Description
The Beka Carlo Alu Classic 185 Floor Lift with 6-Point Carry Bar is Beka Hospitec's aluminum CARLO Classic floor lift, listed for Canada by Savaria Patient Care. It is rated at 185 kg (408 lb) and built for seated transfers, toileting, bathing and showering, and for picking a person up off the floor after a fall. Westin Healthcare delivers it and sets it up across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
This is the base North American Classic 185: the 6-point carry bar, the on-board charger, and dual controls, on the standard-height aluminum chassis. Every CARLO shares the same frame design, the same electrically spreading legs, the same cable hand control and the same on-board charging. What changes between the order codes is the safe working load, the carry bar and the sling connection that goes with it, whether a calibrated scale is fitted, and whether the chassis is standard height or low. This page is the Carlo Alu Classic 185 build, manufacturer code 924003208. The rest of the range is listed further down.
Who this lift is for
CARLO suits a home, a retirement residence or a long-term care floor where transfers happen every day and the caregiver needs one machine that covers the bedroom and the bathroom. The chassis and lifting column are aluminum, so the pushing weight stays low for the size of the machine, and the double castors roll on soft flooring. Beka states the lift is for indoor use on a level floor by people who have been trained on it, and asks that a qualified employee or a therapist assesses the person before the first lift.
- Seated transfers between a bed, a chair, a wheelchair and a commode
- Toileting, bathing and showering, which Beka and Savaria both name as CARLO uses
- Picking a person up off the floor after a fall, within the rated load
- Rooms where the legs have to open around a wheelchair, a commode or a bath frame
- People inside 185 kg (408 lb), limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the bar and the sling
How it lifts
The boom is electric and the legs are electric. The same cable hand control that raises and lowers the boom also spreads and closes the legs, so the caregiver can open the base around a wheelchair, a commode or a bath and close it again for a doorway without putting the pendant down. The hand control shows the charging condition of the battery, failure diagnostics and service notifications, so a flat battery or a due service is visible before the transfer starts, not during it.
The 6-point carry bar is what separates the Classic from the rest of the range. Six attachment points spread the sling wider than a two-point bar does, which is what makes a comfortable seated transfer possible, and an anti-rotation mechanism removes the involuntary rotation and the swivel that unsettles a person mid-lift. The bar still turns a full 360 degrees when the caregiver turns it. A safety locking mechanism holds the sling loops in the holders.
Height adjustment is electrical and the carry bar comes all the way down to floor level, which is how a person who has fallen is picked up, and it is also what lets the bar get low enough for a bathtub or a low bed. There is a manual emergency lowering system as a backup. The legs spread electrically and are built low so they pass underneath baths and care beds. Four double castors carry the lift and two of them have brakes.
Charging is on board, so the lift plugs in where it stands and there is no separate wall unit to find. The battery is a removable 24 V pack, and Beka states that the battery and the charger are backwards compatible across all of its mobile lifts, so a facility running more than one Beka machine can share spares. The drive is a 24 V LINAK unit.

Beka also prints the electrical detail: the lift runs on a 24 V battery at a maximum draw of 10 A (240 VA), the applied part is Type B, and the duty rating is 10 per cent, meaning 2 minutes of continuous operation followed by an 18 minute pause. That intermittent running is a designed motor protection, not a fault. The lift motor also has an integrated impact and jamming protection that lets the boom run free if the carry bar meets an obstacle. Protection class is IPX4 on the lift and IPX5 on the battery and the charger. The charger draws a maximum of 400 mA and the battery is a 24 V, 2.9 Ah sealed lead pack. The turning radius is 1350 mm (53.1 in). Beka rates the lift for indoor operation between 10 and 40 degrees Celsius at 30 to 75 per cent relative humidity, non-condensing.
The rest of the CARLO family
Beka builds CARLO in two carry-bar families, and the family decides the sling. Classic takes loop slings. Comfort EP takes clip slings. They are not interchangeable, so pick the family first and the capacity second.
