Description

The Ki Mobility Tyke is an early intervention wheelchair built as a tilting mobility base for R82 x:panda shape seating. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not an off-the-shelf cart chair. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses first. Then Westin builds the Tyke size, the facing, and the transit choice on Ki's Tyke form. The x:panda seat is a separate seating order.

Ki lists 35 degrees of posterior dynamic tilt on Size 1 and Size 2. Capacity is 74 lbs (33.5 kg) on both sizes. Size 1 transports at 27 lbs (12.25 kg) with seating removed. Size 2 transports at 31 lbs (14 kg) with seating removed. Ki's current Tyke page lists WC-19 transit as yes when the transit option is on the order. Reverse (face-to-face) seating is Size 1 with x:panda infant seating only.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a young child whose therapist wants an early intervention wheelchair that tilts, folds flat, and takes the R82 x:panda shape seat. Ki describes Tyke as having the benefits of a pediatric mobility stroller with wheelchair transit hardware. Caregivers tilt through the 35 degree range for rest, interaction, and activity. Unfolding can be done with one hand. The handle is angle-adjustable.

If the child has outgrown a 74 lb early intervention base and needs a 0 to 45 degree wheelchair with a stroller fold, start with the Little Wave Flip, including Flip for x:panda when that seat stays on the order. Daily folding without tilt is the live Ki Mobility Spark. A compact Zippie tilt already live on this site is the Zippie Sphynx.

  • Early intervention 35 degree tilt after the child's OT or PT assessment
  • Size 1 or Size 2 Tyke base for x:panda seating, 74 lb rating
  • Flat fold, optional reverse on Size 1 infant, transit as Ki states it

Tilt, fold, and x:panda

Tilt on the Tyke is 35 degrees of posterior dynamic tilt on both sizes. Ki's feature tour calls the motion easy to tilt for rest, interaction, activities, and positioning. An integrated tilt lock-out is listed as an option. Adjustable rear suspension is on the current page for a smoother ride when the surface changes.

The flat fold is compact. Ki says unfolding can be done single-handed. The owner's manual has the caregiver pull the fold-release handles and fold the push bar over the seat. Rear wheels pull off on quick-release axles when the package needs to go smaller. Front locking casters and an attendant wheel lock are listed for peace of mind.

The Tyke adaptor plate holds the R82 x:panda shape seat so the seating can come off the base. Ki and Etac print Infant, Simple, and Advanced x:panda packages. Reverse configuration (child facing the parent) is available only with Tyke Size 1 and x:panda infant seating. The Tyke order form does not include the seat, armrests, or footrests. Colour on that form is black. Ki's current page shows Shadow Black.

Tyke sizes

Ki sells two Tyke sizes. They are written on the order, not picked as a storefront variant.

  • Size 1, forward facing: frame width 17.5 inches (44.5 cm), seat width 15.5 inches (39.5 cm), seat depth 4.25 to 10.25 inches (11 to 26 cm), transport 27 lbs (12.25 kg).
  • Size 1, reverse facing: same Size 1 frame. Infant x:panda only. Ki requires omit transit on reverse facing.
  • Size 2, forward facing: frame width 20 inches (51 cm), seat width 18 inches (45.5 cm), seat depth 6.25 to 14.25 inches (16 to 36 cm), transport 31 lbs (14 kg). No reverse Size 2 on the current form.

Seat frame height is 17 inches (43 cm) on both sizes. Ki says x:panda seating results in a seat height about 4 inches greater than that frame height. Centre-of-gravity positions on the form follow the x:panda seat depth (Size 1 position 1 is 4.25 to 9.5 inches; position 2 is 9.75 to 10.25 inches. Size 2 position 1 is 6.25 to 9.5 inches; position 2 is 9.75 to 14.25 inches).

Ki Mobility Tyke specifications

These figures are for the Tyke Westin configures from Ki Mobility's current product page, the R82 x:panda brochure that includes the Tyke base, and the current Tyke for x:panda order form. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Tilt 35 degrees on Size 1 and Size 2. Capacity 74 lbs (33.5 kg) both sizes. Seat frame height 17 inches (43 cm). Transport weights are with the seating system removed: Size 1 27 lbs (12.25 kg), Size 2 31 lbs (14 kg). WC-19 listed as yes on Ki's spec table when transit is selected. Reverse facing requires omit transit. Colour is black / Shadow Black.

Ki's Tyke owner's manual warrants the frame and quick-release axles for 5 years for the original purchaser, and other Ki-made parts for one year from first consumer purchase. The expected life of the frame is five years. Wear items sit outside that term. The printed warranty applies in the USA; Ki tells the buyer to check with the supplier for coverage outside that print. Westin handles the claim in Ontario.

How this chair is configured

Tyke size, forward or reverse (Size 1 infant only), transit or omit transit, and any vent or oxygen mount are set on Ki's Tyke form with the child's therapist. The x:panda seat size and package are a separate seating order. There is no single in-stock size. Westin submits the forms after the assessment.

