Description
The Handicare MiniLift is a powered sit-to-stand lift. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care settings in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The ThoraxSling is sold separately. Choose Model sets a MiniLift160 with a manual or electrical base, with or without low legs (350 lb / 160 kg), or the MiniLift200 (440 lb / 200 kg).
This is an active sit-to-stand lift, not a passive full-body Hoyer. Direct Healthcare Group says MiniLift160 assists the user when rising from sitting to standing, and that with the right accessories the user is supported under the feet, at the front of the lower legs, and behind the back. The official datasheet says the construction safely moves the user forwards and upwards in a natural movement pattern and exercises the leg muscles and balance. If the person cannot take part, see the Hoyer Advance Electric.
Who it is for
The MiniLift is for a person who can still rise with help and use a sit-to-stand vest. DHG describes it as a mobile sit-to-stand lift for users with reduced function, used with a specially adapted lifting vest. The MiniLift200 page adds that it is for users who have a certain degree of stability when standing. Recommended user height on both 160 and 200 is 1400-2000 mm (55.1-78.7 in).
Savaria lists indoor and outdoor use, and says the lift can assist a person getting up from wherever they are seated. Low-leg versions are for lower beds.
- Home or facility sit-to-stand when the person can take part
- Toileting and standing practice with a ThoraxSling, as DHG lists those tasks
- Users within 350 lb (160 kg) on MiniLift160, or 440 lb (200 kg) on MiniLift200
How it lifts
An electric actuator raises a lift arm. The person stands on a low anti-slip footplate, the lower legs rest on a soft adjustable support, and the ThoraxSling holds the back (or back and seat on the seat-support vest). DHG says this is a unique sit-to-stand pattern: forward and up, not a straight vertical hoist.
MiniLift160EM opens the base by hand (2-button hand control). MiniLift160EE opens the base electrically (4-button hand control). Both have manual and electrical emergency lowering and an electrical emergency stop on the control box. Savaria says the footplate can be removed so MiniLift can be used as an assistive walking device. MiniLift160 folds for length (official folded length 43.2 in).
Handicare MiniLift specifications
These figures are for DHG's MiniLift160 datasheet and the MiniLift200 product table. The specification tab holds the stored values. Choose Model sets which row applies.
MiniLift160 EM/EE (350 lb / 160 kg): height 38.6 in, length 36.2 in, folded length 43.2 in, base outer 26.3-37.8 in, base inner 20.9-30.4 in, weight 89.3 lb, footplate height 2.3 in, lifting speed 1.4 in/s without load, powder-coated steel. Standard-leg casters 3.9 in; low-leg front casters 2.8 in.
MiniLift200 (440 lb / 200 kg): electrical base, recommended user height 55.1-78.7 in, total weight 49 kg (108 lb) on the DHG table. Savaria also lists length 38.6 in, height 39.4 in, and a 3.7 in footplate on the 200.
Slings and spreader bar
The MiniLift does not use a 4-point or 6-point full-body spreader bar. DHG's official vest is the ThoraxSling, "a specially adapted sit-to-stand vest" for MiniLift160 and MiniLift200. It is offered with or without seat support, and in polyester, wipeable, and disposable fabrics. DHG also lists CalfStrap and SlingBarWrap MiniLift.
The vest is sold separately. See our sit-to-stand slings. DHG says ThoraxSling also facilitates toileting. For a full-body hoist sling on a different lift, start at full-body slings.
Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Frequently asked questions
Who does the manufacturer say can use a MiniLift?
DHG says it assists a user with reduced function when rising from sitting to standing, with support under the feet, at the lower legs, and behind the back. The 200 is described for users who have a certain degree of stability when standing. It is not a passive full-body lift.
What is the safe working load?
MiniLift160 is 350 lb (160 kg). MiniLift200 is 440 lb (200 kg). Choose Model sets which rating you are buying. The stored 440 lb figure is only the 200.
Is the sling included?
No. DHG's official vest is the ThoraxSling. It is sold separately. See our sit-to-stand slings category.
What do the Choose Model options mean?
MANUAL BASE and ELECTRICAL BASE are MiniLift160 EM and EE. LOW LEGS is the low-leg 160 for lower beds. ELECTRICAL BASE WITH 440 LBS WEIGHT CAPACITY is MiniLift200.
Does it have emergency lowering?
Yes. DHG lists manual and electrical emergency lowering on MiniLift160 and MiniLift200, plus an electrical emergency stop on the control box.
How is this different from the ReTurn?
The ReTurn is a manual rising ladder. The MiniLift is a powered sit-to-stand lift used with a ThoraxSling. If you want a manual aid, see the Handicare ReTurn.
Can I rent a sit-to-stand lift first?
Westin Healthcare rents patient lifts. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. Ask us whether a sit-to-stand unit is on the rental fleet for your dates.
Can the footplate come off?
Savaria says the low anti-slip footplate can be removed so MiniLift can be used as an assistive walking device.
How is a purchased lift delivered?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased lift.
