Description
The Drive STSM450 is a battery-powered sit-to-stand lift with a manual base. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care settings in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The sling is sold separately. Drive's owner manual sets the safe working load at 450 lbs (204 kg).
This is a sit-to-stand lift, not a full-body Hoyer. Drive's owner manual says the lift should not be used by persons who are not able to support the majority of their own weight, and that people who use the sling must be able to support the majority of their own weight. If the person cannot do that, look at a full-body floor lift such as the Hoyer Advance Electric or the Drive Levantar with manual base.
Who it is for
The STSM450 is for a person who still takes part in the stand. Drive's owner manual is plain: do not use this lift if the person cannot support the majority of their own weight. Drive also writes that the lift provides stable assistance in standing, transferring, and toileting, and that a transfer should be fully risk assessed and conducted safely over a short distance only.
Families usually call us when the person can still push through their legs and hold on, but a caregiver should not be lifting that weight by hand. It is not the right tool when the person is a passive, no-weight-bearing transfer. That is a full-body sling lift.
- Home care in Brampton and the GTA when the person can support the majority of their own weight
- Standing, transferring, and toileting assistance as Drive describes those tasks
- Users within Drive's 450 lb (204 kg) safe working load
How it lifts
A sit-to-stand lift uses a powered boom and a sit-to-stand sling to help the person rise from a seated surface toward standing. The person stands on the footplate, the knees rest on the adjustable pad, and the sling holds the torso. Drive's owner manual says not to raise the person to a full standing position while using the sling.
The STSM450 has a manual base: the caregiver opens and closes the legs with the shifter handle. Dual controls mean the hand pendant is not the only way to run the actuator. Drive fits an emergency stop and a manual emergency lowering. The battery charges on or off the lift. The LCD maintenance screen belongs to the STSP450 power-base sibling, which is not this SKU.
Drive STSM450 specifications
These figures are for Drive item STSM450 (manual base). The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's owner manual lists a safe working load of 450 lbs (204 kg), a product weight of 148 lbs (67 kg), 3 inch front casters and 4 inch rear braking casters, a maximum overall height of 1494 mm (58.8 in), a minimum overall height of 780 mm (30.7 in), a maximum external base length of 1069 mm (42.1 in), an external base width of 623-1061 mm (24.5-41.8 in), an internal base width of 534-972 mm (21.0-38.3 in), and a minimum base clearance of 69 mm (2.7 in).
Drive lists the charger as 100-240 VAC, a 24 V battery, enclosure protection IP24, and a duty cycle of 2 minutes on and 18 minutes off. Indoor use only.
Slings and spreader bar
The STSM450 uses a four-hook sit-to-stand attachment, not a 2-point or 6-point full-body spreader bar. Drive's owner manual says to use only the Drive DeVilbiss branded range of slings, and that slings from other manufacturers are not to be used with this lift. Drive's current sit-to-stand sling family is 13263E (Medium), 13263F (Large), and 13263H (Extra Large). The sling is sold separately.
See our sit-to-stand slings. If the assessment points to a toileting opening or a full-body sling instead, start at toileting slings or full-body slings and we will match the lift. A sit-to-stand sling is not a general-purpose full-body sling.
Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Yes. Westin Healthcare rents patient lifts. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. Same-day delivery is offered on the rental service. Purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Ask us whether a sit-to-stand lift is available on the rental fleet for your dates. If you later decide to buy, ask us about applying rental credit toward a purchase. The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service and warranty
When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Drive manufacturer warranty
Drive's owner manual for the PrimeCare STSM450 and STSP450, for the original owner, states 5 years on electrical and mechanical parts and components, 15 years on the structural steel frame, a limited lifetime warranty on welds (defined as 20 years from the date of production), and 1 year on the battery and all other parts. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Who does Drive say can use the STSM450?
Drive's owner manual says this lift should not be used by persons who are not able to support the majority of their own weight. People who use the sling must be able to support the majority of their own weight. A clinician or our staff can help you decide if a sit-to-stand lift is the right class.
What is the safe working load?
Drive lists 450 lbs (204 kg). Do not exceed that rating, including any accessory. Drive fits an audible and visual alert if the capacity is exceeded.
Is the sling included?
No. The sling is sold separately. Drive requires Drive DeVilbiss sit-to-stand slings. See our sit-to-stand slings category, or ask us to size 13263E, 13263F, or 13263H.
How is this different from a full-body Hoyer lift?
A full-body lift carries a person who cannot take their own weight. A sit-to-stand lift helps a person who can still support the majority of their own weight rise from a chair or bed. If you need a passive floor lift, see the Hoyer Advance Electric.
Does this model fold?
No. The STSM450 is a mast-and-base sit-to-stand lift. If you need a folding stand aid, see the Hoyer Journey.
Does it have emergency lowering?
Yes. Drive's owner manual lists an emergency stop and a manual emergency lowering on the actuator.
Can I rent a sit-to-stand lift first?
Westin Healthcare rents patient lifts. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. Ask us whether a sit-to-stand unit is on the rental fleet for your dates.
Is this the power-base model?
No. This page is STSM450, the manual-base lift. STSP450 is Drive's power-base sibling with the LCD maintenance screen. We can talk through which base you want.
What is the warranty?
Drive's owner manual states 5 years on electrical and mechanical parts, 15 years on the structural steel frame, limited lifetime on welds (20 years from production), and 1 year on the battery and other parts. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work.
How is a purchased lift delivered?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased lift.
