Spex Comfi Back Support

The Spex Comfi Back is Sunrise Medical's simpler Spex wheelchair back support for basic contouring in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Sunrise writes it to address pressure, shear, and moisture with auto-conforming foam and airflow.

This is a quote-only configured back. You can later swap the upholstery to a full Spex contouring unit on the same shell and hardware. It is not the Manta Classic and it is not SuperShape.

Who this back is for

The Spex Comfi Back fits a person whose seating therapist wants a no-fuss auto-contour foam back rather than a full cube rebuild at every visit. Tear-off cubes can still open space over a bony area. A seating therapist should confirm this is enough. This page does not give clinical positioning advice.

Foam, airflow, and cover

The Spex Comfi Back uses thermosensitive foam and cube technology so the surface can settle to the person. Cubes can be torn off for a tender spot. A dual-layer cover with air-mesh side panels is how Sunrise talks about shear, moisture, and temperature. The outer cover is a washable breathable spacer fabric over an expansion-fabric inner.

Mount hardware

The Spex Comfi Back uses the same Spex shell family as the other modular backs. Hardware is a separate order line. The Spex back owner's manual prints round canes from 0.75 inch (19 mm) to 1 inch (26 mm). We measure the chair before we pick Single, Dual, or Quad mount.

Stay with the Spex Comfi Back if you want auto-contour foam on a Spex shell. The Spex Manta Classic Back adds the wraparound Manta shape and built-in laterals. The Spex Standard Back is the Classic cube rebuild back. The Spex SuperShape Back is the triple-layer step.

Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario

This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Westin's own team delivers this wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, check it against the wheelchair, and show you the cover and any hardware before we leave.

Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased seating is delivered on a scheduled date after the assessment and quote.

The Spex back owner's manual prints 24 months from purchase on the back support, cover, and hardware for the original purchaser. General wear, punctures, tears, and burns sit outside that term.
