Description
The Spex Manta Classic Back is Sunrise Medical's wraparound Spex wheelchair back support for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It merges the Manta shape with Spex Classic cube contouring. Sunrise marks it NEW on the current Canadian Spex listing.
This is a quote-only configured back. Hardware is selected on the order. It is not a JAY J3 shell and it is not a Ride Java Back.
Who this back is for
Sunrise writes the Manta Classic for a person who needs comfortable shoulder-height support, cube contouring for mild to moderate trunk asymmetry, and built-in laterals with little hardware around the sides. A seating therapist should confirm the height, width, and laterals. This page does not give clinical positioning advice.
- Wraparound Manta shape with Classic cubes
- Built-in laterals; swing-away laterals optional
- 4.9 lbs (2.2 kg) at 16 by 16 inches on the CA card
Shape, cubes, and laterals
The Spex Manta Classic Back keeps the Manta wrap. Inside are contouring cubes you can add or remove while the person stays seated, through a zipper along the rear edge. A cube anchor is there so cubes do not slide during a transfer. Lateral-wing cubes ship in the box. Lateral covers are soft neoprene. A pressure-relieving inner overlay sits under the outer cover.
Nine accent colours are on the CA card: Jet Black, Granite Grey, Chili Red, Mango Orange, Bumblebee Yellow, Leaf Green, Ocean Blue, Royal Purple, and Calypso Pink.
Mount hardware
The 2026 Canada Manta Classic order form says hardware must be selected. Lines on that form are Single Mount, Dual Mount, Quad Mount, Quad Mount Heavy Duty, Direct Mount, and Drop Mount in paediatric, small, medium, and large. The Spex back owner's manual prints round canes from 0.75 inch (19 mm) to 1 inch (26 mm). We will not claim a mount until the chair canes are measured.
Spex Manta Classic Back specifications
These figures are from Sunrise Medical's current Canadian Manta Classic card and the 2026 Canada order form. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Product weight 4.9 lbs (2.2 kg) at 16 by 16 inches. User weight 200 lbs (90 kg) on 10-15 inch widths and 300 lbs (136 kg) on 16-20 inch widths. Order-form wheelchair widths 14 to 22 inches. Order-form back heights 16 to 20 inches. The live CA spec table does not yet reprint those width and height ranges, so the quote uses the order form.
Warranty in the Spex back owner's manual is 24 months for the original purchaser.
Which Spex wheelchair back support
Stay with the Spex Manta Classic Back if the wraparound Manta shape plus cubes is the brief. The Spex Comfi Back is the simpler auto-contour step. The Spex Standard Back is the Classic cube back in Rectangle, T, or Surface shells. The Spex SuperShape Back is the triple-layer cube step. The JAY J3 Back Support is Sunrise's other current modular back family.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers this wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, check it against the wheelchair, and show you the cover and any hardware before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a sample first. For a scheduled in-home drop-off, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased seating is delivered on a scheduled date after the assessment and quote.
If the order is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the seating needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Sunrise Medical Spex warranty
The Spex back owner's manual prints 24 months from purchase on the back support, cover, and hardware for the original purchaser. General wear, punctures, tears, and burns sit outside that term. Sunrise notes that Canadian terms can follow provincial funding rules. We handle the warranty claim with you.
