Description
The Fortress S700 mobility scooter is Sunrise Medical Canada's outdoor performance 4-wheel scooter. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is the current S-series flagship, not the older 1700-DT.
Sunrise rates the S700 at 350 lb (160 kg), 15 km/h (9.3 mph), and 321 lb (146 kg) including batteries. The S-Series brochure puts two 75 Ah Group 24 batteries and 13 in (33 cm) pneumatic tyres on the chassis. The 2019 Scooter Matrix prints a 98 in turning radius. The CA spec table's 116 in figure looks mislabeled; we use the matrix.
Who this scooter is for
This scooter is for a person who wants a 4 wheel mobility scooter for longer outdoor days, stays at or under 350 lb, and wants more tyre and speed than the S425. Families usually call us when a mid-size 1700-DT feels short on outdoor pace, or when they want the current Fortress factory order.
If 15 km/h is more than you need, start with the Fortress S425. If indoor turns come first, see the Fortress S410. If we still have a mid-size 1700-DT in the shop, that page is the Fortress 1700-DT 4-wheel.
- 15 km/h (9.3 mph) and a 350 lb rating
- 13 in pneumatic tyres and independent suspension on every wheel
- Two 75 Ah Group 24 batteries
Range, speed, and batteries
The Fortress S700 has a top speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph). Sunrise does not print a kilometre range on the CA card or the S-Series brochure. The 75 Ah Group 24 pack is the maker's "extended range" story. We do not invent a km figure. Range on any scooter shortens with rider weight, hills, cold, and aging batteries.
The CA card says the LED lights are 400 times more energy efficient than standard bulbs, so more of the pack stays for driving. Charge with the charger Sunrise supplies. Ask us about charge time from the S-Series owner's manual when we write the order.
Portability and transport
The Fortress S700 weighs 321 lb (146 kg) including batteries. That is a full outdoor scooter, not a suitcase scooter. Sunrise does not print a heaviest-piece weight for a take-apart. Westin delivers and assembles it. Do not plan to lift it into a car by yourself.
This is not an airline scooter. Group 24 lead-acid batteries are not a cabin lithium pack. For a folding travel scooter we stock, see the Solax Transformer.
Fortress S700 specifications
These figures are from Sunrise Medical Canada's S700 card, the S-Series brochure, and Scooter Matrix 628749-CAN Rev.1. The specification tab holds the stored values. When the CA card's 116 in turning radius fights the matrix 98 in, we use 98 in. When the matrix pair header prints 53 in length and the CA card prints 59 in, we use the CA card 59 in for this model.
Weight capacity 350 lb (160 kg). Top speed 15 km/h (9.3 mph). Weight including batteries 321 lb (146 kg). Width 26 in. Length 59 in. Turning radius 98 in (matrix). Seat height 18-20.6 in on the CA card. Wheels 13 in (33 cm) pneumatic. Batteries two 75 Ah Group 24. Independent suspension on every wheel. LED lighting. Luxury seat with height, depth, and recline, plus flip-up arms and seat rotation. Brochure colour: Urban Grey. Large wire basket standard.
Warranty on the April 2021 S425/S700 matrix: 3 years on the main frame weldment and the tiller, 2 years on the controller, motor, transaxle, and charger, 1 year on shrouds, seat, tires, and lights. Wear items sit outside that term.
S700, S425, or S410
The S700 is the outdoor performance Fortress: 15 km/h, 13 in tyres, 350 lb, 98 in turn. The S425 is the 12 km/h, 12 in, 330 lb compact outdoor. The S410 is the everyday 4-wheel with a 58.2 in turn and a 34 km printed range. The 1700-DT 4-wheel is leftover stock, no longer available to order from Sunrise.
Funding help for a mobility scooter in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a mobility scooter when the need is long-term and the scooter is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every scooter qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up the Fortress S700 across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the tiller, charger, and freewheel lever before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a 4-wheel outdoor scooter first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased scooters are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
This mobility scooter is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the scooter is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

Wear items and buyer-added parts sit outside that term. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

How Far Can a Mobility Scooter Go?

Does ADP Cover Scooters?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help fund a power scooter after an ADP-registered therapist assessment. Eligibility is personal. Talk to us before you buy. The funding section above is the starting point.
Can I Take a Mobility Scooter on a Plane?
The Fortress S700 is not an airline travel scooter. It is a 321 lb chassis plus two Group 24 batteries. For a folding lithium scooter, see the Solax Transformer.
3 Wheel Vs 4 Wheel Scooter?
The Fortress S700 is a 4-wheel outdoor scooter. A 3-wheel turns tighter. The current S-series on sunrisemedical.ca is all 4-wheel. For a leftover 3-wheel Fortress, see the 1700-DT 3-wheel.
What Is the Weight Limit for a Mobility Scooter?

Can You Use a Mobility Scooter in the Rain?
The Fortress S700 has LED lighting and outdoor tyres. Follow the S-Series owner's manual on wet pavement. Do not spray the scooter. Ask us to walk through the manual notes at delivery.
Is the Fortress 1700 Still Available?
Sunrise lists the 1700 series as no longer available to order. The S700 is a current S-series 4-wheel. We may still have 1700-DT leftover stock. Ask us what is in the shop.
