Description
The Medcare Multi-Purpose Sling is a seated and semi-reclined transfer sling with a 4-point loop hook-up. Wider straps can sit between the legs or be routed so they do not go between the legs. Westin Healthcare quotes it and fits it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area on Medcare, Handicare, and Savaria loop carry bars.
This is the Medcare Multi-Purpose family (400024 to 400027 polyester, 400044 to 400047 mesh). It is not the Medcare Care Sling and it is not the later Handicare Hammock or Deluxe Hammock. If the person needs a general divided-leg seated sling, start with the Handicare Universal Sling.
Who this sling is for
Medcare lists this cut for a number of transfer types. It is used first for people with a single or double amputation. It is also used when sling contact on the inner thigh is not preferred, including larger thighs or sensitive skin. A caregiver can apply and remove it while the person is seated. It lifts a person who is seated or semi-reclined. Mesh is the bathing fabric.

What you get
The sling is a ripstop polyester or mesh body with a circular opening, overlapping flaps, and a support strap that runs through a guide loop on the flap. Colour-coded loops on each strap set a seated, partial-recline, or full-recline hang. Place the shoulder strap on the top hook of the carry bar and the leg strap on the bottom hook. Use the same colour loop on both sides. Do not cross the support straps in front of the person. Place the person's tailbone at the edge of the opening.
Two fabrics ship on this card:
- Ripstop polyester for everyday transfers. Medcare prints that if the fabric is punctured or torn, it will not rip
- Mesh for bathing with the sling on
Durable fabrics carry antimicrobial protection. Head support is not part of this cut.

Attachment is loop only. The 4-point hook-up fits a 2-point or 4-point hook-and-loop carry bar. It does not use a clip bar or a Human Care E-clip / mushroom bar.

Care and laundering
Machine wash in a soap solution at or under 165 F (74 C). Rinse thoroughly. Do not bleach. Do not dry clean. Hang dry or tumble dry at or under 175 F (79 C). Do not overload the dryer. Keep the sling away from a direct heat source in the dryer. Between uses, a disinfectant wipe such as Accel TB can be used. When the sling is soiled, wash it.
Inspect loops, seams, and fabric before every use and after every wash. Remove the sling from service if you find fraying, a rip, a burn, or loose stitching. Average life of a Medcare sling is 6 months to 3 years, depending on use, care, and laundering.

Which lifts this sling fits
The Medcare Multi-Purpose Sling is a loop sling. Medcare prints a 4-point hook-up that attaches to a 2-point or 4-point hook-and-loop sling attachment system. Colour-coded loops sit on the carry-bar hooks. It does not use a clip bar or a Human Care E-clip.
On our floor that is a Handicare loop carry bar on the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, the Handicare A450, or the two-point SlingBar on the Handicare Carina 350. Match the sling's own rating to the motor. A Carina 350 is 350 lb. A C450 is 450 lb. Shop related styles in full-body slings, universal slings, and divided-leg slings.
If the person needs a general divided-leg seated sling, stay with the Universal Sling. Sit-to-stand thorax slings belong on a sit-to-stand lift, not on this sling.

Medcare / Handicare manufacturer warranty
Handicare warrants slings against defects in material or workmanship for 1 year from the date of installation or 18 months from the date of manufacture, whichever is shorter. We handle the claim with you.

Mesh codes are 400044 Small, 400046 Medium, 400048 Large, and 400047 X-Large. It is not the Medcare Care Sling and it is not a Handicare Hammock.
Is this a loop sling or an E-clip sling?

Does it fit a C450, A450, or Carina 350?
Yes, those Handicare motors use loop carry-bar hooks. It also fits the C625. Match the motor's own rating. A Carina 350 is 350 lb. It does not fit a Human Care E-clip bar or a sit-to-stand thorax bar.
How is this different from the Universal Sling?
The Universal is the general divided-leg seated loop sling. This Medcare cut uses wider straps, can keep straps off the inner thighs, and is listed first for amputee transfers and for people who should not have sling fabric between the legs. Start with the Universal when that general seated sling is enough.
Can the straps stay off the inner thighs?
Yes. Medcare prints that the wider straps can be configured so they do not go between the legs. That is the reason this cut is listed for larger thighs and sensitive skin, as well as for amputee transfers.
Does it include head support?
No. This cut does not include a sewn-on head support. Tell us if the person needs head support and we will quote a head-support sling instead.
Can I use the mesh sling in the bath?
Yes. Medcare lists mesh for bathing with the sling on. Polyester is the everyday fabric.
How do I wash it?
