In the manufacturer's words, it converts the stand-up harness into a gait training harness. What does it fit? The Bure Rise & Go and the Bure Rise & Go DB, and it only works with a Belt MULTI. Do not confuse it with 56-388, the standard gait training kit, which is a complete harness for the Bure Standard, S, Low, Space and Double 2.0 and needs no belt. The rule: power rise walker means 56-388-KIT plus a belt; no power rise means 56-388.

Description

The Handicare Bure Rise & Go Gait Training Kit for Belt MULTI is Direct Healthcare Group's conversion kit for the power rise walker, manufacturer code 56-388-KIT. In the manufacturer's own words, the MULTI gait training kit converts the stand-up harness into a gait training harness. Westin Healthcare ships it across Canada and delivers it across Brampton and the GTA.

This kit is not a harness on its own. It adds to a Bure Rise & Go Belt MULTI, which is quoted separately in the size that fits the user. If you do not already have a belt, order both together.

What it does

A Belt MULTI on its own stands somebody up. It holds them at the hips and the bottom while the walker's power rise does the lifting, and once they are upright the belt has done its job. The moment the person starts to walk, the belt is no longer catching anything.

That is what this kit changes. Direct Healthcare Group describes the walking training harness as an accessory used for increased safety when walking in the Bure Rise & Go, and says the product's straps and fastening hooks minimize risks if users suffer from dizziness or similar issues. Two padded straps pass between the legs and two more clip to fixed points on the armrests, so if the user's knees go, they are already held.

It is the difference between a machine that stands somebody up and a machine you can safely walk somebody in.

What is in the box

The manufacturer lists four parts made of soft materials, plus the hardware that anchors them:

  • Two straps with soft padding. These go between the user's legs and lock into the intended lock on the belt.
  • Two straps with fastening hooks. These hang loose until the user is secured in the walker, then clip on.
  • Two attachment modules with screws. These are the fixed points on the walker, and they are fitted once and left in place.

Fitting it, in the manufacturer's order

  1. Fit the modules to the walker, once. The two attachment modules push in from the inside on the left and right sides of the armrests, under the cushions. Direct Healthcare Group recommends placing them in the middle of the armrests. Lock each module with the supplied screw and check that it is secure.
  2. Apply the padded straps to the user. The straps with padding go between the legs and lock into the intended lock. The straps with the fastening hooks hang loose at this stage.
  3. Stand the user with the Belt MULTI as normal, using the walker's power rise.
  4. Clip on. Hook the carabiner hooks on the green bands, right and left, into the fastening modules. Tighten the fastening strap so that it is as short as possible.

Two precautions the manufacturer prints in bold type of its own. The green strap is threaded through the buckles from the inside and lower part, up through the buckle and the upper part. And loose straps must be outside the tensioned strap during use, so nothing can be caught between the strap and the load.

Which walker it fits

Direct Healthcare Group's fitment matrix lists 56-388-KIT against the Bure Rise & Go and the Bure Rise & Go DB, and against no other Bure walker.

Two Bure gait training kits, and how to tell them apart

Direct Healthcare Group makes two gait training products for the Bure range and the codes sit one hyphen apart. Ordering the wrong one is the single most common mistake on this part, so it is worth thirty seconds.

CodeWhat it isNeeds a Belt MULTIWalkers
56-388Standard gait training kit: a support harness on four blue straps with steel carabinersNo, it is the harnessBure Standard, Bure S, Bure Low, Bure Space, Bure Double 2.0

The rule of thumb: if your walker has a power rise function, you have a Rise & Go and you want 56-388-KIT plus a belt. If it does not, you want 56-388 on its own. Call (905) 451-7743 with the serial number and we will confirm it before anything ships.

The kit does not change the rating of the walker or the belt. The general rule for assembled equipment applies: the lowest rating among the walker, the belt and any accessory is the rating of the whole assembly, which on a Bure Rise & Go is 150 kg (330 lb). The manufacturer requires a risk assessment on the user before the walker is used at all, to confirm they can stand and perform simple leg movements, and asks that the user is never left alone during a transfer.

Related parts and walkers

The belt this kit converts is the Bure Rise & Go Belt MULTI, in S, M, L or XL. Order the belt in the size that fits the user; the kit itself is one size.

For the walkers without a power rise function, the equivalent product is the Bure standard gait training kit, 56-388, which is a complete harness rather than a conversion.

Also worth having on a walker used for gait training: the Bure lower leg support and the Bure side support. Transfer plates are the short and long with castors versions. Other harnesses sit on the walking support slings shelf and other Bure hardware on the lift parts shelf.

Warranty and inspection

Direct Healthcare Group states in the Bure instructions for use that the warranty applies only if repairs or alterations are made by personnel authorized by Direct Healthcare Group, and that repairs and maintenance may only be done by authorized personnel using original spare parts. No year count is printed in the manual, so ask us for the current terms that ship with your serial number and we will handle a claim with you.

The manufacturer also requires the walker to undergo a thorough inspection at least once every twelve months, performed by authorized personnel and in accordance with Direct Healthcare Group's instructions. Accessories are part of that inspection: the manual tells you to verify that any accessory fitted to the walker is properly attached before use, and to test it against the user's needs and functional ability. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or the facility.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a harness on its own?

No. It converts a Bure Rise & Go Belt MULTI into a gait training harness. You need the belt as well, in the size that fits the user.

What is the difference between 56-388-KIT and 56-388?

56-388-KIT is this conversion kit, for the power rise walkers, and it needs a Belt MULTI. 56-388 is a complete support harness on four blue straps for the Bure walkers that have no power rise function. They are not interchangeable.

Which walker does it fit?

The Bure Rise & Go and the Bure Rise & Go DB. Of the walkers Westin sells, that is the Bure Rise & Go DB.

What is actually in the kit?

Four soft parts, being two straps with padding and two straps with fastening hooks, plus two attachment modules and their fixing screws.

Where do the attachment modules go?

They push in from the inside on the left and right sides of the armrests, under the cushions. The manufacturer recommends placing them in the middle of the armrests, and each one is locked with the supplied screw.

Do the modules stay on the walker?

Yes. They are fitted once and left in place. The straps come on and off with the user.

When should I use it?

When the user is going to walk with the machine rather than just be stood up and wheeled. The manufacturer's stated purpose is increased safety when walking, particularly for users prone to dizziness.

Is there anything easy to get wrong when fitting it?

Two things the manufacturer calls out. The green strap threads through the buckles from the inside and lower part, up through the buckle and the upper part. And any loose strap must lie outside the tensioned strap during use.

Does it change the weight limit?

No. The Bure Rise & Go is rated 150 kg (330 lb) and the lowest rating in the assembly governs the whole assembly.

Do you fit it for us?

Yes. The modules need a screwdriver and a check that they are secure. Ask us to bring the kit on a service visit and our technician will fit it and show your staff the strap routing.