CARLO Classic, loop slings
- 924003208: Classic 185 with the 6-point carry bar, on-board charging. This listing.
- 924003208S: Classic 185 with the 6-point carry bar and a calibrated scale.
- 924002508: Classic 185 on the low chassis.
- 924003008: Classic 230 with the wide 6-point carry bar, on-board charging.
- 924003008S: Classic 230 with the wide 6-point carry bar and a calibrated scale.
- 924003218 and 924003018: the same Classic 185 and Classic 230 supplied with two batteries and a wall charger instead of on-board charging. Our Beka Carlo Lift page carries those.
CARLO Comfort EP, clip slings
- 925006008S: Comfort EP 185 with a calibrated scale, on-board charging.
- 925006108: Comfort EP 185 on the low chassis.
- 925007008: Comfort EP 230, on-board charging.
- 925007008S: Comfort EP 230 with a calibrated scale.
- 925006008, 925006018 and 925007018: the Comfort EP builds without a scale or with two batteries and a wall charger. Our Beka Carlo Alu Comfort EP page carries those.
185 and 230 are the safe working loads in kilograms. A scale build has a calibrated patient scale fitted at the factory. Low chassis means the legs are built lower to clear a lower bed or bath frame. If you are not sure which code fits the room and the slings you already own, call (905) 451-7743 and we will work it out with you, or compare the range on the patient lifts hub.
Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this lift across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
You are welcome to visit our Brampton showroom, or Mobility Specialties, our partner store in Etobicoke, if you would rather see a lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our patient lift rental service; purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Floor patient lifts are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the lift is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?
Yes. If you only need a lift for a recovery, or you want to live with a floor lift before you buy, rent first. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub and the patient lift rentals page. Westin rents electric floor lifts across Brampton and the GTA.
Rental packages include an electric floor lift and a sling. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Which slings this lift fits
This is a loop lift. The sling straps drop into the holders on the carry bar and a safety locking mechanism holds them there. Beka is explicit that the Classic carry bar is for slings with loops. Clip slings do not fit it. Do not put a Comfort EP clip sling, a Human Care mushroom fitting, or a sit-to-stand thorax sling on this bar.
Beka's own manual carries the warning in plain words: check that the sling fittings at the lift match the sling, and the use of slings that are not compatible can cause accidents. Beka also prints that a sling has to be checked before and after every use, that a frayed, cut or damaged sling or loop must be taken out of service, and that the normal service life of a Beka sling is about 36 months from the production date marked on the label. A clinician or therapist should assess the person before the first lift, especially where shoulder movement is limited or the person cannot hold on with one or both hands.
Beka lists loop slings for the CARLO Classic in a US and Canadian range: nylon transfer slings (923003103 to 923003503), bathing slings (923004103 to 923004503), and nylon toilet slings (923005103 to 923005503), each in S, M, L, XL and XXL. Beka's own size guide runs S 35-65 kg, M 55-85 kg, L 75-125 kg, XL 120-160 kg, XXL 160-210 kg, and asks that the correct size is chosen for the person, not the closest one to hand.
Loop slings we carry that suit this bar include the Savaria Stand Assist Standard Sling with Loops, the Savaria High Easy Sling with Loops, and the Savaria In-Situ Recline Sling with Loops. For everyday seated work look at the Handicare Universal Sling, the Comfort Care Sling with Head Support, and the Deluxe Hammock Sling. Browse the ranges: universal slings, full-body slings, toileting slings, and divided-leg slings.
One more rule that matters on a lift this strong: the working load of the assembled system is the lowest rating in it. Pairing this lift with a lighter sling gives you the sling's rating, not the lift's. Check the sling label and ask our staff to confirm the size before you order. A sling is quoted separately so it can be fitted to the person.
Related patient lifts from Westin
Inside the Beka range, the choice is really the sling connection. If your facility runs clip slings and powered hanger-bar positioning, the Carlo Alu Comfort EP 185 is the sibling to compare against this one. If 185 kg (408 lb) is not enough capacity, the 230 builds carry 230 kg (507 lb) on a longer, wider chassis.
