Description
The Sophia 2 is Orthex Canada Inc.'s two-position orthopedic adjustable bed, sold here as the Sophia 2 Premium Homecare Bed. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The wireless remote raises the head section, raises the foot section, and adds up to 4 inches of lumbar support. Dual vibro-massage and under-bed lighting are on the same remote.
This is a residential adjustable base on legs, not a hi-low hospital frame. The sleep deck stays at about 12 inches without a mattress. Twin XL is 38 by 80 inches and is rated to 800 lbs. Queen is 60 by 80 inches and is rated to 900 lbs. A mattress, side rails, and a headboard or footboard are not in this listing.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a person who wants a home-looking adjustable bed for reading, watching television, sleeping with the head raised, or resting with the feet up, and who does not need the whole deck to rise and fall for transfers. Families usually call us when a regular bed has become uncomfortable, when reflux or snoring is easier with the head raised, or when they want lumbar support and massage in a bedroom that should not look like a ward.
If the person needs the whole bed to raise and lower for safer sit-to-stand or caregiver height, see the Harmony hi-low bed. If you need a traditional full-electric hospital frame with height, rails, and a medical mattress in one package, start with the Drive Delta 1000. Another residential homecare frame with a 10 to 25 inch height range is the Harmony 8199 home care bed.
- Home care, where the bed has to look at home in a bedroom and still move the head, foot, and lumbar from a remote
- Anyone who wants a Canadian-made adjustable base with lithium battery backup and a lifetime frame warranty
- Anyone who does not need powered height, Trendelenburg, or a 36 by 80 inch hospital deck
What you get
The Sophia 2 is a two-position adjustable base. Two-position here means independent head and foot movement. The third motor is the lumbar lift. Orthex's current owner manual ships the base with a wireless remote, two mattress retainers, a power supply, a power cord, and a lithium battery pack. The remote uses two AAA batteries. Hold FLAT for two seconds to return the deck to level.
Westin's listing on this URL is the Orthex Sophia 2 base. It is not a mattress package and it is not a rail package. Ask us to add Orthex side rails, the pale grey headboard and footboard kit, or a mattress that can flex with an adjustable base before we book delivery.
- Wireless backlit remote for head, foot, lumbar, dual vibro-massage, under-bed lighting, and FLAT
- Three motors on a reinforced frame that stands on legs
- Water-resistant grey-mix platform cover
- Lithium battery backup included, so essential functions still work in an outage (Orthex lists up to 30 cycles on a full charge)
- Dual USB ports and USB-C charging ports
- Under-bed lighting
- No box spring. The platform can stand on its own legs or sit inside many compatible existing bed frames
- Headboard-bracket and side-rail anchor points for the official Orthex kits
The Sophia 2 does not raise or lower the whole deck. It does not do Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg. Those functions belong to other beds in the Orthex Sophia line, which we do not list on this URL. If the power is out and the battery pack is charged, the remote still moves the base. If the battery is empty, the bed stays in the last position.
Sophia 2 Premium Homecare Bed specifications
These figures are for the current Orthex Sophia 2 orthopedic adjustable bed, the two-position base this page sells. The specification tab holds the stored values. Orthex's current owner manual and the official product page list a Twin XL of 38 by 80 by 12 inches at 800 lbs and 140 lbs product weight, and a Queen of 60 by 80 by 12 inches at 900 lbs and 200 lbs product weight. Split King is two Twin XL bases side by side.
Head travel is up to 68 degrees. Foot elevation is up to 9 inches. Lumbar lift is up to 4 inches. Under-bed clearance is 6 inches. Flat height without a mattress is 12 inches. There is no powered height range. The electrical supply in the owner manual is AC 100 to 240 V, 50/60 Hz, 1.6 A, with a DC 24 V, 2 A output.
Warranty for a base bought from an authorized Orthex retailer is 3 years from the date of purchase on electrical and electronic components, and lifetime from the date of purchase on the structure (frame). If Orthex approves the claim, it replaces the base with the same model or its equivalent, or it may repair or replace parts. Proof of purchase is required.
