Description

The Zippie GS is Sunrise Medical's pediatric growth wheelchair. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not an off-the-shelf cart chair. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses first. Then Westin builds the frame type, the seat, and the wheel placement on Sunrise's order form.

Named for its growth system, the GS offers up to 2 inches of width growth and up to 4 inches of depth growth on both the rigid and folding frames. Sunrise lists the rigid at 25 lbs (11.3 kg) with a 165 lb (75 kg) rating. Seat width runs 10 to 18 inches. Seat depth runs 10 to 20 inches.

Who this kids wheelchair is for

This chair is for a child who will grow through more than one school year on the same base, and whose therapist wants a folding or rigid frame plus the option to put the push wheels at the front. Families usually call us when a Zone is too small on growth or an X'CAPE does not offer reverse wheel placement.

If the child is an active self-propeller and weight is the first limit, start with the Zippie Zone. If you only need a locked folding frame, see the Zippie X'CAPE. For tilt, go to the Zippie IRIS.

  • Pediatric growth wheelchair after the child's OT or PT assessment
  • Up to 2 inches of width and 4 inches of depth on the same frame
  • Folding or rigid, standard or reverse wheel placement

Growth, frames, and wheel placement

Both frames use a growing seat pan. Armrests and legrests adjust so the child's position stays honest as the seat grows. Dual seat rails let the seat sit separately from the armrests and wheel locks so parts do not collide on a short rail.

The folding frame is the car-and-closet option. The rigid frame has fewer moving parts and is the lighter of the two. Sunrise prints 25 lbs (11.3 kg) for the rigid only. Reverse placement puts the push wheels at the front when the child has a short reach or needs to see the wheels. Those wheels can move to the rear later.

Occupied transit is listed as yes. Use only the transit kit Sunrise approves.

Zippie GS specifications

These figures are for the Zippie GS Westin configures from Sunrise's current Canada page, model EIZGS. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Seat width 10 to 18 inches. Seat depth 10 to 20 inches. Product width 19 to 27 inches. Front seat-to-floor 14 to 20 inches. Rear seat-to-floor 12.5 to 20 inches. Back height fixed 19, 22, or 25 inches, or adjustable 16 to 22 or 19 to 25 inches. Back angle -30 to 5 degrees. Centre of gravity 3 inches. Frame aluminum, rigid or folding. Capacity 165 lbs (75 kg). Rigid chair weight 25 lbs (11.3 kg). Transit yes.

Warranty in the Zippie owner-manual family is lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items sit outside that term. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province.

How this chair is configured

Rigid or folding, standard or reverse wheels, seat size, back height, colour, seating, and transit are set on the Sunrise order form with the child's therapist. There is no single in-stock size. Westin submits the form after the assessment.

GS, Zone, or X'CAPE

The GS is the Zippie growth chair when the family needs more than the Zone's 16 inch width cap or wants wheels at the front for a time. The Zone is the 14 lb rigid for an active self-propeller. The X'CAPE is the 19 lb XLOCK folder. For tilt in space pediatric needs, use the Zippie IRIS, the TS, or the Sphynx. Strollers are the Voyage and the Xpress.

A live ADP pediatric rigid on this site is the Ki Mobility Rogue XP. The adult Quickie sibling is the Quickie IRIS, which is not a kids wheelchair.

Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the assessment, the configuration, and the ADP submission are in place. We bring it in, check the fold or the rigid locks, and show you the growth hardware and wheel placement before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or school.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

Zippie owner manuals warrant the frame and cross-brace for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items sit outside that term. The term does not transfer to a later owner. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does ADP Cover Pediatric Wheelchairs In Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program covers pediatric wheelchairs for eligible clients. ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess first. We cannot promise that a given child will be approved.

How Does The Zippie GS Grow?

The Zippie GS grows up to 2 inches in seat width and up to 4 inches in seat depth on both the rigid and folding frames. The growing seat pan, armrests, and legrests move with that change so the child stays centred.

Is The GS Folding Or Rigid?

The Zippie GS is sold as a folding frame or a rigid frame. Sunrise lists 25 lbs (11.3 kg) for the rigid. The folding frame is the heavier, more compact-storage option. The therapist picks the frame on the order form.

What Is Reverse Wheel Placement?

On the Zippie GS, reverse placement puts the push wheels at the front of the frame. Sunrise lists that setup for a child with a shorter reach or who needs to see the wheels. The wheels can move to the rear later.

How Much Does The Zippie GS Weigh?

The Zippie GS rigid weighs 25 lbs (11.3 kg) on Sunrise's Canada spec table. The folding-frame weight is not on that table. Seating and transit hardware add weight. The user limit is 165 lbs (75 kg).

Is The GS Transit Approved?

Sunrise lists transit as yes on the Zippie GS. Occupied transit needs the Sunrise transit kit and the WC-19 supplement. Follow the vehicle and kit instructions.

What Seat Width Do I Need?

The Zippie GS seat width runs 10 to 18 inches. The child's therapist measures seated hip width and the remaining growth. We will not guess a width from a photo.

GS Or Zone: Which Kids Wheelchair?

The Zippie GS is the growth chair with folding or rigid frames and reverse wheels. The Zippie Zone is the 14 lb rigid for an active self-propeller. Choose GS when growth and wheel placement matter more than the last few pounds.

What Is The Warranty?

Zippie owner manuals warrant the GS frame for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What Happens If ADP Declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal route. Do not take delivery of a custom chair on the assumption that a decline will reverse. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will walk through the letter with you and the child's therapist.
