Description

The Joerns WeCare is Joerns Healthcare's full-electric super-low hospital bed. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The eight-function pendant moves the back section, the knee section, AutoContour, and the height of the bed.

The current full-electric WeCare lowers the sleep deck to 8 inches and raises it to 28 inches. Safe working load is 450 lbs for the person, the mattress, the bedding, and anything else on the bed. Maximum patient weight is 400 lbs. The sleep surface is 35 inches by 80 inches. A CareWide Comfort Extension, ordered from the bed-size selector, takes the width to 42 inches.

Who this bed is for

This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home or in a care room and wants a Joerns split-frame that comes in two lighter pieces, with electric back, knee, AutoContour, and height from one pendant. Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for a super-low transfer height and a higher working height for linen changes.

If you want Joerns' older tubular low frame, see the Joerns Care 100. If you want Joerns' current configurable long-term-care frame, with a 7 inch to 30 inch travel range and a 600 lb working load, see the Joerns EasyCare. If you need the higher-capacity Joerns frame with AdvanceCare positioning, see the Joerns UltraCare XT.

  • Home care, where the bed has to come up stairs or through a tight hall as two pieces and sit at 8 inches for a shorter fall distance
  • Long-term care when a 450 lb Joerns split-frame is enough and a 7 inch EasyCare deck is not required
  • Anyone who needs electric back, knee, AutoContour, and height from one pendant, with an optional staff lockout at the foot panel

What you get

The Joerns WeCare is a full-electric super-low bed. Four DC motors move the back, the knee, and the two hi-lo legs. The standard control is an eight-function pendant (three functions plus AutoContour) with an integrated hook. The pendant can clip to a Joerns assist device so the person or the caregiver can reach it from either side.

Westin's SKU WECARE is the Joerns WeCare full-electric frame with head and foot panels. Use the selectors below to choose bed width and rails. A mattress, staff control, battery backup, the 4 inch length extender, and the stair-climber dolly are not in the box. Call (905) 451-7743 if you need those pieces with the bed.

  • Eight-function pendant for back, knee, AutoContour, and height
  • Split tubular steel frame with a SoftTone finish (head section 67.3 lbs, foot section 77.7 lbs)
  • Therapeutic grid sleep surface
  • Mattress stops at the head and foot
  • Four IV sockets (two at the head, two at the foot)
  • Baseboard bumper
  • Heavy-duty casters, with a roll-in-low or roll-at-any-height setup
  • Conforms to AAMI ES60601-1, IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-52, and CSA C22.2 No. 60601-1

Battery backup is an option, not standard equipment. If the power is out and no backup battery is fitted, the bed stays where it is until power returns or a technician moves it. Ask us if you want the Joerns N211 backup kit with the order.

Joerns WeCare specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU WECARE, the current Joerns WeCare full-electric super-low bed (factory codes WECC-WECARE-RIL and WECC-WECARE-RAH). The specification tab holds the stored values. Joerns' WeCare spec sheet and the 2025 user-service manual print a sleep surface of 35 inches by 80 inches, a low height of 8 inches, a high height of 28 inches, an 18 inch under-bed clearance, a 145 lb product weight without panels, a 450 lb safe working load, and a 400 lb maximum patient weight. The assembled 80 inch model is 86.9 inches long by 35.0 inches wide by 8.0 inches high. Joerns also lists a WeCare Base revision at 8.75 inches to 26 inches; that is a different factory code, not the bed sold as WECARE.

Width is 35 inches on the stock deck. The CareWide Comfort Extension, ordered from the bed-size selector, takes the surface to 42 inches. Joerns also publishes a 39 inch Twin XL CareWide width that is not one of the bed-size choices. An optional 4 inch length extender takes the sleep surface to 84 inches. Maximum back angle is 65 degrees to horizontal. Maximum knee angle is 25 degrees to horizontal.

Warranty for the original purchaser is 7 years on steel structural components, 1 year on mechanical and electrical components, lifetime on welds (Joerns prints a 10-year intended life for those welds), and 90 days on wear parts such as DC batteries and pendants.

Bed size, rails, and other WeCare options

Use the selectors below to choose bed width and rails. Joerns designed the assist devices and mattresses that fit this frame. Call (905) 451-7743 before you order if you need a surface, a 39 inch deck, staff lockout, battery backup, or the length extender.

Choose Bed Size

36" BED WIDTH - STANDARD is the stock Joerns deck. Joerns prints that surface as 35 inches wide. 42" CAREWIDE KIT (COMFEXT-ECS4280) is the Comfort Extension that takes the sleep surface to 42 inches. Fit a 42 inch mattress if you choose that kit. Joerns also lists a 39 inch Twin XL CareWide width that we do not sell as a selector here.

