Description

The Zippie TS is Sunrise Medical's original pediatric tilt-in-space wheelchair. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not an off-the-shelf cart chair. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses first. Then Westin builds the frame, the seat, and the seating on Sunrise's order form.

Sunrise lists 45 degrees of traditional tilt at a fixed pivot, a 29 lb (13.2 kg) chair, and a 165 lb (75 kg) rating. The TS is sold as a folding or rigid aluminum frame. Seat width runs 10 to 18 inches. Seat depth runs 13 to 20 inches, with up to 2 inches of width growth and up to 5 inches of depth growth.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a child who needs tilt in space pediatric positioning, and whose therapist wants the original 45 degree Zippie tilt rather than IRIS rotation or a compact static tilt. Caregivers tilt from a foot-release actuator with no exposed cables.

If the therapist wants rotation around the child's centre of gravity and a higher capacity, start with the Zippie IRIS. If you need a 30 lb folder that sets at 10, 20, or 30 degrees, see the Zippie Sphynx. The adult sibling is the live Quickie IRIS.

  • Pediatric 45 degree tilt after the child's OT or PT assessment
  • Folding or rigid aluminum, 29 lbs (13.2 kg)
  • Up to 5 inches of seat-depth growth, transit option as Sunrise states it

Design and tilt

Traditional tilt on the TS means the seat moves around a fixed pivot, not around the child's centre of gravity. Sunrise lists that as 45 degrees. The foot-release tilt actuator is meant to keep cables out of the way.

The folding frame packs smaller for the car. The rigid frame has fewer moving parts and is the lighter feel. Growth is up to 2 inches of seat width and up to 5 inches of seat depth, with adjustable components as the child develops. Occupied transit is listed as yes. Use only the transit kit Sunrise approves.

Zippie TS specifications

These figures are for the Zippie TS Westin configures from Sunrise's current Canada page, model EIZ1A. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Seat width 10 to 18 inches. Seat depth 13 to 20 inches. Product width 18.25 to 24.25 inches. Front seat-to-floor 15.5 to 20 inches. Rear seat-to-floor 14 to 19 inches. Tilt 45 degrees. Back height fixed 19, 22, or 25 inches, or adjustable 16 to 22 or 19 to 25 inches. Back angle -30 to 5 degrees. Centre of gravity 0 inches. Frame aluminum, rigid or folding tilt. Capacity 165 lbs (75 kg). Chair weight 29 lbs (13.2 kg). Transit yes.

Warranty in the Zippie owner-manual family is lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items sit outside that term. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province.

How this chair is configured

Rigid or folding, seat size, back height, colour, seating, and transit are set on the Sunrise order form with the child's therapist. There is no single in-stock size. Westin submits the form after the assessment.

TS, Zippie IRIS, or Sphynx

The TS is Zippie's original 45 degree pediatric tilt. The Zippie IRIS is the rotation-in-space chair (40 or 55 degrees, 225 lb, optional XLOCK fold). The Sphynx is a static 10/20/30 degree tilt that folds into a compact-car trunk. Daily chairs without tilt are the X'CAPE, the Zone, and the GS.

The Quickie IRIS is the adult Category 5 rotation sibling. It is not a kids wheelchair. Do not mix the TS 45 degree pivot with IRIS rotation when you talk to the authorizer.

Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the assessment, the configuration, and the ADP submission are in place. We bring it in, check the tilt, and show you the wheel locks and the tilt release before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or school.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

Zippie owner manuals warrant the frame and cross-brace for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items sit outside that term. The term does not transfer to a later owner. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What Is A Tilt In Space Pediatric Wheelchair?

A tilt in space pediatric wheelchair tips the whole seat without changing the child's hip and knee angles. The Zippie TS does that with 45 degrees of traditional tilt at a fixed pivot, not with IRIS rotation.

Does ADP Cover Pediatric Wheelchairs In Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program covers pediatric wheelchairs for eligible clients. ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess first. We cannot promise that a given child will be approved.

How Is The TS Different From The Zippie IRIS?

The Zippie TS is a 45 degree fixed-pivot tilt, 29 lbs, 165 lb rating. The Zippie IRIS rotates around the child's centre of gravity, 40 or 55 degrees, 225 lb rating, optional XLOCK fold. The therapist picks the tilt type, not the website.

Does The Zippie TS Fold?

The Zippie TS is sold as a folding frame or a rigid frame. Sunrise lists one product weight of 29 lbs (13.2 kg) on the Canada table. The folding frame is the car-and-closet option.

How Does The TS Grow With A Child?

The Zippie TS grows up to 2 inches in seat width and up to 5 inches in seat depth. Adjustable components keep the child's position as that growth is used.

Is The TS Transit Approved?

Sunrise lists transit as yes on the Zippie TS. Occupied transit needs the Sunrise transit kit and the WC-19 supplement. Follow the vehicle and kit instructions.

What Seat Width Do I Need?

The Zippie TS seat width runs 10 to 18 inches. The child's therapist measures seated hip width. We will not guess a width from a photo.

TS Or Adult Quickie IRIS?

The Zippie TS is a kids 45 degree tilt. The Quickie IRIS is the adult Category 5 rotation chair with a 14 to 22 inch seat and a 300 or 400 lb rating. They are not substitutes.

What Is The Warranty?

Zippie owner manuals warrant the TS frame for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What Happens If ADP Declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal route. Do not take delivery of a custom chair on the assumption that a decline will reverse. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will walk through the letter with you and the child's therapist.