Tyke, Little Wave Flip, Spark, or Zippie early mobility

The Tyke is Ki's early intervention 35 degree base for x:panda seating at a 74 lb rating. The Little Wave Flip is the next Ki tilt when the child needs 0 to 45 degrees and a 165 lb wheelchair, or Flip for x:panda when that seat stays and the rating moves to 129 lbs. The Little Wave Arc is the lightest folding Ki pediatric tilt. The Little Wave Clik and the Little Wave XP are the growth chairs without this stroller-base tilt.

The live Ki Mobility Spark is the Category 3 folding pediatric chair that accepts a prescribed seating system. It is not an early intervention tilt base. The live Ki Mobility Rogue XP is the active pediatric rigid.

Zippie pages already live on this site: the Zippie Sphynx is the compact static-tilt kids wheelchair. The Zippie IRIS is the rotation-in-space chair. The Zippie TS is the original 45 degree pediatric tilt. Early intervention Zippie strollers are the Zippie Voyage and the Zippie Xpress. The therapist picks the base. Do not order a Tyke when the prescription is a Flip or a Zippie Voyage.

Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the assessment, the configuration, and the ADP submission are in place. We bring it in, check the fold and the 35 degree tilt, and show you the wheel locks, the adaptor plate, and how the x:panda seat comes on and off before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or school.

Ki Mobility manufacturer warranty

Ki's Tyke owner's manual warrants the frame and quick-release axles for 5 years for the original purchaser, and other Ki-made parts for one year from first consumer purchase. The expected life of the frame is five years. Wear items (upholstery, tires, armrest pads, tubes, armrests, and push-handle grips) sit outside that term. The term does not transfer if the base is modified in a way that causes a failure, or if the serial tag is removed. The printed book applies in the USA and tells the buyer to ask the supplier about coverage elsewhere. Westin handles the claim in Ontario. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What Is An Early Intervention Wheelchair?

An early intervention wheelchair is a small tilting mobility base for a young child, often used with a prescribed seating system. The Ki Mobility Tyke is that kind of base: 35 degrees of tilt, Size 1 or Size 2, built for R82 x:panda shape seating, at a 74 lb (33.5 kg) rating.

Does ADP Cover Pediatric Wheelchairs In Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program covers pediatric wheelchairs for eligible clients, and ontario.ca also lists pediatric strollers among mobility aids ADP can help fund. ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price. The child's ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess first. We cannot promise that a given child will be approved.

Does The Tyke Fold For The Car?

The Ki Mobility Tyke uses a flat folding design. Ki says unfolding can be done single-handed. The owner's manual has the caregiver pull the fold-release handles and fold the push bar over the seat. Size 1 transports at 27 lbs (12.25 kg) and Size 2 at 31 lbs (14 kg) with the seating removed.

Can The Tyke Face The Parent?

The Ki Mobility Tyke offers reverse, face-to-face seating only on Size 1 with x:panda infant seating. Size 2 is forward facing on the current form. Reverse facing requires omit transit.

Is The Tyke Transit Approved?

Ki's Tyke spec table lists WC-19 approved as yes on Size 1 and Size 2 when the transit option is selected. The owner's manual points at RESNA WC-4 Section 19 and ISO 7176-19 for a base equipped with the transit option. Reverse facing requires omit transit. Use only the transit kit Ki approves.

What Sizes Does The Tyke Come In?

The Ki Mobility Tyke is Size 1 or Size 2. Size 1 is a 17.5 inch frame and 15.5 inch seat, depth 4.25 to 10.25 inches. Size 2 is a 20 inch frame and 18 inch seat, depth 6.25 to 14.25 inches. Both are rated 74 lbs (33.5 kg). The child's therapist measures the child and the x:panda seat.

Does The Tyke Include The X:panda Seat?

The Ki Mobility Tyke base does not include the x:panda seat, armrests, or footrests. Ki's adaptor plate makes it simple to add and remove the x:panda shape seating. The seat is a separate seating order written with the child's therapist.

Tyke Or Little Wave Flip?

The Tyke is the 35 degree, 74 lb early intervention base for x:panda. The Little Wave Flip is the 0 to 45 degree pediatric tilt wheelchair at 165 lbs, or Flip for x:panda at 129 lbs when that seat stays. The therapist picks the base when the child outgrows early intervention sizes.

What Is The Weight Capacity?

The Ki Mobility Tyke is rated at 74 lbs (33.5 kg) on Size 1 and Size 2. Stay at or under that limit. Flip for x:panda is the next Ki x:panda base when the child needs the higher 129 lb rating.

What Is The Warranty?

Ki's Tyke owner's manual warrants the frame and quick-release axles for 5 years for the original purchaser, and other Ki-made parts for one year. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What Happens If ADP Declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal route. Do not take delivery of a custom chair on the assumption that a decline will reverse. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will walk through the letter with you and the child's therapist.
