other Ki-made parts. Expected life of the frame is five years. Upholstery, tires, tubes, armrests, pads, and grips sit outside that term.
How the chair is specified
The Ethos is built on Ki's order after the assessment. Westin and the therapist write seat width, seat depth, seat heights, camber, polymer choice, colour, and whether transit hardware is on the chair. Those choices are not a boxed stock list. A floor chair, if we can show one, will not match every prescribed size.
ADP funding for a Category 4 wheelchair in Ontario
This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, confirm the prescribed fit, and show you the wheel locks and the quick-release rear wheels before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Ki Mobility manufacturer warranty
Ki Mobility's North America warranty for the original purchaser is lifetime on the frame, polymers, and quick-release axles, and one year on other Ki-made parts. Upholstery, tires, tubes, armrests, pads, and grips are outside that term, as are neglect, misuse, and going over the 275 lb limit. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What does Category 4 mean on this chair?
Category 4 is the ultralight rigid group: a rigid frame whose published light weight sits under 25 lb. The Ethos is a rigid dual-frame chair. Ki prints 11.6 lb for the defined transport setup, which is under that line.
Who qualifies for ADP on a Category 4 chair?
Ontario residents with a valid health card whose disability needs the device for six months or longer, after an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses them. Income is not the test. We cannot promise that a specific person will qualify. Devices bought before those steps are not reimbursed.
How does the 75 / 25 split work?
ADP can fund 75% of the approved price for eligible clients. The person pays the remaining 25% unless they are on Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD, in which case ADP can cover 100% of the approved price. Extra items that are not on the approved list are paid separately. Talk to us before anyone orders.
What happens at the assessment?
An ADP-registered therapist measures the person, confirms a long-term need, and writes the Category 4 prescription. Westin then builds the Ki order and helps submit the ADP form. The chair is made after that path is in motion, not off a shelf.
How long does ADP take?
Ontario's mobility-aids page says ADP aims to review a complete application within 8 weeks. Build time at the factory sits on top of that. Ask us for a current picture once the therapist has written the order. Do not buy first and apply later.
Can I try an Ethos before we order?
Come into a Brampton or Toronto store and ask what we can show. A floor chair will not match every prescribed size. We will tell you honestly what is on the floor.
How should the seat width be chosen?
The therapist measures seated hip width and leaves a little room on each side. Ki offers 12 to 20 inches wide and 14 to 20 inches deep. Depth starts at 14 inches on this model, not 12. Do not guess a width from a photo.
Does the Ethos fold?
No. The frame is rigid. Rear wheels come off for the car, which is how Ki reaches the 11.6 lb transport figure. It is not a folding everyday chair and it is not a transport chair. The back angle can be set on the order. That is not a recline function.
Who pushes this chair?
The person in the seat, using the handrims on the large rear wheels. A companion can also push from the back if push handles are on the order. Engage both wheel locks before sitting or standing.
What is the weight capacity?
Ki lists 275 lb for the Ethos. Stay at or under that rating. Tell us before we write the form if the person is near 275 lb.
What is the warranty?
Lifetime on the frame, polymers, and quick-release axles for the original purchaser, one year on other Ki-made parts. Wear items such as tires and grips are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim. Details are on our service and repairs page.
What if ADP declines the application?
ADP sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. The chair should not have been bought yet. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will read the letter with you and talk about the next step, including other funding routes on the funding page.
