Description

The Medcare Car Extractor is a 475 lb (215 kg) electric floor lift for getting a person in and out of a vehicle. Savaria Patient Care lists it as the Car Extractor, codes 450000 and 450045. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care sites in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This is not a room-to-room Handicare floor lift. If you need an aluminum lift for bed, chair, and gait-training transfers, see the Handicare Eva at 450 lb or 600 lb. If you need a compact Handicare lift that folds for a closet or a car, see the Handicare Carina 350 at 350 lb. If you need a 700 lb heavy-duty room lift, see the Handicare FGA-700. The Car Extractor is the Medcare lift with a 30 in straight boom and a low wheel base so the frame can go under a vehicle.

Who it is for

This lift is for a person who needs help in or out of a vehicle, inside 475 lb, when a long straight boom matters more than a room-to-room fold. Medcare names compact automobiles through fire and emergency vans. Medcare also names sitting or lying transfers. Proper use requires two caregivers. Two Medcare Care Stand Belts are required. If a foldable 350 lb home lift is enough, start with the Carina 350. If the transfers are inside the house, start with Eva or the FGA-700.

  • Homes, hospitals, and care sites that transfer at the car door
  • Emergency and transport teams that move a person from a vehicle onto a wheelchair or stretcher
  • A person with limited mobility or little weight-bearing ability, inside 475 lb
  • Sites that can staff two trained caregivers for every transfer

How it lifts

One caregiver runs the lift. The second caregiver stays with the person inside the vehicle. The first caregiver opens the base with the foot pedal, lowers the straight boom on the hand control until it clears the roof, and sets the padded 2-point hanger bar parallel with the shoulders. Lock the rear brakes before the belts go on.

Belt one sits around the back, under the arms, and buckles at the abdomen. Belt two sits under the thighs, above the knees, and buckles on top. Connect the shortest loops from both belts to the hanger bar. Raise the boom until the person clears the seat, rotate so the feet face the door, and roll the lift back while the second caregiver guides the head and feet. Place the person at once onto a wheelchair, stretcher, or similar. Stay on level ground and inside the wheel base. Medcare does not intend this lift for a long-distance carry.

Medcare Car Extractor specifications

These figures are for the current Car Extractor 475, not Eva, not Carina 350, not the FGA-700, and not the SPAN F350CT. Savaria and Medcare print 475 lb (215 kg) on both 450000 and 450045. Overall length is 47 in. The Handicare dimensions sheet and the operation manual print outside width 25 in closed and 43 in open, and inside width 20 in closed and 38 in open. Wheel-base height on 450000 is 4.5 in. Boom reach is 30 in. Lifting range is 40 in. Maximum height is 85 in.

Power is a removable 24 V sealed lead acid pack. A second pack can charge while the first is on the lift. The off-board charger needs 6-8 hours for a full charge (orange lamp charging, green lamp full). The wired hand control is Up and Down. Emergency lowering is on the actuator. Expected lifetime in the Medcare manual is 10 years.

Do not read the Eva 450/600 working loads, the Carina 350 fold, or the FGA-700 700 lb rating onto this page.

Model options

Use the Model selector to pick the factory code on your quote:

  • 450000: Car Extractor 475 (475 lb, standard chassis, 4.5 in wheel base)
  • 450045: Low Pro Car Extractor 475 (475 lb, Low Pro chassis)

This listing is quote-only. The lift, padded 2-point hanger bar, hand control, removable battery pack, charger, and attachable mesh bag come with the model you pick. Two Medcare Care Stand Belts are sold separately. Ask us for 450045 if the vehicle sits too low for the standard 4.5 in base. Ask us for hanger-bar stopper 400611 if you want the loops held on the hooks.

Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this lift across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our patient lift rental service; purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Floor patient lifts are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the lift is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?

