Description
The Span America F500S is a powered sit-to-stand lift. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care settings in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The sling is sold separately. Savaria Patient Care lists a safe working load of 500 lb (228 kg).
This is a sit-to-stand lift, not a passive full-body hoist. Savaria writes that the F500S is designed for patients needing a moderate level of assistance during transfer, and that the patient should have the strength and stability to bear weight on at least one leg. For patients who cannot do so, Savaria points to a passive boom lift such as the Span F500P. If you need a full-body floor lift we stock, see the Span F400 or the Hoyer Advance Electric.
Who it is for
The F500S is for a person who can bear weight on at least one leg and who needs moderate help to stand and transfer between bed, chair, and commode. Savaria also writes that two or more caregivers may be required for a transfer, based on a full assessment of mobility, weight, size, medical conditions, mental status, and ability to assist.
Families usually call us when they want a 500 lb sit-to-stand rating and a compact powered base. If the person cannot take any weight, this is the wrong class of lift.
- Home or facility transfers between bed, chair, and commode when one-leg weight-bearing is present
- Users within Savaria's 500 lb (228 kg) safe working load
- Settings where a second caregiver may be part of the assessment, as Savaria describes
How it lifts
A powered boom and a sit-to-stand sling help the person rise. The feet stand on a wide non-slip footplate. The knees rest on a height-adjustable pad. The caregiver opens the base to fit a chair or commode and locks that width. Savaria lists redundant operation from the control unit if the pendant is lost, overload protection that stops the lift when capacity is exceeded, and manual emergency lowering.
The battery is quick-release. A plug-in charger is included so you can charge in place. A charging cradle is optional. A backlit LCD shows during operation. Savaria lists certification to ISO 10535 and IEC/EN/ANSI/AAMI/CAN/CSA-C22.2 60601-1, 60601-1-2, and 60601-1-11, plus an SGS mark.
Span America F500S specifications
These figures are the ones Savaria states without a conflict on the current F500S page. The specification tab holds the stored values. Safe working load is 500 lb (228 kg). Knee-pad length extension is 4.5 in. Maximum boom width is 17.7 in. The official page also prints a 3-year frame warranty.
Savaria's current spec table and older dealer tables disagree on base length, mast height, lift range, and product weight. We are not printing those numbers here until the carton sheet is opened. Ask us in the store and we will measure the unit we ship.
Slings and spreader bar
The F500S is a sit-to-stand lift with a boom for sit-to-stand slings, not a 6-point full-body cradle. Savaria's official accessories are Deluxe Sit-to-Stand Slings D202MEDLP (Small/Medium) and D202XLGLP (Large/Extra Large): padded, height-adjustable, with a chest belt that uses hook and loop plus a buckle. A floor-lift knee belt (P11616) is listed separately.
The sling is sold separately. See our sit-to-stand slings. If the assessment points to a full-body sling and a boom lift, start at full-body slings.
Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this lift across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the pendant, the control-unit backup, and the emergency lowering before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?
Yes. Westin Healthcare rents patient lifts. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. Same-day delivery is offered on the rental service. Purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Ask us whether a sit-to-stand lift is available on the rental fleet for your dates. If you later decide to buy, ask us about applying rental credit toward a purchase. The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service and warranty
When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Span America manufacturer warranty
Savaria's current F500S page states a 3-year frame warranty. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order, and ask us to confirm the electrical and battery terms that ship with the carton.
Frequently asked questions
Who does Savaria say can use the F500S?
Savaria says the person should have the strength and stability to bear weight on at least one leg, and that the lift is for a moderate level of assistance. If the person cannot do that, Savaria points to a passive boom lift.
Can one caregiver run this lift?
Savaria writes that two or more caregivers may be required, based on a full assessment of mobility, weight, size, medical conditions, mental status, and ability to assist. We follow that sentence.
What is the safe working load?
Savaria lists 500 lb (228 kg). Overload protection stops the lift and sounds an alert if that rating is exceeded.
Is the sling included?
No. Savaria names Deluxe Sit-to-Stand Slings D202MEDLP and D202XLGLP. See our sit-to-stand slings category.
Does it have emergency lowering?
Yes. Savaria lists manual emergency lowering, plus redundant controls on the control unit if the pendant is lost.
How is this different from the Drive STSM450?
Both are powered sit-to-stand lifts. Drive rates the STSM450 at 450 lb and requires the person to support the majority of their own weight. Savaria rates the F500S at 500 lb and requires weight-bearing on at least one leg. See the Drive STSM450 if you want that model.
Can I rent a sit-to-stand lift first?
Westin Healthcare rents patient lifts. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. Ask us whether a sit-to-stand unit is on the rental fleet for your dates.
What is the warranty?
Savaria's current F500S page states a 3-year frame warranty. Ask us to confirm the rest of the split on the carton. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work.
How is a purchased lift delivered?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased lift.
