Description

The Joerns Hoyer Journey is a compact, folding sit-to-stand lift (stand aid). Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care settings in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The sling is sold separately. Joerns lists a safe working load of 341 lbs (155 kg).

This is a sit-to-stand lift, not a full-body Hoyer. Joerns says a sit-to-stand lift works for residents who can bear some weight. The Journey manual says the Standing and Transport slings are for standing and supporting, they are not a general purpose sling, and a qualified person must assess suitability. If the person cannot bear weight, see the Hoyer Advance Electric.

Who it is for

The Journey is for a person who can still bear some weight and can be assessed for a standing or transport sling. Joerns writes that the lift is suitable for patients in the sitting position, and that a transfer should be fully risk assessed and conducted safely over a short distance only. Users of the product should be trained. Joerns strongly recommends a face-to-face patient risk assessment.

Families usually call us when bathrooms and hallways are tight, or when the lift has to fold into a car or a closet. If you need a higher safe working load and do not need the fold, look at the Drive STSM450 (450 lb) or the Span F500S (500 lb).

  • Home or facility transfers from one seated surface to another when the person can bear some weight
  • Tight spaces where a folding stand aid helps
  • Users within Joerns' 341 lb (155 kg) safe working load

How it lifts

The Journey is a powered stand aid. An electric actuator raises an adjustable sling-attachment cradle. The person sits, the sling is fitted, the knees rest on the adjustable pad, and the boom helps them toward standing. Joerns names this the first adjustable sling-attachment cradle of its kind, so one lift can cover a range of heights.

It folds without tools and stands on its own when folded. The Smart Monitor stores lift-cycle, overload, and service data on an LCD and has a redundant UP control. Rear casters brake. The foot tray is removable. Joerns tests the lift to EN ISO 10535.

Joerns Hoyer Journey specifications

These figures are for the Hoyer Journey on Joerns' current product page and the Journey owner manual. The specification tab holds the stored values. Joerns lists a safe working load of 341 lbs (155 kg), a maximum overall length of 39.4 in, a minimum overall length of 36.8 in, a maximum overall height of 63.0 in, a minimum overall height of 44.5 in, attachment-point height 28.4-60.2 in, a turning radius of 45.1 in, legs open 38.2 in external / 34.5 in internal, legs closed 27.0 in external / 22.2 in internal, ground clearance 1.2 in, 3 in front twin casters, 4 in rear braked casters, and a total weight of 88.6 lb including the 6.2 lb power pack.

The battery is a 24 V sealed lead-acid pack (3.2 Ah). The charger is 100-240 V AC in. Indoor environmental limits are in the owner manual.

Slings and spreader bar

The Journey uses an adjustable loop cradle, not a 4-point or 6-point full-body spreader bar. Joerns' Journey manual names two sling families: the Hoyer Standing Sling and the Hoyer Transport Sling, in various sizes. Joerns' sling chart places those loop stand-aid slings on the Journey (and on Ascend and Elevate). Clip stand-aid slings on that chart are for Elevate only.

Joerns recommends genuine Hoyer slings and says other manufacturers' products are not designed to be interchangeable. The sling is sold separately. See our sit-to-stand slings. For a full-body loop sling on a different Hoyer, start at full-body slings.

Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this lift across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, show you the fold, and walk through the Smart Monitor and emergency functions before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our patient lift rental service; purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Patient lifts are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the lift is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?

Yes. Westin Healthcare rents patient lifts. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. Same-day delivery is offered on the rental service. Purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Ask us whether a sit-to-stand lift is available on the rental fleet for your dates. If you later decide to buy, ask us about applying rental credit toward a purchase. The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Service and warranty

When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Joerns HoyerPro manufacturer warranty

Joerns' HoyerPro lifts warranty (6160004 Rev D) covers HoyerPro lifts, including the Journey, for the original purchaser: 2 years from delivery on mechanical and electrical components, lifetime on aluminum structural components and welds (defined as 15 years from delivery), 90 days on wear parts such as DC batteries, hydraulic pumps, and casters, and 1 year on the pendant. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Who does Joerns say the Journey is for?

Joerns says a sit-to-stand lift works for residents who can bear some weight. The Journey manual says Standing and Transport slings are for standing and supporting, not general purpose, and a qualified person must assess suitability.

What is the safe working load?

Joerns lists 341 lbs (155 kg). The sling rating cannot raise that number. The Smart Monitor records attempted lifts above the safe working load.

Is the sling included?

No. The sling is sold separately. Joerns names the Hoyer Standing Sling and the Hoyer Transport Sling, loop style, for this lift. See our sit-to-stand slings category.

Does the Journey fold?

Yes. Joerns describes a no-tools folding design for compact storage and transport, and the lift stands unaided when folded.

How is this different from the Hoyer Advance?

The Advance is a full-body floor lift for people who cannot take their own weight. The Journey is a folding stand aid for people who can bear some weight. If you need the Advance, it is on its own page.

What is the Smart Monitor?

Joerns' control system stores lift-cycle counts, work done, overloads, and days in service, and shows them on an LCD. It also has a battery indicator and a redundant UP button.

Can I rent a sit-to-stand lift first?

Westin Healthcare rents patient lifts. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. Ask us whether a sit-to-stand unit is on the rental fleet for your dates.

What is the warranty?

Joerns' HoyerPro warranty is 2 years on mechanical and electrical parts, lifetime (15 years) on aluminum structure and welds, 90 days on batteries, pumps, and casters, and 1 year on the pendant. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work.

How is a purchased lift delivered?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased lift.

Does it work in a small bathroom?

Joerns designed the Journey as an ultra compact, portable folding stand aid and publishes a 45.1 in turning radius and a 27.0 in closed external width. We can measure your doorway before you buy.
