The Medcare Commode Sling is a polyester mesh hygiene sling for toilet and commode transfers. Savaria Patient Care lists it as a Medcare sling in the Handicare and Savaria family. It has an enlarged seat opening, an adjustable buckle belt, and a 4-point loop hook-up. Westin Healthcare quotes the family in Brampton and fits it across the Greater Toronto Area.
This is a loop sling. Colour-coded straps seat on a 2-, 4-, or 6-point loop carry bar. It does not use clip or E-clip fasteners. If the carry bar is a Human Care mushroom fastener, see the Human Care Full Body Sling E-clip instead.
Who this sling is for
The Medcare Commode Sling is for a person who needs a seated transfer onto a toilet or commode, or who needs access for hygiene, and who has enough trunk control, awareness, and ability to follow instructions for a commode sling. Apply it from a seated position. This is not a sit-to-stand sling, and it is not a leave-in-place full-seat sling.

What you get
You get one Medcare Commode Sling in the mesh article on your quote. The body is rip-stop polyester mesh with antimicrobial protection. If the fabric is punctured or torn, it is made so the tear does not run. An adjustable buckle belt goes around the waist at about rib-cage height, under the arms. Two shoulder straps and two leg straps make the 4-point hook-up. Leg straps cross. Shoulder straps stay uncrossed. Positioning handles sit on the back panel. A lift is sold separately.
Strap colour marks the size: black Small, blue Medium, yellow Large, and white Extra Large. Re-tighten the belt as the person rises, because the torso lengthens and the belt can slacken.

Medcare prints a body-weight guide by strap colour. Different height and width can change the fit, so the chart is only a starting point. Confirm the size with a clinician or our staff before first use.

Every size is 1000 lb. Fabric is rip-stop polyester mesh with antimicrobial protection. Attachment is loop, 4-point. The seat has an enlarged commode opening. Medium 400072 is the default article. Expected lifetime is 6 months to 3 years, depending on use, care, and laundering. Inspect straps, belt, seams, and mesh after every wash and discard the sling if you find tears, fraying, burns, or serious defects.

Care and laundering
Machine wash the mesh sling in a soap solution. Maximum wash temperature is 165 F (74 C). Rinse thoroughly. Do not use bleach. Do not dry clean. Hang dry or tumble dry at a maximum of 175 F (79 C). Do not overload the dryer and keep the sling off a direct heat source. Wipe the mesh between uses and wash it when it is soiled. Inspect fabric, seams, belt, and loops after every wash. Compare it to a new sling if you are unsure.

Attachment and compatible lifts
The Medcare Commode Sling is a loop sling. Colour-coded straps seat on a 2-, 4-, or 6-point loop carry bar. Shoulder straps go on the top hooks. Leg straps go on the bottom hooks. It does not use clip fasteners and it does not use Human Care E-clips.
Medcare states that its loop slings fit Medcare carry bars and other 2-, 4-, and 6-point loop bars. On our floor that is the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, the Handicare A450, the Handicare AP300 portable motor, the Savaria M-Series ceiling lift, and the two-point SlingBar on the Handicare Carina 350. The finished transfer is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the bar, and the sling. A Carina 350 transfer stays inside 350 lb even though this sling is 1000 lb. Do not put this sling on a sit-to-stand lift. Do not put it on a Human Care mushroom bar.

Does it have a commode opening?
Yes. The seat has an enlarged opening so the person can use a toilet or commode and so clothing is easier to manage during hygiene.
How do I apply it?
Apply it from a seated position. Lean the person forward, tuck the sling behind them, buckle the belt at rib-cage height under the arms, pass the leg straps under the thighs and cross them, then hook the shoulder straps on the top bar hooks and the leg straps on the bottom hooks. Re-tighten the belt as the person rises.
How do I wash it?