Rails, mattress, and bed ends
This listing is the Sophia 2 adjustable base. There is no rail, mattress, or size selector on the order. Orthex sells matching accessories separately. Ask us to add them when you order, or we can set that up when we book delivery.
Side rails
Orthex lists three official rail kits for this base:
- Fixed side-rails, black steel, 16.5 by 20 inches
- Retractable short side-rails, half length, locking, 28 by 22 inches
- Retractable long side-rails, full length, locking, 58 by 22 inches
Rails help a person sit up or stay aware of the edge of the bed. They are not a restraint. If you are not sure which style a therapist asked for, call (905) 451-7743 before you order.
Mattress
Size the mattress to the deck you will run: Twin XL 38 by 80 inches, or Queen 60 by 80 inches. Orthex says foam, latex, and flexible hybrid mattresses are the usual fit, and that a box spring is not used. A stiff innerspring that cannot bend will fight the motors. Orthex's own Sensia Waterproof and Sensia Bamboo mattresses are built for these bases. If you are not sure which surface you need, call (905) 451-7743.
Headboard and footboard
Orthex sells a removable headboard and footboard kit with a waterproof pale grey mix cover. The official headboard is 30 inches high and 4 inches thick. The official footboard is 20 inches high and 4 inches thick. Many residential headboards can also be used, depending on the room and the brackets.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?
Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.
Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Orthex manufacturer warranty
Orthex Canada Inc. warrants this adjustable base, from the date of purchase, for 3 years against electrical and electronic issues and for life on the structure (frame). If Orthex approves the deficiency, the base is replaced by the same model or its equivalent, or Orthex may repair or replace parts. Claims go to Orthex with proof of purchase from an authorized retailer. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does OHIP cover hospital beds?
No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.
Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
What is the difference between a full-electric hospital bed and this two-position base?
A full-electric hospital bed usually moves the head, the foot, and the height of the whole deck. The Sophia 2 moves the head, the foot, and the lumbar support. It does not change height. If you need the deck to rise and fall for transfers, ask us about a hi-low hospital bed instead.
What mattress fits the Sophia 2?
Fit the mattress to the deck: Twin XL 38 by 80 inches, or Queen 60 by 80 inches. Orthex recommends a foam, latex, or flexible hybrid mattress that can bend with the base. A box spring is not used. Call (905) 451-7743 if you want us to match a surface to the frame.
Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?
Yes. If you only need a hospital-style bed for a recovery, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month and include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. Current packages are on the hospital bed rentals page. This Sophia 2 listing is a purchase adjustable base, not the rental frame.
How fast can this bed be delivered in the GTA?
Purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date. Same-day delivery is offered through the hospital bed rental service, not on this sale listing. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works.
What happens if the power goes out?
The Sophia 2 includes a lithium battery pack. Orthex says the backup engages automatically and can run up to 30 cycles on a full charge, so you can flatten the bed or change position during an outage. If the pack is empty, the bed stays where it was.
What is the weight capacity?
Orthex rates the Twin XL at 800 lbs (362 kg) and the Queen at 900 lbs (408 kg). That rating is for the people and the mattress on the base. Confirm the size you are ordering before you rely on the Queen number.
What is the warranty?
Orthex Canada Inc. warrants the electrical and electronic parts for 3 years from the date of purchase and the frame structure for life. Approved claims are replaced with the same model or its equivalent, or repaired. We open the claim with you.
What is included?
The Sophia 2 adjustable base, wireless remote, two retainers, power supply, power cord, and lithium battery pack. A mattress, side rails, and the headboard/footboard kit are sold separately. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets up across Brampton and the GTA.
Does this bed raise and lower like a hospital bed?
No. The Sophia 2 stays at a 12 inch flat height. The remote moves the head, the foot, and the lumbar support only. For a bed that changes height, see the Harmony hi-low bed or the Drive Delta 1000.
Can I add side rails or a headboard?
Yes. Orthex lists fixed rails, retractable short rails, retractable long rails, and a pale grey removable headboard and footboard kit. None of those kits is preselected on this order. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will add the ones you need.
