Description
The Ki Mobility Spark is a Category 3 folding pediatric wheelchair built to a prescription. Westin Healthcare configures it in Brampton for families across the Greater Toronto Area. It is an ADP-eligible Category 3 type of device when the Ministry device code is written on the application. An assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist comes first. ADP can fund 75% of the approved price for eligible clients. Ontario Works, ODSP, and ACSD clients may be funded at 100% of that approved price. The chair is not a boxed, off-the-shelf cart item, and it is not a power wheelchair.
Ki Mobility's current Spark card lists a folding pediatric frame, seat widths 10 to 16 inches, seat depths 12 to 18 inches, a 165 lb user weight, a 19 lb standard weight, and a 17.5 lb transport weight on a 12x12 frame with stroller-handle back posts and 5 inch poly casters (armrests, footrest, and rear wheels off). Quick-release axles are standard. Centre of gravity and rear anti-tips are written on the order. Transit (ANSI/RESNA WC-19) is a standard path on the current form.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a child or smaller person who fits a 10 to 16 inch seat, is within Ki's 165 lb rating, and needs a folding Category 3 frame that can take the seating system the therapist writes. Caregivers usually call us when an adult 16 to 22 inch Helio or Catalyst is too wide, or when they need a short hanger (Ki prints a 90 degree hanger down to 3 3/4 inches) and room to grow width and depth on the same frame.
If the person needs an adult Ki folding Category 3, see the Ki Mobility Catalyst 5VX. If they need an adult Motion Composites folding Category 3, see the Helio A7.
- Pediatric folding Category 3, prescription-built
- Seat 10 to 16 inches wide, 12 to 18 inches deep, 165 lb rating
- Manual self-propel or caregiver-push. No joystick, no power base
Design and build
The Spark is a folding manual frame with a latch that closes the chair into a small package. A frame extender keeps the side frame short and adds up to 4 inches of depth when the child grows. Ki prints growth of at least 2 inches of seat width and 3 inches of seat depth on the current order form. The back contour lets the seat tuck under the back by an extra 2 inches, with 32 degrees of built-in angle and 4 inches of depth change in 1 inch steps.
Front ends are swing-away hangers (60, 70, 80, or 90 degree) or a 70 or 80 degree fixed frame. Flip-up arms adjust in angle, height, and length so a seating system can land cleanly. Rear wheels sit on a universal axle plate. Camber is 0, 2, or 4 degrees. Colour is chosen on the order, including optional colour-accent forks and axle plates.
- Folding pediatric frame with a latch fold
- Depth extender and back that accepts a seating system
- Quick-release axles standard
- Centre-of-gravity axle positions on the order
- Optional rear anti-tips and WC-19 transit
Ki Mobility Spark specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU SPARK. Use the current Ki Mobility Spark card and the 15 June 2026 order form. The Spark is a manual folding frame. It has no joystick and no electromagnetic power brake.
Seat 10 to 16 inches wide by 12 to 18 inches deep. Front seat height 13 to 21 inches. Rear seat height 11 to 18.5 inches. Standard weight 19 lb. Transport weight 17.5 lb on the 12x12 stripped definition above. Camber 0, 2, or 4 degrees. User weight 165 lb. Transit approved: yes. Tubing 1 inch top and bottom.
Warranty for the original purchaser in North America: lifetime on the frame and quick-release axles against defects in materials and workmanship; 1 year on other Ki-made parts; expected frame life 5 years. Wear items (upholstery, tires, armrest pads, tubes, armrests, push-handle grips) are outside that term.
Seat width and seat depth
Seat width and seat depth are written on the Spark order form with Westin and the ADP authorizer. They are prescription choices for a growing child, not a same-day boxed size.
- Seat Width: 10 to 16 inches in 1 inch steps
- Seat Depth: 12 to 18 inches in 1 inch steps
Hanger style, armrests, rear-seat height, camber, centre of gravity, anti-tips, transit, colour, and the seating system the therapist writes are also set on that order. Do not buy this chair before ADP approval if you need the program to pay its share.
ADP funding for a Category 3 wheelchair in Ontario
This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Service and warranty
When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace. ADP does not pay for repairs.
Ki Mobility manufacturer warranty
For the original purchaser in North America: lifetime on the frame and quick-release axles, 1 year on other Ki-made parts, expected frame life 5 years. Wear items are not covered. Claims go through an authorized supplier. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
What does Category 3 mean on this chair?
Ontario dealers and authorizers treat Category 3 as a lightweight, centre-of-gravity-adjustable wheelchair with quick-release axles, anti-tippers, removable armrests, and specified footrests. The Spark is a folding pediatric chair with those features. It is not a rigid Category 4 and not a power chair.
Who may qualify for ADP funding?
Ontario residents with a valid health card whose disability needs a mobility device for 6 months or longer, after an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist. A child on ACSD can be covered at 100% of the approved price when the rest of the rules are met. We cannot promise that a specific child will be approved. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before any order is placed.
How does the 75 / 25 split work?
For an eligible client, the ADP-registered vendor bills ADP 75% of the approved price for the device. The family pays the remaining 25%, plus extras ADP does not cover. Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD can take that client share to 100% of the approved price.
What is the assessment process?
An ADP-registered OT or PT examines the child, confirms the need, and helps complete the mobility-devices application. Westin finishes the Spark order form with that authorizer, including the seating system the therapist writes. A chair bought before approval is not reimbursed.
How long does ADP take?
Ontario publishes a target of reviewing the application within 8 weeks of receiving it. Build time starts after the configuration is approved. Ask us for a current production estimate once the order form is locked.
Can we try a Spark before we submit?
Ask us what pediatric folding frame is on the Brampton or Toronto floor this week. A floor chair is not the finished prescription and may not be a Spark. The seating system is chosen with the therapist, not from a stock cushion.
How should the seat width be chosen?
The authorizer measures the child and writes 10 to 16 inches of width and 12 to 18 inches of depth. Ki prints room to grow at least 2 inches of width and 3 inches of depth on the same frame. Do not guess from clothing size.
Is the Spark a power wheelchair?
No. It is a manual folding pediatric wheelchair. The child or a caregiver moves it. There is no joystick and no electromagnetic power brake. Older leftover text that said otherwise was wrong.
Who pushes the Spark?
The child, using the handrims on the large rear wheels, or a caregiver from the back or from stroller-handle back posts when those are on the order. Engage both wheel locks before a transfer.
Will it fold into a car?
Yes. Ki designed a latch fold and lists a 17.5 lb transport weight on the stripped 12x12 definition. The seating system, wheels, and hangers add weight back on. It is a wheelchair, not a car seat, unless the order includes the transit option and the vehicle is set up for it.
What is the warranty?
Lifetime on the frame and quick-release axles, one year on other Ki-made parts, original purchaser in North America. Wear items are outside that term. Westin processes the claim.
What happens if ADP declines the application?
Ontario sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. We can look at the letter with the family or point you to other routes on the funding page.
