HighStar Band Sling

The HighStar Band Sling is a Canadian-made quilted strap for supporting a limb, not a full-body transfer sling. The 2022 Homecare list offers Junior through XX-Large. HighStar's instruction sheet is for wound dressing, wrapping, foot care, and similar bedside tasks. Westin Healthcare sells it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.

Who this sling is for

HighStar: the Band Sling assists staff with support and positioning of limbs. The IFU cites NAON guidance that manual limb lifting be limited to 11.1 lb, and notes that a 200 lb person's leg is about 35 to 37 lb. Use the strap so the lift takes that load. It is not a seated hammock or universal sling.

Sizing

There is no Child size on the 2022 list. Confirm the size with our staff before first use. April 2025 SWL is 650 lb on every Band size.

Attachment and compatible lifts

This is a loop sling. HighStar writes that it is compatible with any floor or ceiling lift that accepts loop-style slings. Colour-coded loops go onto the carry-bar hooks. It does not use Human Care E-clips or mushroom fasteners.

On our floor it belongs on a Handicare loop carry bar: the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, the Handicare A450, or the two-point SlingBar on the Handicare Carina 350. Drive and Hoyer manuals restrict those lifts to their own slings, so we do not hang a HighStar sling there. Confirm size and fabric with a clinician or our staff before first use.

Care and laundering

HighStar's instruction sheet: wash inside a laundry bag, temperatures not to exceed 80 C / 176 F, no bleach, air dry or cool tumble with no heat, no dry clean, no iron. Always follow the care label sewn on the sling you receive. Inspect loops, seams, and the label before every use. Remove the sling from service if it is torn, frayed, or the label is no longer legible.

HighStar manufacturer warranty

HighStar's current instruction sheets do not print a simple year-count warranty. They do print that a properly cared for sling should last about 2 to 3 years. Ask us for the warranty that ships with your article. We handle the claim with you.