Westin rents electric floor lifts for room transfers across Brampton and the GTA. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub and the patient lift rentals page. A rental package is a room lift and a sling. It is not this vehicle-extraction lift.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Which belts this lift fits

The Car Extractor uses two Medcare Care Stand Belts on a compact padded 2-point hanger bar. Loop straps seat on those hooks. Medcare says to use two belts: one behind the back under the arms, and one under the thighs. This is a loop attachment, not a clip sit-to-stand bar, and not the Eva two-point SlingBar or the FGA-700 four-point clip bar.

Belt sizes Medcare prints: Small 24-48 in waist (400078 / disposable 600078), Medium 30-54 in (400080 / 600080), Large 36-60 in (400082 / 600082), X-Large 42-66 in (400084 / 600084). We will confirm the two belts on your quote. A universal sling from another Handicare floor lift is not the attachment Medcare names for this boom.

If the transfers are inside the house rather than at the car, stay with the Eva, the Carina 350, or the FGA-700, and shop universal slings or full-body slings that match that lift's bar and working load.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Medcare Car Extractor warranty

The Medcare operation manual that ships with this family prints: frame and welds 5 years from the date of sale; parts 2 years; batteries, hand controls, and actuators 1 year; slings and belts 6 months from the date on the tag. The clause names Canada. Authorized Medcare parts keep that warranty in force. Westin Healthcare processes the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does funding cover a patient lift in Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts. Other routes can help when the person and the assessment fit, including ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship programs. Westin Healthcare works with those programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before anyone starts paperwork.

What is the safe working load of the Medcare Car Extractor?

475 lb (215 kg) on both 450000 and 450045. Stay inside that number for the person plus anything in the belts.

How is the Car Extractor different from the Handicare Eva?

Eva is Handicare's aluminum room floor lift at 450 lb or 600 lb, with a two-point SlingBar, for bed, chair, floor, and gait-training transfers. The Car Extractor is Medcare's vehicle lift at 475 lb, with a 30 in straight boom and two Care Stand Belts. Pick Eva for the room. Pick the Car Extractor for the car door.

How is the Car Extractor different from the Handicare Carina 350?

Carina 350 is Handicare's foldable 350 lb homecare floor lift. The Car Extractor does not fold, is 475 lb, and is built to reach into a vehicle. Pick Carina when you need the fold inside the house. Pick the Car Extractor when the transfer is in or out of a car, van, or emergency vehicle.

How is the Car Extractor different from the Handicare FGA-700?

The FGA-700 is a 700 lb heavy-duty room floor lift with a four-point clip bar. The Car Extractor is 475 lb, two-point loop belts, and a 30 in straight boom for vehicle access. They are not the same lift.

Does the Car Extractor need two caregivers?

Yes. Medcare prints that proper use requires two caregivers. One runs the lift. One stays with the person inside the vehicle. The Medcare manual excepts this model from its one-professional claim.

What belts fit the Car Extractor?

Two Medcare Care Stand Belts, loop attachment, on the padded 2-point hanger bar. One belt around the back under the arms. One belt under the thighs. We will match the waist size on your quote.

Does a belt or sling come with the lift?

No. Medcare ships the lift with the hanger bar, the hand control, the battery pack and charger, and the attachable mesh bag. The two Care Stand Belts are sold separately.

What does Low Pro mean on 450045?

450045 is the Low Pro Car Extractor 475. It uses the Low Pro chassis so the frame can go under a lower vehicle. 450000 prints a 4.5 in wheel base. Ask us for 450045 if that is too high for the vehicle you use.

Does the Car Extractor fold for storage?

No. This is not a Carina 350 fold. The boom is a straight extraction boom that stays on the mast.

Can I rent this vehicle lift before I buy?

Westin rents electric floor lifts for room transfers. See current packages on the rentals hub. A rental package is not this Car Extractor. If you later buy a lift, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program.

How fast can a purchased Car Extractor be set up in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased setup.

What is the warranty on the Car Extractor?

Medcare prints 5 years on the frame and welds, 2 years on listed parts, 1 year on the battery, hand control, and actuator, and 6 months on belts. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work. Details are on our service and repairs page.
