Description
The Sunrise Medical Quickie QS5 X is an ultralight folding wheelchair in heat-treated 7000-series aluminum. Westin Healthcare configures it to an occupational therapist or physiotherapist prescription and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program lists it under device code WM0002190. It is not an off-the-shelf chair that ships the same day you click buy.
Sunrise builds the QS5 X around FreeFold, an oval-tubed four-arm cross-brace that Sunrise says saves over 40% energy with every fold. The current Canada specification table lists a 300 lb rating, a usable transport weight from 16.1 lb on the Fixed-Front frame, and seat sizes from 13 to 20 inches wide and 13 to 20 inches deep. An ADP-registered therapist assessment comes first.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who needs a long-term ultralight folding wheelchair, who fits Sunrise's 300 lb rating and the 13 to 20 inch seat range, and who will use the chair for six months or longer. Therapists often pick the QS5 X when they want a 7000-series folding box frame that lifts lighter than the Quickie 2 and still folds for a car.
If the prescription needs a wider seat than 20 inches or a more modular frame family, look at the Quickie 2. If the therapist wants a simpler adjustable axle-plate folder, see the Quickie QXi. The withdrawn Xenon 2 is a different chair. This chair is the QS5 X.
- A folding ultralight built to prescription
- Sunrise's FreeFold cross-brace and 300 lb rating
- Someone who can self-propel, or who may be pushed
Design and build
The QS5 X uses a heat-treated 7000-series aluminum box frame. The oval four-arm cross-brace is how Sunrise gets a stiffer ride on a folding chair and a lighter fold. An optional Fold-n-Lock latch holds the chair closed for a lift. Optional twin LED lights sit on the caster area and come off to charge.
Two front ends sit on the July 2025 Canada order form: Swing-Away hangers, or a Fixed-Front frame at 75 or 85 degrees. Transit hardware that meets ISO 7176-19 is on that form. Rear wheels come off so the usable transport weight drops to the figure Sunrise prints for that front end.
- Folding 7000-series aluminum, model EIF7
- FreeFold four-arm cross-brace
- Swing-Away or Fixed-Front on the Sunrise form
- Centre of gravity 1 to 3 inches
- Transit option on the Canada order form
Quickie QS5 X specifications
These figures are for the Quickie QS5 X on Sunrise Medical Canada's current specification table, the July 2025 Canada order form, and the July 2025 brochure. The specification tab holds the stored values. Do not mix them with the Quickie 2 or with the withdrawn Xenon 2.
Seat width 13 to 20 inches. Seat depth 13 to 20 inches. Front seat-to-floor 14 to 22 inches. Rear seat-to-floor 14 to 20 inches. Back height 10 to 20 inches. Back angle 80 to 105 degrees. Swing-Away frame angles 60, 70, or 80 degrees. Fixed-Front 75 or 85 degrees. Centre of gravity 1 to 3 inches. Weight capacity 300 lbs (136 kg). Chair weight from 22.3 lbs on Swing-Away and from 21.8 lbs on Fixed-Front, on a 16 by 16 inch setup with back upholstery, side guards, and wheel locks. Usable transport weight from 16.5 lbs (Swing-Away) or 16.1 lbs (Fixed-Front) after hangers, armrests, rear wheels, and seating come off.
Warranty for the original purchaser is Sunrise's Limited Lifetime term on the frame and cross-brace, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items such as tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips sit outside that term. Sunrise notes that coverage can vary by province.
Size and configuration
The QS5 X is built to the assessment, not pulled off a shelf as a finished everyday cart item. Westin records seat width, seat depth, front end, back, wheels, and colour from the therapist's measurements and the Sunrise order form. Those choices do not turn the chair into a next-day cart item.
A Category 3 type folding chair has large rear wheels so the person can self-propel. It is not a transport chair.
QS5 X or another Quickie folding chair
The QS5 X is Sunrise Canada's current 7000-series folding ultralight. The Quickie 2 is the wider, more modular folding family (standard seats to 24 inches, a 350 lb heavy-duty path). The Quickie QXi is the simpler adjustable-axle folder. The Quickie QX is the Category 2 sister with a fixed axle. The Quickie M6 is the 650 lb steel folder, not an ultralight.
If the therapist wants a current rigid instead, start with the Quickie Nitrum or the Quickie 5R. The withdrawn Xenon 2 is no longer a new-order chair.
Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario
This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the prescription is built. We bring it in, unfold it, and show you the wheel locks, the fold, and the hanger setup before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a folding ultralight first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace. ADP does not pay for repairs.
Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty
Sunrise prints a Limited Lifetime term on the QS5 X frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips are outside that term. Coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the QS5 X weigh?
The Quickie QS5 X lists from 22.3 lbs on the Swing-Away frame and from 21.8 lbs on the Fixed-Front frame, on a 16 by 16 inch setup with back upholstery, side guards, and wheel locks. Usable transport weight is from 16.5 lbs or 16.1 lbs after hangers, armrests, rear wheels, and seating come off.
Does ADP cover a folding wheelchair?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can fund a long-term manual wheelchair after an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assessment. The QS5 X is listed as WM0002190. We cannot promise that a specific person will be approved. Use the funding page before any order is placed.
QS5 X or Quickie 2?
The Quickie QS5 X is the current 7000-series folding ultralight with FreeFold and a 13 to 20 inch seat. The Quickie 2 is the more modular family with a wider seat range and a 350 lb heavy-duty path. The therapist names the frame after the assessment.
Will the QS5 X fold into a car?
The Quickie QS5 X is a folding frame. Sunrise prints a usable transport weight from 16.1 lbs on Fixed-Front and from 16.5 lbs on Swing-Away after the easy-off pieces come off. We can show you the fold at delivery. The chair is not a car seat unless the transit option is on the order and the vehicle is set up for it.
Who qualifies for ADP on this chair?
You must be an Ontario resident with a valid Ontario health card and a disability that needs a mobility aid for six months or longer. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess you before anyone orders the chair. Income is not part of the test.
How does the 75 / 25 split work?
For eligible clients, ADP pays 75 percent of the approved price and the person pays 25 percent. People on Ontario Works, ODSP, or Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities can be covered at 100 percent of that approved price. Extra items that sit outside the ADP chart are billed separately.
What is the assessment process?
Book an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist. They confirm the need, trial equipment where they can, and complete the application with Westin as the ADP-registered vendor. We submit the form. Do not buy the chair first. A chair bought before approval is not reimbursed.
How long does ADP take?
The ministry says it aims to review a mobility application within eight weeks of receiving it. That is ADP's stated aim, not a Westin delivery date. After approval we order the Sunrise frame to the prescription and book a setup date.
Can I try a QS5 X before the order?
Westin keeps assessment and trial equipment for therapists to use. Call (905) 451-7743 or come into a Brampton or Toronto store and we will see what is on the floor. A trial chair may not be the same colour or size as the chair that is later built for you.
How should the seat width fit?
The therapist measures seated hip width and leaves a little room on each side. Sunrise lists 13 to 20 inches on the QS5 X form. Seat depth is 13 to 20 inches. Those numbers come from the assessment.
What is the weight capacity?
Sunrise's Canada specification table and the July 2025 brochure print 300 lbs (136 kg) for the Quickie QS5 X. Stay at or under that rating. Some wheel options on the form carry a lower limit. Tell us before paperwork starts if the person is near 300 lbs.
What happens if ADP declines the application?
ADP sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. We will sit with you and the therapist on the next step. Other routes such as March of Dimes Canada or Veterans Affairs Canada may still help.
