Description

The Zippie Zone is Sunrise Medical's ultra-lightweight pediatric rigid wheelchair for active kids and teens. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not an off-the-shelf cart chair. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses first. Then Westin builds the seat, the camber, and the colours on Sunrise's order form.

Sunrise lists the Zone at 14 lbs (6.4 kg) with a 165 lb (75 kg) rating. The frame is 7000 series aerospace aluminum with ShapeLoc heat-treat and ovalized tubing. Seat width runs 8 to 16 inches. Seat depth runs 8 to 18 inches, with 3 inches of depth growth in the frame and 2 inches more in the sling.

Who this kids wheelchair is for

This chair is for a child who self-propels, who fits Sunrise's 8 to 16 inch seat, and whose therapist wants the lightest Zippie rigid rather than a folding crossbrace. Families usually call us when an adult rigid is too tall at the seat, too wide, or has wheel access the child cannot reach.

If the family needs a trunk fold, start with the Zippie X'CAPE. If you need more growth and the choice of folding or reverse-wheel placement, see the Zippie GS. A live ADP pediatric rigid already on this site is the Ki Mobility Rogue XP.

  • Pediatric rigid wheelchair after the child's OT or PT assessment
  • 14 lbs (6.4 kg) on a 7000 series aluminum frame
  • Built-in depth growth, transit option as Sunrise states it

Design and build

Every inch of the Zone is aimed at wheel access. The backrest is inset. The footrest flips up and the angle adjusts. The hub lock sits on the seat rail so it does not block the hands during a push.

Sunrise used 7000 series aluminum, ShapeLoc heat-treating, and ovalized tubing so the walls can be thinner without giving up strength. Width growth is a parts swap, not a new frame. Camber is 0, 3, or 6 degrees. Occupied transit is listed as yes. Use only the transit kit Sunrise approves.

Zippie Zone specifications

These figures are for the Zippie Zone Westin configures from Sunrise's current Canada page, model EIRZ1. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Seat width 8 to 16 inches. Seat depth 8 to 18 inches. Product width 15 to 30 inches. Front seat-to-floor 14 to 19 inches. Rear seat-to-floor 13 to 19 inches. Back height adjustable from the 6 to 8 inch range through the 15 to 18 inch range. Back angle -27 to 8 degrees. Frame angle 80 degrees. Camber 0, 3, or 6 degrees. Centre of gravity 2.5 inches. Frame 7000 series aluminum, rigid. Capacity 165 lbs (75 kg). Chair weight 14 lbs (6.4 kg). Transit yes.

Warranty in the Zippie owner-manual family is lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items sit outside that term. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province.

How this chair is configured

Seat width, seat depth, camber, back height, colour, seating, and transit are set on the Sunrise order form with the child's therapist. There is no single in-stock size. Westin submits the form after the assessment.

Zone, X'CAPE, or GS

The Zone is the lightest Zippie rigid for a self-propelling child. The X'CAPE is the 19 lb folding pediatric wheelchair canada option when the car needs a crossbrace fold. The GS trades some weight for 2 inches of width growth, 4 inches of depth growth, and reverse wheel placement. For tilt in space pediatric needs, use the Zippie IRIS rather than the Zone. Early intervention strollers are the Voyage and the Xpress.

The adult rotation-in-space sibling is the Quickie IRIS. It is not a kids wheelchair and it is not a rigid daily chair.

Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the assessment, the configuration, and the ADP submission are in place. We bring it in, check the wheel locks and the anti-tips, and show you the growth hardware before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or school.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

Zippie owner manuals warrant the frame and cross-brace for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items sit outside that term. The term does not transfer to a later owner. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does ADP Cover Pediatric Wheelchairs In Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program covers pediatric wheelchairs for eligible clients. ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess first. We cannot promise that a given child will be approved.

How Much Does The Zippie Zone Weigh?

The Zippie Zone weighs 14 lbs (6.4 kg) on Sunrise's Canada spec table. Seating, wheels, and transit hardware add weight. The 165 lb (75 kg) rating is the user limit.

How Does The Zone Grow With A Child?

The Zippie Zone has 3 inches of depth growth built into the frame and 2 inches more in the sling upholstery. Width growth is a parts swap rather than a new frame. Seat width still tops out at 16 inches on this model.

Is The Zone Transit Approved?

Sunrise lists transit as yes on the Zippie Zone. Occupied transit needs the Sunrise transit kit and the WC-19 supplement. Follow the vehicle and kit instructions.

Does The Zone Fold?

The Zippie Zone is a rigid frame. It does not fold like the X'CAPE. Quick-release rear wheels and a compact rigid package are how most families get it into a car. If you need a crossbrace fold, use the X'CAPE.

What Seat Width Do I Need?

The Zippie Zone seat width runs 8 to 16 inches. The child's therapist measures seated hip width. We will not guess a width from a photo.

Zone Or GS: Which Rigid?

The Zippie Zone is the 14 lb active rigid. The Zippie GS is a 25 lb rigid (folding also available) with more growth and reverse wheel placement. Choose Zone when weight and wheel access come first. Choose GS when the child will grow through a wider seat or still needs wheels at the front.

What Colours Can We Order?

Sunrise's current Zippie palette on the Zone page includes Pink Power, Celestial Sapphire, Zebra, and the rest of the 2025 chip set. Coloured forks, axle plates, Spinergy wheels, and spoke guards are order-form options.

What Is The Warranty?

Zippie owner manuals warrant the Zone frame for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What Happens If ADP Declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal route. Do not take delivery of a custom chair on the assumption that a decline will reverse. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will walk through the letter with you and the child's therapist.
