HighStar Hammock Sling

The HighStar Hammock Sling is a Canadian-made loop sling for people who need more sacral and thigh support than a universal sling gives. HighStar designed it to sit the hips in a more neutral position and to cut unnecessary hip rotation. Westin Healthcare sells the 2022 Homecare family (1112xx to 1115xx) in Brampton and fits it across the Greater Toronto Area.

Who this sling is for

HighStar's instruction sheet says the Hammock provides maximum support to the upper thigh and lower back. Use it when a universal sling is not enough sacral support. Head support is optional. It is a seated transfer sling, not a sit-to-stand sling.

HighStar prints one height and weight guide for the family. Confirm the size with a clinician or our staff before first use.

Safe working load follows the April 2025 chart, same bands as Universal: mesh, woven, and quilted 450 / 650 / 1000 lb; spacer 450 / 650 / 1000 lb on HighStar's spacer size split. The lift and the bar can be lower.

Which fabric and head support

Default on this page is Hammock Spacer Medium (111304), which is the article family already coded on template 19157. Head support and adjustable head support are separate SKUs.

Attachment and compatible lifts

This is a loop sling. HighStar writes that it is compatible with any floor or ceiling lift that accepts loop-style slings. Colour-coded loops go onto the carry-bar hooks. It does not use Human Care E-clips or mushroom fasteners.

On our floor it belongs on a Handicare loop carry bar: the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, the Handicare A450, or the two-point SlingBar on the Handicare Carina 350. Drive and Hoyer manuals restrict those lifts to their own slings, so we do not hang a HighStar sling there. Confirm size and fabric with a clinician or our staff before first use.

Care and laundering

HighStar's instruction sheet: wash inside a laundry bag, temperatures not to exceed 80 C / 176 F, no bleach, air dry or cool tumble with no heat, no dry clean, no iron. Always follow the care label sewn on the sling you receive. Inspect loops, seams, and the label before every use. Remove the sling from service if it is torn, frayed, or the label is no longer legible.

When something on the sling needs work, you call the shop that sold it. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department.

HighStar manufacturer warranty

HighStar's current instruction sheets do not print a simple year-count warranty. They do print that a properly cared for sling should last about 2 to 3 years. Ask us for the warranty that ships with your article. We handle the claim with you.

Is this a loop sling or an E-clip sling?

Loop. It does not use Human Care mushroom E-clips.

How is this different from the Universal?

The Hammock concentrates support at the sacrum and thighs and is meant to reduce hip rotation. The Universal is the general trunk-and-thigh sling with an open bottom.

Yes, on the loop carry bar, and on C625, A450, and Carina. Not on Drive, Hoyer, or Human Care E-clip bars.

How do I wash it?

Laundry bag, max 80 C / 176 F, no bleach, air dry or cool tumble. Follow the sewn label.
