Description
The Axiom PXPL back is Ki Mobility's pediatric posterior-lateral wheelchair back support for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Ki forms the aluminum shell for smaller torsos, with fixed laterals and an included lumbar pad. Widths run 10 to 16 inches (25.4 to 40.6 cm) and heights 10 to 18 inches (25.4 to 45.7 cm). Ki rates it at 165 lbs (75 kg). This is a quote-only kids back, built after a seating assessment.
Ki writes the PXPL as the formed kids shell. DEX for Kids hardware is standard, with a lockout latch. A seating therapist names PXPL versus the adjustable Axiom PXAL or the contour-wing Axiom PXALCL before we order.
Who this back is for
The Axiom PXPL back fits a child whose therapist wants formed laterals already placed on the shell, not swing-away pads. Pair it with a kids Axiom cushion and a growth chair such as the Little Wave Clik or the Little Wave XP. Ki's brochure prints a configured example: a 12 inch Little Wave Clik with an Axiom for Kids PL back at 15.8 lbs (7.2 kg).
- Formed laterals and a lumbar pad
- 10 to 16 inch widths, 10 to 18 inch heights
- 165 lb (75 kg) rating
Growth, laterals, and DEX for Kids
The smart shell fits wheelchair widths plus or minus 1 inch. Hardware depth is 2 inches standard and 4 inches with the optional extension. Angle is plus or minus 20 degrees. Height adjustability is 3.3 inches. Foam thickness is 1 inch. The cover is breathable and wipeable. Formed laterals on the PXPL do not have the plus 2 / minus 1 inch pad travel that PXAL and PXALCL offer.
DEX for Kids is the standard mount. The brochure prints a fit of 3/4 inch to 1-1/8 inch tube diameter with no adaptors. A lockout latch is built in so backpacks and curious fingers are less likely to release the back. An audible click confirms it is locked. We do not invent a hardware picker.
Axiom PXPL Pediatric Back specifications
These figures are from Ki Mobility's current Axiom for Kids Backs card, brochure DCN1171.1, and the kids back owner's manual. The specification tab holds the stored values. We do not invent a size picker on this page.
Width 10 to 16 inches (25.4 to 40.6 cm). Height 10 to 18 inches (25.4 to 45.7 cm). Foam 1 inch (2.5 cm). Assembled weight with pediatric hardware 3.30 to 5.40 lb (1.5 to 2.4 kg). Weight capacity 165 lbs (75 kg). Transit tested to ANSI/RESNA WC-4 Section 20 as Ki prints it. ISO-16840 strength testing is also printed on the brochure.
The Axiom for Kids Backs owner's manual prints 24 months on the shell and foam and 6 months on removable covers for the original purchaser in North America.
How a PXPL is ordered
A seating therapist measures the child's trunk width and torso height and decides whether formed laterals are enough. Westin maps that to a 10 to 16 by 10 to 18 inch shell and DEX for Kids hardware that matches the chair canes. That work happens in a fitting, not on a product page.
Which Axiom wheelchair back fits
The Axiom PXPL back is the formed kids posterior-lateral shell. The Axiom PXAL adds a planar panel with fixed or swing-away laterals. The Axiom PXALCL adds contour lateral wings. Adult stock shells start at the Axiom PB Back. Matching kids seats are the Axiom PXP and Axiom PXSP. Pair the back with a Little Wave Clik, Arc, XP, or Flip, or with the live Rogue XP or Spark.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers this kids wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area once the shell is built. We bring it in, check the hardware against the chair canes, and show you the lockout latch before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see an Axiom for Kids back first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased backs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the back is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Frequently asked questions
What Size Kids Back Does A Child Need?
The Axiom PXPL back is ordered in widths from 10 to 16 inches and heights from 10 to 18 inches. A seating therapist measures trunk width and torso height. Do not guess from clothing size.
How Is The PXPL Different From The PXAL?
The Axiom PXPL back has formed laterals and a lumbar pad built into the shell. The Axiom PXAL back is a planar panel that can take fixed or swing-away laterals at the trunk or hips.
Does ADP Cover Wheelchair Back Supports?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the person. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
What Cane Diameters Does DEX For Kids Fit?
DEX for Kids on the Axiom for Kids brochure fits 3/4 inch to 1-1/8 inch tube diameter with no adaptors. Westin checks the Little Wave or other pediatric canes before we order.
What Is The Weight Limit For The Axiom PXPL Back?
The Axiom PXPL back is rated at 165 lbs (75 kg) on Ki's current card and brochure.
Can This Back Sit On A Little Wave Chair?
Yes, when the therapist measures both. Ki prints a 12 inch Little Wave Clik with an Axiom for Kids PL back as a 15.8 lb configured example. Westin also pairs PXPL shells with Arc, XP, Flip, Rogue XP, and Spark frames after the assessment.
How Long Is The Axiom For Kids Back Warranty?
The Axiom PXPL back carries 24 months on the shell and foam and 6 months on removable covers in the kids back owner's manual, for the original purchaser.
Can I See An Axiom For Kids Back In Brampton?
Westin Healthcare can show Axiom for Kids seating in the Brampton and Toronto stores and deliver across the GTA. Call (905) 451-7743 to check what is on the floor and to book an assessment.
