Who this scooter is for

This scooter is for a person who does most of their driving indoors or in tight lots, needs more than 300 lbs of rating, and still wants a scooter that splits into the car without a lift. Families usually call us when the XL 3-wheel rating is short, the home has narrow doorways, and a full-size EX is more scooter than the car can take.

If 300 lbs is enough, start with the XL 3-wheel and save the difference. If you want U1 batteries, 350 lbs, and straighter outdoor tracking, the EX 4-wheel and the 4-wheel XLS HD 4-wheel are the next steps. The XLS HD does not fold.

Range, speed, and batteries

Golden rates the GB121B-SHZ at up to 9 miles (14.5 km) per charge at 200 lbs (91 kg) on the standard 12 AH pack, and 4 mph (6.4 km/h). The Canadian price list carries an XR 22 AH upgrade pack (MBE-BATT1222-BW) that prints a longer marketing range; ask us before you count on it for a delivery date. Heavier riders, hills, and cold weather shorten the printed 9 miles. The charger is off-board. Golden asks for a 12 hour first charge, then 6 to 8 hours after daily use.

A 50 amp controller and rear-wheel drive move the XLS HD. Freewheel mode lets a helper push it. A USB port on the wraparound Delta tiller charges a phone.

Portability and transport

The Buzzaround XLS HD 3-wheel comes apart in four steps into five pieces, no tools. Golden lists the heaviest piece, the front half, at 32 lbs (14.5 kg). Weight with batteries is 100 lbs (45.4 kg), 84 lbs (38.1 kg) without. Width is 20 inches (51 cm), so it clears a 24 inch doorway with room to spare and fits most hatchbacks and SUVs split.

It is a compact heavy-duty travel scooter, not a folding airline scooter. The batteries are sealed 12 AH units. For flights, start with the CarryOn and still confirm the airline's battery rules.
