Description
The Handicare QuickMove Sit-to-Stand Transfer Aid is Handicare's SystemRoMedic active transfer and transport aid, manufacturer code 400801334, rated 170 kg (375 lb). Westin Healthcare delivers it and sets it up across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
It is not powered. There is no motor, no battery, no hand control and no sling. The user puts their feet on the footplate, takes the handles and stands using their own strength, and the caregiver takes them where they are going. That is the whole design, and it is why the QuickMove is quick: nothing has to be charged, fitted or waited for between transfers.
Who this aid is for
Handicare puts the prerequisites in a box of their own in the manual. All four have to be true, and they are worth reading before anyone orders one.
- The user must be able to support weight while standing
- The user must be able to stand up and maintain balance, with support
- The user must be able to grasp handles
- The user must be able to understand instructions
Handicare describes the QuickMove as designed for users with poor balance and reduced lower limb strength who still have a degree of arm strength and standing function, and who can raise themselves to an upright or semi-upright position. Somebody who cannot take load through their legs, or cannot hold on, needs a powered lift and a sling instead. That is a different machine, not an accessory decision.
Handicare also prints two conditions of use that decide whether it fits the building as well as the person: the QuickMove is not intended for long transfers, and it can only be used on a flat floor. It is a bed-to-chair, chair-to-toilet machine, not a way of moving somebody down a corridor.
How it works
The caregiver brings the QuickMove up to the person, opening the base with the foot pedal so the legs clear a wheelchair or a commode. The user puts their feet on the detachable, non-slip footplate. Their shins rest against the knee pad, which adjusts for depth and height and tilts to suit the leg.
The user takes the handles and stands. Handicare's design follows a natural movement pattern rather than pulling straight up, and the angle-adjustment crossbar lets the seat and the handgrip angle be tipped up or down so the geometry suits the person rather than the person adapting to the machine. The grips work horizontally or vertically, so a user with a weak hand can choose the hold that works.
Once the user is up, the split seat pads come into play. They swing away and flip up, so they can be out of the way for the stand and then folded down behind the user for a seated transfer. Two seat-depth positions are set manually. The rear castors are braked, and the brakes go on before anyone gets on or off.
It is also a standing assessment and training tool
This is the part clinics buy it for, and Handicare documents it in the manual rather than leaving it to marketing.
- Testing standing function. Handicare states the QuickMove is ideal for testing a user's standing function when there is uncertainty as to whether they can rise from sitting to standing at all. It gives a safe, braked frame to find that out on.
- Training standing function. The QuickMove can be used to train standing, sitting and sit-to-stand function. Handicare's suggested method for measuring improvement is deliberately low-tech: use a stopwatch or a clock with a second hand and time the user.
- Repositioning in a chair. If a user has slid forward in their wheelchair, the QuickMove can bring them back. Remove or raise the wheelchair footplates, run the QuickMove in, have the user place their feet, grasp the ladder, lean forward and lift slightly from the seat while the caregiver provides counter pressure, then slide them back.
Savaria's own listing frames the same ground as early gait training, activity tolerance testing, bedside exercise and functional assessment. The wording on this page follows the manual, because the manual is the document a clinician will be asked to produce.

Two notes on that table. Handicare also publishes the height from the floor to the top of the castor frame as 140 mm (5.5 in), which with the 45 mm leg height is what tells you whether the base will go under the furniture you have. And the castor diameter is the one figure where two Handicare documents disagree: the current instructions for use print 80 mm and the 2019 North American brochure prints 75 mm. Both round to 3 inches. Ask us before ordering a replacement castor and we will confirm which one is on your machine.
The QuickMove complies with the requirements of the Medical Device Regulation 2017/745, and Handicare gives it an expected lifetime of up to 10 years of normal use.
Will it fit the room?
The three figures that decide it:
- Getting through the door. With the legs closed the outer width across the castors is 615 mm (24.2 in). Measure your narrowest doorway.
- Getting around the chair. With the legs open the outer width is 1050 mm (41.3 in) and the gap between the legs is 620 mm (24.4 in), which is what has to clear a wheelchair or a commode.
- Getting under the bed or the chair. The top of the leg is 45 mm (1.7 in) off the floor.
Handicare does not publish a turning diameter for the QuickMove, which is the figure a small bathroom really needs. Send us the room dimensions or call (905) 451-7743 and we will work through it with you rather than guess.
Accessories
Handicare publishes two ways to give a QuickMove user torso and side support, and they suit different situations.
- The BackSupport (70200037) sits behind the user's back and fastens to the QuickMove, with its length adjusted to the height of the user. It belongs to the machine and is set once.
- The SupportStraps (6061) work with an EasyBelt, FlexiBelt, ReadyBelt or FlexiMove. They belong to the person and travel with them across devices.
