Description

The Sunrise Medical Quickie QXi is a Category 3 folding wheelchair. Westin Healthcare configures it to an occupational therapist or physiotherapist prescription and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program lists it as an Adult Lightweight Performance manual wheelchair under device code WM0000562. It is not an off-the-shelf chair that ships the same day you click buy.

Sunrise builds the QXi as a low-maintenance aluminum folding frame with an adjustable axle plate. The current Canada specification table lists a 28.8 lb chair, a 300 lb rating, and seat sizes from 14 to 20 inches wide and 14 to 20 inches deep. Centre of gravity adjusts 1 to 3 inches. An ADP-registered therapist assessment comes first. For eligible clients, ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who needs a Category 3 folding frame, who fits Sunrise's 300 lb rating and the 14 to 20 inch seat range, and who will use the chair for six months or longer. Therapists often pick the QXi when they want Quickie's lowest seat-to-floor (12.5 inches at the front) and a simpler option mix than the Quickie 2.

If the prescription needs more modular frame types or a wider seat than 20 inches, look at the Quickie 2. If the therapist wants a Canadian Future Mobility axle-plate frame, see the Galaxy Lite. The QX sister frame is a different chair with a fixed axle. This chair is the QXi.

  • A folding Category 3 chair built to prescription
  • Sunrise's 28.8 lb QXi frame and 300 lb rating
  • Someone who can self-propel, or who may be pushed

Design and build

The QXi uses one-piece side frames and a three-arm crossbrace that locks inside the side frames. Sunrise describes that layout as fewer moving parts and a more rigid fold. The axle plate is adjustable, with 0 or 3 degrees of camber. Many common changes (centre of gravity, seat height, camber, back height) are meant to be done with one tool.

Front hangers swing in or out, or elevate. A WC-19 transit system is on the Canada order form. Rear wheels and casters are chosen on that form, including the low 4 and 5 inch casters that reach the 12.5 and 13 inch seat heights. The frame folds for the car or a closet.

  • Folding aluminum frame, model EIF6
  • Adjustable axle plate, 0 or 3 degree camber
  • Centre of gravity 1 to 3 inches
  • Swing-away or elevating hangers
  • Transit option on the Canada order form

Sunrise Quickie QXi specifications

These figures are for the Quickie QXi on Sunrise Medical Canada's current specification table and the October 2025 Canada order form, sold here under ADP code WM0000562. The specification tab holds the stored values. Do not mix them with the QX (fixed axle, K0004) or with the Quickie 2.

Seat width 14 to 20 inches. Seat depth 14 to 20 inches. Front seat-to-floor 12.5 to 19.5 inches. Rear seat-to-floor 12 to 19 inches. Back height 13 to 20 inches. Back angle -14 to +5 degrees. Product weight 28.8 lbs. Weight capacity 300 lbs. Frame aluminum. Shipping carton 33 by 38 by 13 inches.

Warranty for the original purchaser is Sunrise's Limited Lifetime term on the frame and cross-brace, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items such as tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips sit outside that term. Sunrise notes that coverage can vary by province.

Colour, seat width, and seat depth

Use Color, Seat Width, and Seat Depth with your therapist to record the prescription. Those choices do not turn the QXi into a stocked cart item. Westin builds the chair after the ADP-registered assessment and the Sunrise order form are complete.

  • Color: the frame colour on the order
  • Seat Width: 14 to 20 inches as shown
  • Seat Depth: 14 to 20 inches as shown

Sunrise's October 2025 Canada form also lists Built-4-Me 21 and 22 inch widths and a longer colour list than Color shows. Ask us if the prescription falls outside the values on Color, Seat Width, or Seat Depth. A Category 3 chair has large rear wheels so the person can self-propel. It is not a transport chair.

ADP funding for a Category 3 wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the prescription is built. We bring it in, unfold it, and show you the wheel locks, the fold, and the axle and hanger setup before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a Category 3 frame first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace. ADP does not pay for repairs.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

Sunrise prints a Limited Lifetime term on the QXi frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Tires, tubes, upholstery, pads, and grips are outside that term. Coverage can vary by province. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What does Category 3 mean on the QXi?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program lists the QXi as an Adult Lightweight Performance manual wheelchair, device code WM0000562. Dealers often call that Category 3 or Type 3. The QXi has centre-of-gravity adjustment, quick-release axles, and anti-tippers. The QX sister frame is not the QXi.

Who qualifies for ADP on this chair?

You must be an Ontario resident with a valid Ontario health card and a disability that needs a mobility aid for six months or longer. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess you before anyone orders the chair. Income is not part of the test. We cannot promise that a specific person will be approved.

How does the 75 / 25 split work?

For eligible clients, ADP pays 75 percent of the approved price and the person pays 25 percent. People on Ontario Works, ODSP, or Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities can be covered at 100 percent of that approved price. Extra items that sit outside the ADP chart are billed separately.

What is the assessment process?

Book an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist. They confirm the need, trial equipment where they can, and complete the application with Westin as the ADP-registered vendor. We submit the form. Do not buy the chair first. A chair bought before approval is not reimbursed.

How long does ADP take?

The ministry says it aims to review a mobility application within eight weeks of receiving it. That is ADP's stated aim, not a Westin delivery date. After approval we order the Sunrise frame to the prescription and book a setup date.

Can I try a QXi before the order?

Westin keeps assessment and trial equipment for therapists to use. Call (905) 451-7743 or come into a Brampton or Toronto store and we will see what is on the floor. A trial chair may not be the same colour or size as the chair that is later built for you.

How should the seat width fit?

The therapist measures seated hip width and leaves a little room on each side. Sunrise lists 14 to 20 inches on the standard form. Use Seat Width for those sizes. Ask us before you assume a 21 or 22 inch Built-4-Me width is on this order.

What is the weight capacity?

Sunrise's Canada specification table and the October 2025 Canada order form print 300 lbs. Stay at or under that rating. Ignore a leftover 265 lb sentence if you still see it on an older Sunrise paragraph.

Will this chair fold into a car trunk?

The frame folds. Sunrise lists shipping dimensions of 33 by 38 by 13 inches and a 28.8 lb chair. We can show you the fold at delivery. The chair is not a car seat unless the WC-19 transit option is on the order and the vehicle is set up for it.

What is the warranty?

Limited Lifetime on the frame and cross-brace for the original purchaser, and one year on Sunrise-made parts. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What happens if ADP declines the application?

ADP sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. We will sit with you and the therapist on the next step. Other routes such as March of Dimes Canada or Veterans Affairs Canada may still help.

Who pushes the QXi?

The person in the seat can self-propel on the large rear wheels, or a caregiver can push from the canes. Engage both wheel locks before sitting or standing.
