Description
The Harmony Home Care Mattress is Harmony's standard 36 inch medical mattress, cut for the Harmony 8199 home care bed's 36 x 80 deck: a 6 inch, 275 lb support surface with a firm transfer edge and a durable antimicrobial vinyl cover, made in Canada. Westin Healthcare delivers across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
It is the economical build of Harmony's medical line: the same two layers of latex-free foam and the same transfer edge as the plusher Recovery 5 version, under a wipeable Duratex vinyl cover instead of fabric.
Who this mattress is for
This mattress is for someone sleeping on a hospital-style 36 inch bed, above all the Harmony 8199: the person who needs the lower, lighter medical build rather than a lifestyle mattress, with a cover that wipes clean after incontinence care and an edge that holds the sit-to-stand move.
It is also the practical replacement when an old hospital-deck mattress has flattened: at 6 inches and a vinyl cover it is lighter to lift and turn at linen changes than any fabric-covered build.
The 275 lb rating is the rating of the standard build. Harmony's Recovery 5 version carries 325 lbs and a plusher feel on the same footprint; the 600 lb Relax XC line starts at the 38 inch Twin XL deck. This page is the standard 36 inch option.
Construction and how it works
Harmony builds the mattress as two layers of latex-free foam: a support base with a comfort layer above it, in a 6 inch profile that keeps the overall bed height low on the 8199's deck and the mattress itself easy to handle.
The transfer edge is the working feature. When the sleeper sits on the side of the bed to move to a chair, a walker, or standing, the firmer perimeter holds them instead of collapsing. On the 8199, whose deck sets between 10 and 25 inches from the floor, the firm edge and the low deck height together make the sit-to-stand move steadier.
The Duratex cover does the home-care work: a durable vinyl, antimicrobial, built as an incontinence cover that wipes clean rather than needing a wash. Where the Recovery 5 build's cover unzips for removal, the standard cover is the wipe-and-go version.

Size and fit: the 36 inch hospital bed or the 38 inch adjustable bed?
This mattress measures 36 by 80 inches, which is the standard hospital-bed mattress size: it fits the 8199's 36 x 80 deck exactly, and it fits any other hospital-style bed with a 36 x 80 deck.
It does not fit the Harmony adjustable beds. The Harmony Hi-Low bed, the Harmony 3, the Pro and the Lite all use the 38 inch Twin XL deck, and Harmony cuts a different mattress for that width: the Harmony Hi Low Home Care Mattress Twin XL, 38" x 80" x 7". Measure the deck, not the mattress you are replacing, before ordering: 36 is the hospital size, 38 is the adjustable-bed Twin XL size, and the two are not interchangeable.
For sheets, 36 x 80 is the size sold as hospital-bed fitted sheets. Standard residential Twin sheets (39 x 75) do not fit this mattress.
Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario
Several Ontario funding routes can help with the cost of a therapeutic support surface, and eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Westin Healthcare's staff work with funding programs every week and can point you to the right route for your case. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, and this mattress normally travels with the Harmony bed it is paired with: we bring both in, set the bed up, and place the mattress before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see one first. For a scheduled in-home delivery, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased mattresses are delivered on a scheduled date.
Mattresses are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the mattress is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Which Westin beds this mattress fits
This is the mattress Harmony pairs with the Harmony 8199 home care bed, and that exact-fit pairing is what the page sells. If the bed is a Harmony Hi-Low, a Harmony 3, a Pro or a Lite in the Twin XL width, the matching Home Care mattress is the 38 inch Harmony Hi Low Home Care Mattress Twin XL. If the need is a lifestyle surface rather than a medical one, the Harmony Relax line in the matching width is the alternative.
The two Home Care builds on this footprint
Harmony makes two 36 x 80 x 6 mattresses for the 8199. This one is the standard build: the Duratex vinyl cover, a 275 lb rating, the firmer of the two feels. The Harmony Home Care Mattress with Recovery 5 is the plusher, higher-rated build: a 325 lb surface with the five-way stretch Recovery 5 cover that unzips for cleaning. The vinyl build here is the one to pick when the cover will be wiped often and budget matters; the Recovery 5 is the one when skin comfort and a removable cover matter more.
Service and warranty
The Harmony Home Care mattress carries a 5 year limited manufacturer warranty, between the Relax's 10 years and the XC's 2. When something needs attention you call the shop that sold it: Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department, and our technicians come to the home.
Frequently asked questions
Will this mattress fit the Harmony 8199 home care bed?
Yes. It measures 36 by 80 inches, which matches the 8199's 36 x 80 deck exactly, and Harmony's own e-commerce sheet lists it as the mattress that pairs with that bed.
Will it fit the Harmony Hi-Low or another Harmony adjustable bed?
No. The Harmony adjustable beds use the 38 inch Twin XL deck, and a 36 inch mattress on a 38 inch deck leaves the deck edge uncovered. The 38 inch Home Care build is the Harmony Hi Low Home Care Mattress Twin XL.
What is the difference between this and the Recovery 5 version?
The cover and the feel. This mattress uses the wipeable Duratex vinyl cover, rates at 275 lbs, and is the firmer, more economical build. The Recovery 5 version is plusher, rates at 325 lbs, and its five-way stretch cover unzips for cleaning. Both are 36 x 80 x 6 and made in Canada.
What is the Duratex cover?
Harmony's vinyl incontinence cover for the standard Home Care mattress: durable, antimicrobial, and cleaned by wiping rather than removing.
Can the cover come off to wash?
Not on this build. The standard cover is the wipe-clean version; the cover that unzips for removal is on the Recovery 5 mattress, which is the build to choose if a removable, washable cover is the priority.
How much weight does the mattress hold?
Harmony rates this sleep surface at 275 lbs. For a heavier sleeper on a 36 inch deck, call us at (905) 451-7743 and we will talk through the options: Harmony's 600 lb Relax XC line starts at the 38 inch Twin XL deck, so the right answer depends on the bed as well as the sleeper.
How thick is the mattress?
6 inches. The Recovery 5 build is the same 6 inch profile; the 38 inch Hi-Low Home Care mattress is 7. The thin profile keeps the seated bed height low on the 8199's low deck settings.
What sheets fit?
Sheets sold as hospital-bed fitted sheets, in 36 x 80. Standard residential Twin sheets are 39 x 75 and do not fit.
Is this mattress made in Canada?
Yes. Harmony's sheet for the Home Care mattress says proudly manufactured in Canada, and the line's brochure names Toronto as the manufacturing site.
Does OHIP or ADP cover this mattress?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover mattresses, and OHIP does not either. March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may help depending on the situation. Our funding page explains the routes we work with.
Can I buy the mattress on its own?
Yes. This page sells the mattress by itself, and it is the standard replacement mattress for any 36 x 80 hospital-style deck, not only the 8199.
What is the warranty?
A 5 year limited manufacturer warranty. Westin Healthcare handles warranty service through our service and repairs department.