Outside Beka, the Handicare Eva600EE is the aluminum non-folding floor lift rated 600 lb, and the Handicare FGA-700 is the 700 lb bariatric aluminum lift. If you want a lift that folds flat for a car boot or a closet, the Handicare Carina 350 and the SPAN F400 are the folding options. For a person who can still take weight through their legs, a standing aid such as the Beka Nora Alu or the Handicare MiniLift is the better transfer. All of them sit on the patient lifts hub.
If a ceiling track suits the room better than a floor lift, look at the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625 and the Savaria M-Series.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not an overseas parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Beka warranty and inspection
Beka Hospitec's operating manual states that the manufacturer is responsible for the safety and reliability of the lift only when regular functional tests and checks are carried out, that the lift must be run with original accessories, and that warranty rights on a modification and on the device functions related to it expire if extensions or fittings are carried out by anyone other than Beka Hospitec or a company Beka has authorized. Beka does not print a year count in that manual, so ask us for the current terms that ship with your serial number and we will handle a claim with you.
Beka prescribes an annual safety check and maintenance by the manufacturer or by specialists the manufacturer has authorized, recorded in your inventory register, with the due date on the inspection sticker on the back of the lift. Beka also asks for a daily clean and disinfect, a weekly visual check of all components and the power cable, and a function test. We can quote the annual inspection with the lift.
Frequently asked questions
Which CARLO is this exactly?
It is manufacturer code 924003208, the CARLO Alu Classic 185. Beka rates it at 185 kg (408 lb).
What slings fit it?
Loop slings only. The Classic carry bar takes slings that finish in a fabric loop, held by a safety locking mechanism. Clip slings do not fit this bar. If your facility already owns clip slings, the Comfort EP is the build you want instead.
What is the difference between Classic and Comfort EP?
Two things. The sling connection: Classic is loop, Comfort EP is clip, and they do not swap. And the bar: Comfort EP adds an Electrical Positioning System that tilts the person between sitting and lying from the hand control, which Classic does not have. Both are aluminum, both have powered legs, and both lower the bar to the floor.
Does ADP cover a patient lift in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Other routes can help when the criteria fit, and our staff will point you at the right one. Call (905) 451-7743 before you buy.
What is the safe working load?
185 kg (408 lb) for the lift itself. The assembled system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the carry bar and the sling, so check the sling label too.
Can it lift someone off the floor?
Yes. Electrical height adjustment brings the carry bar all the way down to floor level, which is what Beka designed the low bar height for, and there is a manual emergency lowering system as a backup. Assess the person before you lift them, and stay inside the rated load.
Can it be used in the bathroom?
Yes. Beka and Savaria both name bathing, showering and toilet transfers as CARLO uses, and the legs are built low so they pass underneath baths and care beds. The lift is rated IPX4. It is not to be immersed, and Beka says it must not be sterilized.
Does the lift fold?
No. CARLO is a fixed-frame hospital-grade floor lift, not a folding home lift. If you need a lift that folds for a car boot or a closet, look at the Carina 350 or the SPAN F400 instead.
Does a sling come with the lift?
No. The lift is supplied with the carry bar, the cable hand control, dual controls and on-board charging. A sling is quoted separately so it can be sized to the person and matched to the loop connection.
How long does the battery last between charges?
Beka fits a removable 24 V, 2.9 Ah pack with on-board charging. The battery has to be fully charged before first use, and Beka asks that it is recharged as soon as it is discharged, and every six months if the lift is in storage, because a deep discharge can destroy it. The battery only charges when the emergency stop is released. The hand control shows the charge condition.
How often does it need to be inspected?
Beka prescribes an annual safety check and maintenance by the manufacturer or by specialists the manufacturer has authorized, recorded in your inventory register. Beka also asks for a daily clean and disinfect and a weekly visual check and function test. We can quote the annual inspection with the lift.
Can I rent a lift first?
Yes. Westin rents electric floor lifts across Brampton and the GTA, with a sling in the package. If you buy afterwards, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program.
