Handicare Mover Aqua Transfer Platform

(0 review)

The Handicare Mover Aqua Transfer Platform is Handicare's SystemRoMedic mobile transfer platform built to be used in the shower, manufacturer code 53-301, with a current safe working load of 150 kg (331 lb). It is not powered. Polyurethane seat and knee cushions with stainless fittings, three crossbars at different heights so the user finds their own grip, a non-slip marine plywood platform, and double castors with braked rear wheels. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets it up across Brampton and the GTA.

Two things to check before ordering. First, the rating: Handicare's current instructions for use, revised January 2026, print 150 kg (331 lb). Older printed material for this machine shows 180 kg. Work to 150 kg. Second, the minimum user height: the current instructions state the device may not be used by infants, children or adults who are 146 cm (57.5 in) or shorter. The user must also be able to stand up unaided or with minimal assistance. Shower-capable does not mean waterproof: it must not be lowered into water, cleaned with steam, or stored in a damp environment.

Description

The Handicare Mover Aqua Transfer Platform is Handicare's SystemRoMedic mobile transfer platform, manufacturer code 53-301, built so that it can be taken into a shower. Westin Healthcare delivers it and sets it up across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

It is not powered. There is no motor, no battery and no sling. The user steps onto a non-slip platform, takes hold of a crossbar and stands, and the caregiver pushes them where they are going. What the Aqua adds over the standard platform is that the parts a wet room destroys have been specified for a wet room: polyurethane cushions instead of upholstery, stainless fittings instead of plated ones, and a design Handicare describes as improving hygiene management.

Read the rating before you order

The current safe working load is 150 kg (331 lb). Handicare's instructions for use, revision 8, dated January 2026, print that figure on the cover and in the intended-use paragraph of all nine language sections.

Older printed material for this same machine, including the 2021 manual and the brochure that goes with it, shows 180 kg. That figure is superseded. If you already own a Mover Aqua and your manual says 180 kg, work to 150 kg and call us, because the same revision that reduced the rating also added two conditions that were not in the older document.

Who this platform is for

Handicare's conditions are printed in the manual and all of them apply.

  • The user must be able to stand up without assistance, or stand with minimal assistance. There is no mechanism on this machine, so it does not raise anybody.
  • The user must be taller than 146 cm (57.5 in). Handicare's current instructions state the device may not be used by infants, children or adults who are 146 cm or shorter. This is a hard limit, not a recommendation, and it rules out most children.
  • The user must be able to sit evenly on both seat cushions. Handicare states that the maximum weight on the label applies only in that position.

Handicare also prints three limits on use: indoors on flat surfaces only, short transfers only, and not intended for long periods of sitting or moving. Inside those limits, it does one job: bed to chair, bed to commode, wheelchair to toilet, and into the shower.

What "built for the shower" does and does not mean

This is the part worth reading twice, because shower-capable and waterproof are not the same thing and Handicare is precise about the difference.

What it means. The Mover Aqua is constructed so that it can be used in the shower. The seat and knee supports are polyurethane rather than upholstered, the fittings are stainless, and the machine can be cleaned and disinfected to the standard a wet room needs.

What it does not mean. Handicare's prohibitions are explicit and they are not softened here:

  • The device must not be lowered into water.
  • The device must not be left or stored in a damp or humid environment. Take it out of the wet room between uses.
  • The device must not be cleaned using steam.
  • The device must not be used outdoors, only indoors.
  • Repair any paint damage as soon as possible, so corrosion does not shorten the life of the frame.

A machine that goes into a shower and then comes out and dries is what Handicare designed. A machine that lives in the wet room is not.

What is on it

  • Three crossbars at different heights. This is the Aqua's own feature and it is more useful than it sounds: the user finds the grip that suits their reach and their shoulder rather than being given one bar and told to manage.
  • Polyurethane seat cushions. Good support, and they fold up easily so they are out of the way for the stand and down for the ride.
  • Padded shin supports with large contact surfaces, so standing is comfortable for users with longer lower legs, and so the pressure does not concentrate on the shin.
  • A non-slip platform surface made from marine plywood, so the user stands steadily with or without shoes. That matters more in a bathroom than anywhere else in the house.
  • A low step, so the user does not have to lift their feet high to get on.
  • A fixed narrow base frame that manoeuvres in tight spaces and stores small, with an opening designed to be as narrow as possible so the platform can come right up to a user sitting in a wheelchair.
  • Double castors, two contact surfaces per castor for easy steering, 75 mm at the front without brakes and 100 mm at the rear with full brakes.
  • Ergonomic handlebars, shaped for the caregiver who is doing the pushing.

As with the rest of the Mover family, the user and the caregiver face each other for the whole transfer. In a bathroom, where the caregiver is often working in a doorway, that is worth having.

Handicare gives the Mover Aqua an expected lifespan of at least 10 years if regular maintenance is carried out and broken parts are replaced as necessary, recommends a general overhaul once a year, and requires maintenance according to the manual at least once every 12 months. It is designed to be used safely by one carer, with the manual adding that each carer is individually responsible for assessing whether one carer or two are needed for the person in front of them.

Mover Aqua or Mover Plus?

The two platforms share a frame and look nearly identical in a photograph. They are not the same machine and the choice cannot be reversed after the order.

If the platform never goes near water, the Mover Plus is the one to buy. If the transfer ends at a shower, order the Aqua: the cushions, the fittings and the castors are specified for it and the Plus's are not.

