Patient Lift Options for Home Care: Ceiling vs Portable

Why Patient Lifts Matter

Transferring a loved one from bed to wheelchair, toilet, or bath can be physically demanding and risky for both the caregiver and patient. Patient lifts make these transfers safe and dignified. Westin Healthcare offers a range of patient lift solutions for GTA families.

Types of Patient Lifts

Portable Floor Lifts (Hoyer Lifts)

Mobile lifts on wheels that can be moved throughout the home.

Pros:

  • No installation required
  • Can be used in any room
  • Lower initial cost
  • Available for rent

Cons:

  • Takes up floor space
  • Requires more physical effort from caregiver
  • Cannot be used in tight spaces

Ceiling Lifts

Permanently installed track systems mounted on the ceiling.

Pros:

  • Easier for caregiver to operate
  • No floor space taken
  • Smoother, more comfortable transfers
  • Can cover multiple rooms with connected tracks

Cons:

  • Professional installation required
  • Higher initial cost
  • Cannot be moved

Sit-to-Stand Lifts

For patients who can bear some weight. Helps them stand from sitting position.

ADP Funding for Patient Lifts

Patient lifts are often covered by Ontario ADP funding. As an authorized ADP vendor, Westin Healthcare can help with the application process.
