Description
The Sunrise Medical Quickie M6 is a heavy duty folding wheelchair with a 650 lb rating. Westin Healthcare configures it to an occupational therapist or physiotherapist prescription and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is not an off-the-shelf chair that ships the same day you click buy.
Sunrise builds the M6 as a modular steel folding frame, modeled after the Quickie 2 layout, with a double locking cross-brace and a stabilizer bar. The current Canada specification table lists a 53 lb chair, seat widths from 22 to 30 inches, and seat depths from 18 to 22 inches. An ADP-registered therapist assessment comes first.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who needs a long-term heavy duty folding wheelchair, who fits Sunrise's 650 lb rating and the 22 to 30 inch seat range, and who will use the chair for six months or longer. Therapists often pick the M6 when a standard Quickie folder's 300 or 350 lb path is not enough, or when the seat must be wider than 22 inches.
If the prescription fits a 300 lb aluminum folder, start with the Quickie 2 or the Quickie QS5 X. If the therapist wants a Category 2 aluminum folder, see the Quickie QX. The M6 is the 650 lb steel chair, not those ultralights.
- A folding heavy duty chair built to prescription
- Sunrise's 650 lb rating and 22 to 30 inch seat
- Someone who can self-propel, foot-propel, or who may be pushed
Design and build
The M6 uses high-strength steel and interchangeable heavy-duty parts so the shop can change pieces as needs change. A double locking cross-brace and a stabilizer bar cut frame flex so more of a push reaches the wheels. The axle plate is adjustable. Low seat heights help with foot propulsion.
The frame folds for a van or a closet. Sunrise does not list a transit system on the Canada specification table. Rear wheels are 24 inches on the Canada form. Casters are 5 or 8 inches and pair with the 17, 18.5, or 20 inch seat heights.
- Folding steel frame, model EIF1
- Locking cross-brace and stabilizer bar
- Adjustable axle plate
- Seat width 22 to 30 inches
- No transit listing on the Canada spec table
Quickie M6 specifications
These figures are for the Quickie M6 on Sunrise Medical Canada's current specification table and the May 2025 Canada order form. The specification tab holds the stored values. Do not mix them with the Quickie 2 Heavy Duty (350 lb aluminum) or with the QS5 X.
Seat width 22 to 30 inches. Seat depth 18 to 22 inches. Front and rear seat-to-floor 17 to 20 inches. Back height 16.75 to 20.13 inches. Camber 0 degrees. Product weight 53 lbs. Weight capacity 650 lbs. Frame steel. Shipping carton 32 by 35 by 15 inches. Average ship 60 lbs.
Warranty for the original purchaser is Sunrise's Limited Lifetime term on the frame and cross-brace, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items such as tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips sit outside that term. Sunrise notes that coverage can vary by province.
Size and configuration
The M6 is built to the assessment, not pulled off a shelf as a finished everyday cart item. Westin records seat width, seat depth, seat height, hangers, wheels, and colour from the therapist's measurements and the Sunrise order form. Those choices do not turn the chair into a next-day cart item.
This is a self-propel folding wheelchair with large rear wheels. It is not a transport chair.
M6 or another Quickie folding chair
The M6 is Sunrise Canada's current 650 lb steel folder. The Quickie 2 is the aluminum folding family with a 300 lb standard path and a 350 lb heavy-duty path. The Quickie QS5 X and the Quickie QXi are lighter folding chairs with a 300 lb rating and seats to 20 inches. The Quickie QX is the Category 2 aluminum sister.
If the therapist wants a rigid instead, see the Quickie GP (Built-4-Me path to 350 lb) or the Quickie Nitrum.
Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario
This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the prescription is built. We bring it in, unfold it, and show you the wheel locks, the fold, and the hanger setup before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a heavy duty folding chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace. ADP does not pay for repairs.
Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty
Sunrise prints a Limited Lifetime term on the M6 frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips are outside that term. Coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the M6 weight capacity?
The Quickie M6 is rated at 650 lbs on Sunrise Medical Canada's specification table. Stay at or under that rating. If the person is near 650 lbs, tell us before paperwork starts.
Is the M6 a bariatric wheelchair?
The Quickie M6 is Sunrise's current heavy duty folding wheelchair. Sunrise's Canada page calls it a bariatric wheelchair with a 650 lb rating and seats from 22 to 30 inches. That is how Sunrise names the class.
M6 or Quickie 2?
The Quickie M6 is a 650 lb steel folder with a 22 to 30 inch seat. The Quickie 2 is a 7000-series aluminum folder with a 300 lb standard path and a 350 lb heavy-duty path. They are different chairs. The therapist names the frame after the assessment.
Does ADP cover a heavy duty wheelchair?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can fund a long-term manual wheelchair after an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assessment. Not every configuration sits on the same device row. We cannot promise that a specific person will be approved. Use the funding page before any order is placed.
Who qualifies for ADP on this chair?
You must be an Ontario resident with a valid Ontario health card and a disability that needs a mobility aid for six months or longer. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess you before anyone orders the chair. Income is not part of the test.
How does the 75 / 25 split work?
For eligible clients, ADP pays 75 percent of the approved price and the person pays 25 percent. People on Ontario Works, ODSP, or Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities can be covered at 100 percent of that approved price. Extra items that sit outside the ADP chart are billed separately.
What is the assessment process?
Book an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist. They confirm the need, trial equipment where they can, and complete the application with Westin as the ADP-registered vendor. We submit the form. Do not buy the chair first. A chair bought before approval is not reimbursed.
How long does ADP take?
The ministry says it aims to review a mobility application within eight weeks of receiving it. That is ADP's stated aim, not a Westin delivery date. After approval we order the Sunrise frame to the prescription and book a setup date.
Can I try an M6 before the order?
Westin keeps assessment and trial equipment for therapists to use. Call (905) 451-7743 or come into a Brampton or Toronto store and we will see what is on the floor. A floor chair may be another heavy duty folder, not an M6 in the exact width later built for you.
How should the seat width fit?
The therapist measures seated hip width and leaves a little room on each side. Sunrise lists 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30 inches on the M6 form. Seat depth is 18 to 22 inches. Those numbers come from the assessment.
Will this chair fold into a car?
The M6 frame folds. Sunrise lists a 53 lb chair. That is a two-person lift for most trunks. Plan on a van or a hatch if you can. The Canada spec table does not list a transit system for this model.
What happens if ADP declines the application?
ADP sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. We will sit with you and the therapist on the next step. Other routes such as March of Dimes Canada or Veterans Affairs Canada may still help.