Neither is included. Both are quoted separately. If you are ordering a QuickMove and you already know the user sways or lists, add the BackSupport to the same order and we will fit it before delivery.
Funding help for a transfer aid in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this transfer aid across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, set the knee pad and the seat depth to the person, and show the caregiver the foot pedal and the brakes before we leave.
You are welcome to visit our Brampton showroom, or Mobility Specialties, our partner store in Etobicoke, if you would rather try a standing aid first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works.
Standing aids are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the machine is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a transfer aid before I buy?
If you only need a standing aid for a recovery, or you want to live with one before buying, ask us about renting first. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub and the patient lift rentals page. Westin rents electric floor lifts across Brampton and the GTA, with same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto and Mississauga and next-day delivery elsewhere with one day of notice.
Ask us whether a non-powered standing aid is on the rental fleet for your dates, because the rental fleet is built around powered lifts. If you later decide to buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program, an active Westin loyalty program. The rentals hub and the rental program FAQs have the rules.
Related standing aids from Westin
The QuickMove sits between a grab rail and a powered lift, and the right choice depends on how much the user can still do.
- If the user can stand but needs the machine to do the raising, a powered stand aid is the answer: the Handicare MiniLift160EE at 160 kg (350 lb) raises the user on a ThoraxSling vest, and the MiniLift200 takes 200 kg (440 lb).
- If the user works better on a carry bar than a vest, the Beka Nora Alu raises them on a stand-up sling with knee pads at the front.
- If the user cannot take load through their legs at all, a standing aid is the wrong tool. The Handicare Eva600EE is a passive full-body floor lift.
Everything sits on the sit-to-stand lifts hub and the patient lifts hub, and our staff will talk through the difference between an active aid and a passive lift with you.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the machine needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not an overseas parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department, and our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Handicare warranty, maintenance and cleaning
Handicare's instructions for use state that maintenance and service of the device must be performed according to the manual at least once every 12 months, that accessories must be properly fitted and tested in relation to the user's needs and functional ability, and that the expected lifetime is up to 10 years of normal use. No year count for the warranty itself is printed in the manual, so ask us for the current terms that ship with your serial number and we will handle a claim with you.
Cleaning is straightforward: the surface can be cleaned with warm water or a soap solution, and where disinfection is needed Handicare specifies 70% ethanol, 45% isopropanol or similar. We can quote the annual inspection with the machine.
Frequently asked questions
Is the QuickMove powered?
No. There is no motor, no battery and no hand control. The user stands using their own strength and the caregiver steers. That is why it is lighter, cheaper to own and quicker between transfers than a powered stand aid, and it is also why the user prerequisites are stricter.
Does it use a sling?
No, and none fits. The user holds the handles and stands on the footplate. If the person you are transferring needs to be held by fabric, they need a powered lift and a sling, not a QuickMove.
Who should not use one?
Anyone who cannot meet all four of Handicare's conditions: support weight while standing, stand up and maintain balance with support, grasp handles, and understand instructions. Have a clinician assess the person before the first transfer.
How is it different from a MiniLift?
A MiniLift is powered. It raises the user on a ThoraxSling vest with a motor, and the caregiver works a hand control. A QuickMove is manual: the user does the raising and the machine gives them something safe to raise against. A MiniLift suits a user with less standing power; a QuickMove suits a user who still has some and benefits from using it.
Can it go over a threshold or down a hall?
Handicare is explicit on both. It can only be used on a flat floor, and it is not intended for long transfers. Use it between the bed and the chair, or the chair and the toilet, and use something else to travel.
Will it fit through my doorway?
With the legs closed the outer width across the castors is 615 mm (24.2 in). With them open it is 1050 mm (41.3 in), which is the setting you need around a wheelchair, not the one you need in a hallway. Measure the narrowest door and the clear floor beside the bed, and we will check it with you.
What weight does it take?
Handicare rates it at 170 kg (375 lb). If an accessory is fitted, remember that the lowest rating in the assembly governs the whole assembly.
Can it be used for standing practice rather than transfers?
Yes, and Handicare documents it. The manual describes using the QuickMove to test whether a user can rise from sitting to standing at all, and to train standing, sitting and sit-to-stand function, timing the user with a stopwatch to measure improvement.
What is the seat for if the user is standing?
Two things. The split pads swing away and flip up so they are clear during the stand, then fold down behind the user so they can be moved sitting down rather than standing all the way. The seat depth has two manual positions, so it can be set to the person.
Does ADP cover a transfer aid in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Other routes can help when the criteria fit, and our staff will point you at the right one. Call (905) 451-7743 before you buy.
What maintenance does it need?
Handicare requires maintenance and service according to the manual at least once every 12 months, plus the daily checks: brakes working, castors turning freely and securely fixed, no visible damage. We can quote the annual inspection with the machine.
