Description

The Zippie Sphynx is Sunrise Medical's compact folding pediatric tilt wheelchair. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not an off-the-shelf cart chair. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses first. Then Westin builds the tilt setting, the seat, and the seating on Sunrise's order form.

Sunrise lists a 30 lb (13.6 kg) chair and a 250 lb (113 kg) rating. Tilt is static: set with tools at 10, 20, or 30 degrees. Recline is tool-free from 85 to 100 degrees. Seat width is 10, 12, 14, 16, or 18 inches. Seat depth runs 10 to 19 inches with 5 inches of built-in growth. The folded package is 34 by 25.5 by 16.75 inches.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a child who needs tilt in space pediatric support that a caregiver can fold into a compact-car trunk, and whose therapist is comfortable with a static tilt rather than a gas-strut rotation. Sunrise's own FAQ says the Sphynx is coded as a tilt wheelchair and functions like a stroller.

If the therapist wants 40 or 55 degrees of rotation around the child's centre of gravity, start with the Zippie IRIS. If you want the original 45 degree Zippie tilt, see the Zippie TS. The adult sibling is the live Quickie IRIS.

  • Pediatric static tilt after the child's OT or PT assessment
  • 10, 20, or 30 degree tilt plus 85 to 100 degree recline
  • 30 lbs (13.6 kg), WC-19 transit, 5 inches of depth growth

Tilt, recline, and the fold

Tilt on the Sphynx is fixed until someone uses tools to change it. Sunrise describes 10 degrees for a more upright child, 20 degrees as a middle setting, and 30 degrees when the therapist wants more gravity through the trunk. Recline is the daily change: 85, 90, 95, or 100 degrees without tools.

The one-step fold is the reason families pick this base. Sunrise prints 34 by 25.5 by 16.75 inches and says that package fits a compact-car trunk. Occupied transit is listed as yes, ANSI/RESNA WC-19, with a 250 lb user limit in the vehicle. Use only the transit kit Sunrise approves.

Standard seating is for lower clinical need. JAY cushions and Whitmyer head supports can be written on the same order. Upholstery colours on the current page are Green, Blue, Red, Black, and Pink. Canopy, rain cover, and underseat basket are called out as included on that page.

Zippie Sphynx specifications

These figures are for the Zippie Sphynx Westin configures from Sunrise's current Canada page, model EIZ22. The specification tab holds the stored values. Seat-to-floor and overall width are not on that table.

Seat width 10, 12, 14, 16, or 18 inches. Seat depth 10 to 19 inches, including 5 inches of depth growth. Tilt 10, 20, or 30 degrees. Recline 85, 90, 95, or 100 degrees. Folded size 34 by 25.5 by 16.75 inches. Capacity 250 lbs (113 kg). Chair weight 30 lbs (13.6 kg). Transit yes, WC-19.

Warranty in the Zippie owner-manual family is lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items sit outside that term. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province.

How this chair is configured

Tilt setting, seat width, seat depth, seating, colour, canopy, and transit are set on the Sunrise order form with the child's therapist. There is no single in-stock size. Westin submits the form after the assessment.

Sphynx, Zippie IRIS, or TS

The Sphynx is the compact static-tilt kids wheelchair. The Zippie IRIS is the rotation-in-space chair for a child who needs 40 or 55 degrees around the centre of gravity. The Zippie TS is the original 45 degree pivot tilt. Daily chairs without tilt are the X'CAPE, the Zone, and the GS. Early intervention strollers are the Voyage and the Xpress.

The Quickie IRIS is the adult Category 5 rotation sibling. It does not fold like a Sphynx and it is not a kids wheelchair.

Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the assessment, the configuration, and the ADP submission are in place. We bring it in, check the fold and the tilt setting, and show you the recline and the wheel locks before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or school.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

Zippie owner manuals warrant the frame and cross-brace for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items sit outside that term. The term does not transfer to a later owner. Sunrise's Canada pages note that printed coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Is The Zippie Sphynx A Wheelchair Or A Stroller?

Sunrise says the Zippie Sphynx is coded as a tilt wheelchair for insurance and functions and looks like a stroller. On this site it is a pediatric tilt wheelchair, not a shopping stroller.

What Is A Tilt In Space Pediatric Wheelchair?

A tilt in space pediatric wheelchair tips the whole seat. The Zippie Sphynx does that as a static tilt set at 10, 20, or 30 degrees. It is not an IRIS rotation chair and it is not a 45 degree TS pivot.

Does ADP Cover Pediatric Wheelchairs In Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program covers pediatric wheelchairs for eligible clients. ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess first. We cannot promise that a given child will be approved.

Does The Sphynx Fold Into A Car Trunk?

The Zippie Sphynx uses a one-step fold. Sunrise prints 34 by 25.5 by 16.75 inches and says that package fits a compact-car trunk. The chair weighs 30 lbs (13.6 kg).

Is The Sphynx Transit Approved?

Sunrise lists the Zippie Sphynx as crash tested and ANSI/RESNA WC-19 compliant, with a 250 lb (113 kg) user limit for occupied transit. Use the Sunrise transit kit and the WC-19 supplement.

How Does The Sphynx Grow?

The Zippie Sphynx seat depth runs 10 to 19 inches and includes 5 inches of built-in growth. Sunrise says that depth growth does not need spare parts. Seat width is ordered at 10, 12, 14, 16, or 18 inches.

Sphynx Or Zippie IRIS?

The Sphynx is a 30 lb static tilt that folds small. The Zippie IRIS is a rotation-in-space chair at 32 or 35.8 lbs with 40 or 55 degrees around the child's centre of gravity. The therapist picks the tilt type.

What Colours Can We Order?

Sunrise lists Sphynx upholstery in Green, Blue, Red, Black, and Pink. The canopy is called out on the current page as included.

What Is The Warranty?

Zippie owner manuals warrant the Sphynx frame for the life of the original purchaser, and Sunrise-made parts for one year. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What Happens If ADP Declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal route. Do not take delivery of a custom chair on the assumption that a decline will reverse. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will walk through the letter with you and the child's therapist.
