Description

The Quickie Q500 H is a hybrid rear-wheel power wheelchair from Sunrise Medical. Westin Healthcare configures it to an ADP-registered therapist's prescription and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

The Q500 H (ADP device code WP0001815) is not a stock cart chair. Seat size, SEDEO PRO or Captain's Seat, and electronics are built to the order. Sunrise Canada's page rates the base at 300 lbs (HD 350 lbs), 6 mph standard, up to 17.7 miles with Group 24 batteries, a 24.5 inch width, and a 25.5 inch turning radius without footplates. An assessment comes first. For eligible clients, ADP can fund 75% of the approved price.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who wants rear-wheel outdoor tracking with a tighter indoor turn than a classic rear-wheel base, and who is within Sunrise's 300 lb rating (or the 350 lb HD option when that is the prescribed base). Families usually call us when a mid-wheel Mini is too small outdoors and a full Q700 M is more chair than the home can take.

If you want the compact true mid-wheel, start with the Quickie Q500 M. If you need the newly redesigned mid-wheel with the 450 lb HD option, see the Quickie Q700 M. The Q500 H is not a folding travel chair.

  • ADP Adult Power Base Type 3 (device code WP0001815)
  • Hybrid rear-wheel drive, 24.5 inch base, 25.5 inch turning radius
  • SEDEO PRO or Captain's Seat on the order form

Design, hybrid drive, and SEDEO

Sunrise describes the Q500 H as a blend of rear-wheel and mid-wheel: fixed front casters, dynamic suspension, and active anti-tips so all six wheels stay on the ground. Drive wheels sit farther forward than a conventional rear-wheel chair, which is how Sunrise gets the 25.5 inch indoor turn without giving up outdoor stability. Front casters are 9 inches. Rear casters are 4 inches. Drive wheels are 13 or 14 inches. Ground clearance is 3 inches. 4-pole motors, metal gears, and extra cooling fins are the same QUICKIE motor story as the rest of the Q-series.

SEDEO PRO on this base is the configurable seat: widths 16 to 22 inches, depths 14 to 22 inches on the spec table, backs 21 to 30 inches, one-tool adjustments, and 150 degree power recline with 4 inches of anti-shear when that function is prescribed. Captain's Seat is the comfort seat in 16, 18, or 20 inch widths. Elevate is not available with tilt on the Canada comparison footnote. Occupied transit brackets are standard. The base is tested to ISO 7176-19:2008.

Controls are VR2 or R-Net. Bluetooth, infrared, assignable buttons, and Switch-It specialty controls are manufacturer options when the therapist asks for them. The chair does not fold.

Quickie Q500 H specifications

These figures are for the current North American Q500 H (model EIPW32) as printed on Sunrise Medical Canada. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Base width 24.5 inches. Length 36 inches. Turning radius 25.5 inches excluding footplates. Ground clearance 3 inches. Seat-to-floor 16.5 to 19 inches. Seat width 16 to 22 inches. Seat depth 14 to 22 inches. User weight 300 lbs; HD 350 lbs. Range up to 17.7 miles with Group 24 batteries. Speeds 6 mph standard, 5 mph optional, 8 mph optional. Batteries Group 24 or Group 34. Product weight with batteries starts at 343 lbs with no power seating, 367 lbs single, and 381 lbs multi.

Warranty on the Sunrise product page is Lifetime Limited. Coverage can vary by province and funding program. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

Colour, seat width, and seat depth

Use Color, Seat Width, and Seat Depth as the starting size and finish on the order. The therapist and Westin then complete seating, electronics, and power functions on the Sunrise order form. Manufacturer SEDEO PRO widths run 16 to 22 inches and depths 14 to 22 inches. If a size you need is not in Color, Seat Width, or Seat Depth, ask us. We will write it on the form.

Do not treat those three choices as a finished chair. A Type 3 power wheelchair is configured after assessment, not picked like a stock seat cushion.

Q500 H, Q500 M, or Q700 M

The Q500 H is the hybrid rear-wheel with a 25.5 inch turn and a 350 lb HD option. The Q500 M is the 24 inch true mid-wheel with an 18.5 inch turn. The Q700 M is the newly redesigned 25 inch mid-wheel with a 450 lb HD option. They are separate ADP rows.

Funding help for a power wheelchair in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a power wheelchair when the need is long-term and the chair is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every chair qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

After the chair is approved and built to the prescription, Westin's own team delivers and sets it up across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the joystick, charger, and seating functions before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a rear-wheel power chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

This power wheelchair is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Sunrise manufacturer warranty

Sunrise prints a Lifetime Limited warranty on the current Q500 H page. Coverage can vary by province and by the funding program on the order. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us which term applies to your chair.

Frequently asked questions

What Does Type 3 Mean On This Power Wheelchair?

Ontario lists the Quickie Q500H as an Adult Power Base Type 3 device (WP0001815). Type 3 is the group for people who need ongoing changes in postural support and modifications to electronics.

Is The Q500 H Mid-Wheel Or Rear-Wheel?

The Quickie Q500 H is Sunrise's hybrid rear-wheel base. Drive wheels sit farther forward than a classic rear-wheel chair. Sunrise prints a 25.5 inch turning radius without footplates.

Who Qualifies For ADP Funding?

In general you must be an Ontario resident with a valid health card and a disability that needs a mobility aid for 6 months or longer. An ADP-registered OT or PT has to assess you first. We cannot promise that a specific person will qualify.

How Does The 75 / 25 Split Work?

For eligible clients, ADP pays 75% of the approved price and the person pays 25%. Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD can open 100% of that approved price. Batteries and items outside the ADP device are extra.

What Is The Assessment Process?

An ADP-registered OT or PT examines the person, helps complete the application, and works with Westin on the configuration. Ontario aims to review complete applications within 8 weeks. Do not order before those steps, or you may have to pay the full cost.

Can I Try A Q500 H First?

Call (905) 451-7743 and ask what is on the floor. A trial or demo is a starting point. The funded chair is still built to the prescription.

How Should The Seat Width Fit?

The therapist measures seated hip width. SEDEO PRO widths are 16 to 22 inches and depths 14 to 22 inches. Use Seat Width and Seat Depth as the starting pair, then finish the form with us.

What Is The Weight Capacity?

Sunrise lists 300 lbs on the standard Q500 H and 350 lbs on the HD option. That HD figure is not the 450 lb Q700 M HD rating.

What If The Prescription Includes Power Tilt Or Recline?

Ontario treats power dynamic tilt and/or recline as high technology. Those chairs are bought through the Central Equipment Pool. Your therapist will say if that path applies.

What Happens If ADP Declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. Do not take delivery on the assumption that funding will arrive later.

What Is The Warranty?

Sunrise prints Lifetime Limited on the current product page. Provincial funding rules can change what is on the invoice. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

Will It Fold Into A Car Trunk?

No. The Quickie Q500 H is a full-size hybrid rehab base. Canada lists a 24.5 inch width and a starting weight of 343 to 381 lbs with batteries.
