Description
The Handicare A450 is the 450 lb (204 kg) motor in Handicare's A-Series. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is built on C-Series technology, with a digital waterproof hand control, an antimicrobial strap, a 15 degree tilt, and Handicare's Quick Release System for swapping carry bars.
Savaria Patient Care still lists the A-Series as a current fixed motor. If you want the simpler pneumatic C-Series 450 lb motor, see the Handicare C450. If you need 625 lb in the same C-Series family, see the Handicare C625. For a lithium-ion fixed motor, see the Savaria M-Series.
Who it is for
This motor is for a person who needs a 450 lb overhead lift and wants the A-Series hand control and strap, not the older pneumatic C-Series controls. Facilities also use it when they want usage data and diagnostics on the handset, or when they want to keep an existing track and change only the motor.
- Home or facility rooms that can take a rated ceiling track
- Sites replacing a failed motor on an existing major-brand track
- Anyone who needs a 450 lb motor with a digital, waterproof hand control
How it lifts
The A450 is a fixed motor. It stays in the track. The strap lowers a carry bar. Loop slings attach to bull-horn or spring-latch connectors. The 15 degree tilt is there so the caregiver can square the motor over the person before raising. Manual Traverse means you walk the bar. Power Traverse w/ RTC adds powered travel and a return-to-charge dock. Load Cell and Wi-Fi options add weighing and data on the handset.
Handicare states that A-Series motors are designed to work with major manufacturers' existing ceiling track systems, so a failed motor does not automatically mean a new track. The installed safe working load is still the lowest rating among motor, track, bar, and sling. Westin's own team handles delivery and setup through the delivery section below.
Handicare A450 specifications
These figures are for the Handicare A-450 motor. Westin's listing SKU is A450. The Lift Style selector uses 324200 Manual Traverse, 324202 Manual Traverse w/ Load Cell and Wi-Fi, 324204 Power Traverse w/ RTC, and 324206 Power Traverse w/ RTC, Load Cell and Wi-Fi.
Handicare's A-Series copy lists a 450 lb (204 kg) safe working load for the A-450, a lifting range up to 96 inches (2438 mm), a unit weight of 9.5 to 10.6 kg, a flame-retardant ABS case, batteries at 24 VDC (two 12 V cells, 5 Ah), charger output 24 VDC at 1.33 A, a digital hand control rated IPx6 and IPx7, a 1 minute on / 9 minutes off duty cycle, and a service life of 10 years or 22,500 cycles. Emergency features named by Handicare include auto shut-off with an audible low-battery indicator, emergency stop, and power lowering.
The A625 is a different 625 lb A-Series motor. The motor on this listing is the A450.
Use Lift Style to pick how the motor travels and whether it includes a load cell and Wi-Fi:
- Manual Traverse
- Manual Traverse w/ Load Cell and Wi-Fi
- Power Traverse w/ RTC
- Power Traverse w/ RTC, Load Cell and Wi-Fi
Slings and spreader bar
Handicare lists bull-horn or spring-latch connectors in multiple sizes, plus the Quick Release System (QRS) so a caregiver can swap carry bars. That is a loop-sling attachment on a 2-point or 4-point bar, not a clip sit-to-stand system. Use slings the manufacturer approves for the bar on the motor, and never exceed the lowest SWL of the motor, track, bar, or sling.
Shop Westin's matching sling styles: universal slings, full-body slings, toileting slings, and divided-leg slings. Sit-to-stand slings belong on sit-to-stand floor lifts, not on this overhead bar.
Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this ceiling lift across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a ceiling lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Ceiling lifts are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the lift is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?
Yes. If you only need a lift for a recovery, or you want to live with a ceiling-lift setup before you buy, rent first. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub and the patient lift rentals page. Westin rents electric floor lifts and ceiling lift setups across Brampton and the GTA.
For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Handicare A-Series warranty
Handicare's published A-Series pages name service life (10 years or 22,500 cycles) and emergency functions. They do not print a simple year-count warranty on the current product card the way Savaria prints 3 years on the M-Series. Ask us for the warranty card that ships with your A450. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
Does funding cover a ceiling lift in Ontario?
Funding routes exist for patient lifts in Ontario, and eligibility depends on the person and the assessment. Westin Healthcare works with those programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before anyone starts paperwork.
What is the safe working load of the Handicare A450?
Handicare lists 450 lb (204 kg) for the A-450. The A-625 is a different 625 lb motor. The installed system is limited by the lowest rating among the motor, track, carry bar, and sling.
Can the A450 go on an existing track?
Handicare states that A-Series fixed motors are designed to work with major manufacturers' existing ceiling track systems. We still check the track rating and hardware before we quote a motor-only swap.
How is the A450 different from the C450?
Both are 450 lb fixed motors. The A450 adds a digital IPx6 / IPx7 hand control, an antimicrobial strap, a 15 degree tilt, QRS carry-bar swaps, and optional load cell and Wi-Fi. The C450 keeps the pneumatic C-Series controls.
What slings fit the A450?
Loop slings that match the bull-horn or spring-latch bar on the motor. QRS lets us swap bars. Use universal, full-body, toileting, or divided-leg slings rated for that bar. Do not put a sit-to-stand sling on this overhead motor.
Does the A450 include the ceiling track?
The page price is for the motor in the Lift Style you pick. Track, carry bar, and slings are planned with the room. Ask us for a layout before we book the install date.
What happens if the power goes out?
Handicare lists emergency stop and power lowering, plus auto shut-off with an audible low-battery indicator. Those features are for getting a person down safely, not for everyday use without a charged battery.
Can I rent a lift before I buy this motor?
Yes. Westin rents electric floor lifts and ceiling lift setups. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program.
How fast can a purchased A450 be set up in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased install.
What is the warranty on the A450?
The current Savaria A-Series product card does not print a year-count warranty the way the M-Series card prints 3 years. Ask us for the card that ships with the motor. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.