Choose Rail Options

HALF RAILS (F14SCAL) is the Joerns F14 half-length assist device, the no-charge rail choice. FULL RAILS (F168AL ) is the Joerns F168 assist device and needs the N832AL mounting hardware. SOFT DELUXE RAILS is the Joerns F18 SoftCare deluxe half-length assist device. Use only Joerns assist devices made for WeCare. The user manual says to keep the mattress centred so the person cannot slip into a gap. Rails are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint and they are not a handle unless the device is the Assist Handle Joerns designed for transfers. If a therapist asked for a specific rail style, call us with that note.

Mattress

Joerns recommends a mattress at least 35 inches wide and 6 inches high, with a length that matches the 80 inch deck. The mattress must stay centred so the person cannot slip into a gap. A mattress is ordered separately. We stock Joerns surfaces and other 35 inch and 36 inch hospital-bed mattresses. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure system. Powered air surfaces can change the gap at the rail, so the mattress and the assist device have to be chosen together.

Other factory options

  • Roll-in-low or roll-at-any-height casters. Tell us which setup you need when we book delivery.
  • Optional staff control in the foot panel, which can lock out pendant functions and add Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg.
  • Optional N211 battery backup.
  • Optional 4 inch length extender.
  • Stair-climber dolly, transport cart, IV rod, trapeze, and floor mat.
  • Head and foot panel designs and finishes. The stock finish on the frame is SoftTone.

Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.

Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?

Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.

Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Joerns manufacturer warranty

Joerns' warranty for the original purchaser of the WeCare is 7 years on steel structural components, 1 year on mechanical and electrical components, lifetime on welds (Joerns prints a 10-year intended life for those welds), and 90 days on wear parts such as DC batteries and pendants. Damage from misuse, unsuitable conditions, or unauthorised repair is not covered. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does OHIP cover hospital beds?

No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.

Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.

What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?

The Joerns WeCare is full electric, so the pendant adjusts the back, the knee, AutoContour, and the height of the bed. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank. This Joerns frame does not use a hand crank for everyday height.

How is the WeCare different from the Joerns Care 100, EasyCare, and UltraCare XT?

The WeCare is Joerns' current split-frame super-low bed: 8 inches to 28 inches, 450 lb safe working load, 400 lb maximum patient weight. The Joerns Care 100 is the older tubular low frame. The Joerns EasyCare is the current configurable Joerns long-term-care frame, 7 inches to 30 inches, 600 lb working load. The Joerns UltraCare XT is the higher-capacity Joerns frame with AdvanceCare positioning.

What mattress fits the Joerns WeCare?

Joerns recommends a mattress at least 35 inches wide and 6 inches high, with a length that matches the 80 inch deck. Keep the mattress centred. If you choose the 42 inch CareWide kit, use a 42 inch mattress. We can also fit other 35 inch or 36 inch hospital-bed mattresses, including foam and alternating-pressure systems. Ask your therapist before you pick a powered air surface.

Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?

Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.

How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.

What is included with this Joerns WeCare?

You get the Joerns WeCare full-electric super-low frame with headboard and footboard, the eight-function pendant, mattress stops, four IV sockets, casters, and the baseboard bumper. HALF RAILS (F14SCAL) is the no-charge rail choice. A mattress, the 42 inch CareWide kit, FULL RAILS, SOFT DELUXE RAILS, staff control, and battery backup are ordered separately.

What is the weight capacity of the Joerns WeCare?

Joerns lists a 450 lb safe working load and a 400 lb maximum patient weight. The 450 lb total includes the person, the mattress, the bedding, and any accessories on the bed. If the person is near that patient limit, or you need a wider sleep deck as standard, ask us about a higher-capacity Joerns frame instead of stretching this one.

What happens if the power goes out?

Battery backup is optional on this model. If the Joerns N211 backup kit is fitted, the pendant can still move the bed. Without that kit the pendant will not move the bed until power returns. There is no hand crank on the WeCare.

What is the warranty on the Joerns WeCare?

For the original purchaser, Joerns covers steel structural components for 7 years, mechanical and electrical components for 1 year, welds for the lifetime of the product (10-year intended life), and wear parts such as DC batteries and pendants for 90 days. Those terms are printed in Joerns' 2025 WeCare user-service manual. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.

How low does the Joerns WeCare go?

The current full-electric WeCare lowers the sleep deck to 8 inches and raises it to 28 inches. Joerns also lists a WeCare Base revision at 8.75 inches to 26 inches; that is not the bed sold as WECARE. An 8 inch deck shortens the distance of a fall from the bed. It does not stop every fall, and the lowest height is not always the easiest height for getting out of bed. Roll-in-low rolls when the deck is low. Roll-at-any-height rolls across the published range. Tell us which setup you need when we book delivery.
