HealthCraft SuperPole Bariatric

The HealthCraft SuperPole bariatric (SP-HD) is HealthCraft's floor to ceiling grab pole without a SuperBar, made in Ottawa, Ontario, and rated 450 lb (204 kg). Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes across the Greater Toronto Area. It is a jackscrew tension pole for a 93-99 in (2362-2515 mm) ceiling.

This is the pole only. If you want the 16 in SuperBar on the same pole, use the HealthCraft SuperPole with SuperBar bariatric. HealthCraft also sells a SuperBar Add-On Kit if you start with this pole and add the bar later.

Who this SuperPole is for

The HealthCraft SuperPole bariatric is for a person who wants a floor to ceiling grab pole they can hold with both hands on the vertical grip, stays at or under HealthCraft's 450 lb (204 kg) rating, and has a 93-99 in ceiling HealthCraft will accept. Families here usually call when they want a pole beside the bed, toilet, or chair and do not need the pivoting SuperBar yet.

Fit and ceiling height

HealthCraft prints a 1.50 in (38 mm) alloy-steel pole, a 20 in (508 mm) top plate, and a 5 in (127 mm) base plate. Finish is anti-microbial white powder coat. The grip is latex-free PVC foam. HealthCraft prints a limited lifetime warranty and says the product is not intended for outdoor use.

The stored spec that says Weight Capacity = Standard 300 lb is the SP-S line, not this SP-HD pole. HealthCraft rates SuperPole bariatric at 450 lb (204 kg). The 300 lb SuperPole is SP-S.

HealthCraft SuperPole 101: do not install under a radiant ceiling, on a sloped floor, or on loose rugs, and do not proceed if you do not know what is above the ceiling. Ceilings under 93 in need a HealthCraft custom cut. Cutting the pole yourself voids the warranty.

Installation, as HealthCraft prints it

The SuperPole is a jackscrew tension mount between a structurally sound floor and ceiling. HealthCraft's current SuperPole FAQ: the ceiling top plate must extend across at least one ceiling beam, and the SuperPole bariatric ceiling top plate must be secured to the ceiling. Check the tension monthly. Rubber pads on the plate are what HealthCraft tested on stippled ceilings.

HealthCraft SuperPole 101: place the pole under one joist, or between two joists with the plate under both. An angled ceiling needs HealthCraft's Angled Ceiling Plate, which is screwed to a joist. HealthCraft also requires screws when a power wheelchair may strike the pole. Follow the HealthCraft instruction sheet in the carton. We follow that sheet when we install the pole.

HealthCraft's Uni-Fit Extender raises a standard SuperPole from 93-99 in to 100-120 in (2540-3048 mm). HealthCraft prints that Uni-Fit cannot be used with SuperPole HD. For a 450 lb user and a ceiling over 99 in, HealthCraft's next product is a floor-mounted Advantage Rail or Advantage Pole.

Pole only or SuperBar

This page is the SuperPole only. Use Choose Weigh Capacity only if you need the 300 lb SuperPole (SP-S) instead of this 450 lb SuperPole (SP-HD). The HealthCraft SuperPole with SuperBar bariatric is the same HD pole with the 16 in SuperBar already on it. The HealthCraft Advantage Pole bariatric is the floor-mounted pole when the ceiling will not take a SuperPole.

SuperPole or a bed rail assist pole

The HealthCraft SuperPole is a floor to ceiling grab pole. HealthCraft SuperPole 101 lists bedside as a common placement. It is not a rail that clips to a mattress, and it is not a wall grab bar. A wall bar such as the HealthCraft Easy Mount knurled needs a stud or HealthCraft's own hollow-wall anchor.

Funding help for bathroom safety equipment in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund bathroom safety equipment, so plan around other routes. Westin's own team delivers this SuperPole across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. When we install it, we follow the HealthCraft sheet: find the joists, set the jackscrew, check the tension, and secure the bariatric ceiling plate the way HealthCraft prints it.