Will it fit the bathroom?

  • Through the door. The external width is 63.5 cm (25.0 in). Bathroom doors are often the narrowest in the house, so measure that one specifically.
  • Up to the chair. The step opening is 38 cm (15.0 in) wide, and the narrow base design is what closes the last few centimetres to a seated user.
  • Room to push. The platform is 94 cm (37.0 in) long and the handlebars sit at 107 cm (42.1 in), so the caregiver needs standing room behind it.

Handicare does not publish a turning diameter. Bathrooms are where that figure would matter most, so send us the room dimensions or call (905) 451-7743 and we will work through it with you rather than guess.

Cleaning and disinfection

Handicare requires the product to be cleaned and disinfected regularly, after every use if necessary and at least once a day. Clean it with a cloth, warm water or a soap solution, and check that the castors are free of dirt and hair while you are there.

Do not use cleaning agents containing phenol or chlorine. Handicare states they damage the materials, dry out the cushions and cause premature cracking, and on a machine whose selling point is its cushions that matters. Do not clean it with steam, and do not lower it into water.

Funding help for a transfer aid in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this platform across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, check the brakes and the castors, walk the route to the bathroom with you, and show the caregiver how the seat cushions fold before we leave.

You are welcome to visit our Brampton showroom, or Mobility Specialties, our partner store in Etobicoke, if you would rather try a transfer platform first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works.

Transfer platforms are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the platform is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent before I buy?

If you only need a transfer aid for a recovery, ask us about renting first. Current packages and rates are on the rentals hub and the patient lift rentals page. Westin rents electric floor lifts across Brampton and the GTA, with same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto and Mississauga and next-day delivery elsewhere with one day of notice.

Ask us whether a shower transfer platform is on the rental fleet for your dates, because the fleet is built around powered lifts. If you later decide to buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program, an active Westin loyalty program. The rentals hub and the rental program FAQs have the rules.

Related transfer aids from Westin

  • The Handicare Mover Plus, the same platform for dry rooms.
  • The Handicare QuickMove, also non-powered, with an adjustable knee pad and a base opened by a foot pedal, for a user who needs more support through the stand itself.
  • The Handicare MiniLift160EE, a powered stand aid that raises the user on a ThoraxSling vest at 160 kg (350 lb), for a user who cannot stand unaided.
  • The Handicare Eva600EE, a passive full-body floor lift, for a user who cannot take load through their legs at all.

Everything sits on the sit-to-stand lifts hub and the patient lifts hub.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the platform needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not an overseas parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department, and our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Handicare warranty and inspection

The instructions for use state that warranty applies only if repairs or alterations are made by personnel authorised by Direct Healthcare Group, and that maintenance must be performed according to the manual at least once every 12 months. No year count is printed, so ask us for the current terms that ship with your serial number and we will handle a claim with you. Handicare recommends a general overhaul once a year and publishes an expected lifespan of at least 10 years with regular maintenance. The serial number is on a sticker on the inside of the frame, at the bottom left. We can quote the annual inspection with the platform.

Frequently asked questions

What weight does the Mover Aqua take?

150 kg (331 lb), per Handicare's current instructions for use, revision 8, January 2026. Older printed material for the same machine shows 180 kg and it is superseded. Work to 150 kg, and if your own manual says otherwise, call us.

Is there a minimum user height?

Yes, and it is easy to miss. Handicare's current instructions state the device may not be used by infants, children or adults who are 146 cm (57.5 in) or shorter. Measure before ordering.

Can it really go in the shower?

Yes. Handicare states the Mover Aqua is constructed so that it can be used in the shower, with polyurethane cushions and stainless fittings. It must not be lowered into water, cleaned with steam, or left or stored in a damp or humid environment, so take it out of the wet room between uses.

Is it powered?

No. There is no motor, no battery and no hand control. The user stands under their own power and the caregiver pushes.

Does it use a sling?

No, and none fits. It is a platform, not a hoist.

How is it different from the Mover Plus?

The frame is shared. The Aqua has polyurethane cushions, stainless fittings, a different step, a 100 mm braked rear castor instead of 75 mm, and three crossbars at different heights instead of one. The Plus has none of that and must not go near water. Both are rated to the same user weight on their current documents.

Will it fit through my bathroom door?

It is 63.5 cm (25.0 in) wide externally and 94 cm (37.0 in) long. Bathroom doors are usually the narrowest in the house, so measure that one, and leave standing room behind the handlebars for the caregiver.

Why does the user have to sit evenly on both cushions?

Because Handicare's current instructions say the maximum weight on the label applies only in that position. A user perched on one cushion is loading the machine in a way it was not tested for. It is worth telling every caregiver who uses it.

How do I clean it?

Warm water or a soap solution on a cloth, regularly, after every use if necessary and at least once a day. Keep the castors free of dirt and hair. Never use anything containing phenol or chlorine: Handicare states it damages the materials and dries out the cushions.

Does ADP cover a transfer aid in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Other routes can help when the criteria fit, and our staff will point you at the right one. Call (905) 451-7743 before you buy.

Can one caregiver use it alone?

Handicare designs it to be safely used by one carer, and adds that each carer is individually responsible for assessing whether the product suits the person in front of them and whether the transfer needs one carer or two. Never leave the user alone during a transfer.
